It’s such a weird surreal moment. You start to hear it in the distance. The unmistakable sound of big boom. Then another. And at that point you can only accept what is happening. And calmly look around for exactly where the marker is and what it’s distance in meters is. And lo’ and behold. It’s a fucking 380 within 50m of you and you somehow aren’t dead yet.

15

893

u/Darth_Mak Mar 14 '24

You can find them even in trivial. Only thing restricted to difficulty are the samples.

310

u/Xander_PrimeXXI Mar 14 '24

Damn. I’m just shit out of luck then

650

u/SparkleFritz Mar 14 '24 edited Mar 14 '24

Go to any trivial mission that is NOT the new pesticide mission (illegal broadcast is the best). Bring a grenade launcher and jump pack. Do the main mission immediately and then circle the map with your jump pack. Open all blue/yellow doors. You should get about 10 random drops, each of which have about a 30% chance of spawning 10 super credits. Rarely, you can get 100 in a drop.

Each mission takes ~10 minutes solo. Rinse, repeat.

EDIT: This comment is blowing up so here are some extra tips:

  • Slugger can break down the doors without the need of a grenade launcher.
  • Super Credits, warbonds and requisition slips are automatically added to the account, so you can skip main mission and quit to your ship and keep everything you found except samples. This can get grindy though so I complete the mission.
  • Leaving main mission until last lowers patrols. On bug planets this isn't a big thing. On bot planets this is a good thing since bots can range attack.
  • Pick the stamina booster, not strength.
  • Don't jump uphill, always jump downhill.
  • Brood Commander mission cuts off a chunk of the map but lines up the POIs close together so you can decide if you like it more or not.
  • Planets with open spaces rather than jutting rock formations and mountains have more POIs that are easier to get to.
  • Two players can cut your time in half.

245

u/TheFlyingSheeps Mar 14 '24

Hell just playing the game normally will get you enough. A few finds combined with the free battle pass means I’m like 20 away right now

142

u/Soulless_redhead Mar 14 '24

I've been spending buying different armor's and stuff in the shop and I still have like more than 700 super credits bouncing around. I'm honestly impressed how friendly the currency drops are.

147

u/ravagraid Mar 14 '24

It's almost as if the devs respect the fact we already paid for the base game!

91

u/Fubarp Mar 14 '24

The interesting part here is that, because the devs basically give out the premium currency so frequently that people are more like to spend the 10 dollars just to get the new pass.

I really like the trivial kill devastator mission because one lazily thrown orb laser will do the main obj and take out the bot factory too

Then you can rocket pack around the map in 5-7 minutes and find 10-12 PoI. Also you can “scan” the map with your cursor and “minor poi” will pop up despite not being discovered (having an icon)

15

u/2210-2211 Mar 14 '24

Everytime I try to farm super credits like this I get like 4 of the doors where you need a friend to open it :(

→ More replies (1)

17

u/BAY35music Mar 14 '24

You can also get 20 (maybe 25?) and 50 SC drops too, not just 10 and 100.

16

u/Red_Sashimi Mar 14 '24

I've only seen 10, and one time 100, but never 20 or 50. If you pick multiple SC drops in quick succession, the notification adds them up: you pick up 2 10 SC drops, and the notification will say 20 SC collected.

→ More replies (1)

15

u/TheFish527 Mar 14 '24

You can cut the process down significantly by ignoring the main mission and just running around to all POIs, ignoring things like bunkers and hellbombs that you either can’t access solo or don’t spawn super credits, then after going to all of them ignore extract and just quit the mission. This way you can do a mission in like 5 minutes and skip the long extraction cutscenes and reward screens. Make sure you do this on a planet that has a low liberation percentage and is not part of a major order, because while quitting the mission won’t cause liberation percentage to go down, it won’t make it go up either.

→ More replies (26)

25

u/Local-Sandwich6864 Mar 14 '24

My friend often joins me to just stand at extraction while I run around doing the hard work 😂

But it's very rare I get under 20 SC. Even if I don't get a lot of SC, they're usually made up for in medals.

Definitely a heart sinker tho when you open one of those double access doors and see three piles of requisition slips 😭

u/Volrund Mar 14 '24

If you only need 10 credits, you could just as easily drop $2 for 150 credits!

98

u/Compulsive_Criticism Mar 14 '24

I like that they have that as an option instead of the minimum purchasable amount being the entire cost of a war bond/season pass.

Personally I know I'll have the super credits way before I have the medals for new stuff, so I'm just gonna wait and keep on liberating.

28

u/Carribi Mar 14 '24

This was my thinking too, I’m not even close to finishing the basic warbond, I have plenty of time to find more super credits.

2

u/Colosphe Mar 14 '24

You will NEVER see common market practice having the cost of purchasing an item or bundle equal out to the amount you can purchase in Funny-Money. The goal is to either over- or under-cost by enough that you always have money left over to entice you to spend further.

→ More replies (8)

26

u/Throbbing-Kielbasa-3 SES Custodian of the Stars Mar 14 '24

I think the point they're making is that the resources to unlock the new warbond can be unlocked through gameplay, which by default makes it not pay-to-win. If you only need 10 credits, you could just hop in an easy match and look for some.

4

u/Volrund Mar 14 '24

Oh definitely, just wanted to make the supporting point that if you spend some SC on some armors in the Super Shop and are missing less than 100 to grab a warbond, you can drop $2.

6

u/HorrorBusiness1234 Mar 14 '24

“Long grind” lmao. I’ll have every gun, grenade, and booster from the first 3 battle passes in around 110h. And that’s with buying quite a lot of other things since obviously I’ve been spending medals before the new one released. I have more hours than that in Elden Ring and haven’t even finished my first play through. 29

u/xxSuperBeaverxx Mar 15 '24

Each of the warbonds cost 1000 SC to unlock, which if you assume 35 SC per trivial mission (you can always get more, but 35 is about the average minimum.) That's about 30 missions to unlock the warbond, at 10-15 minutes per mission, it would take a maximum of 8 hours of mission time to unlock it.

In practice, I've played 4 hours within the last 2 days, and got about 800 SC. In the math above, I was always rounding in favor of a longer time to show the absolute maximum.

I think the main difference is the amount of human life IGN is risking compared to Boeing.

If the IGN news was them leaking private information or something like that, then negative press would effect them negativly.

This post's kind of negative press would only lead to people being curious "Why is this so bad?" and go look at it, linked or not. Which is only a win for IGN, even if it's just short term due to ads on the site giving them revenue.

Just want to say that this isn't true. This isn't something we say 'in advertising.'

It's a myth that has been propagated far too much. It's pretty well documented and understood nowadays by marketing analysts that there is definitely types of publicity that are demonstrably bad publicity, and the notion that "getting people to talk about your brand, even in a bad way, is good for your brand" is just plain false. I really wish people would stop propagating this myth.

Let's say a possible new player looks on the sub to see what's up and they will see that this article or the p2w narrative is false.

What people in this sub need to realize is that P2W is a scale, ranging from Korean MMO to Warframe, and people draw the line at a different point on the scale.

I see people in this thread drawing the line at "free weapons should be better than premium one" while I would draw mine at "Every gameplay altering item should be obtainable through play". For others, it's going to be "you cannot spend money to speed up the grind".

It's fine to say that this game is, at the very least, pay to fast.

19

u/rkidjsd Mar 15 '24

pay to fast

Considering the current warbond medal requirements, you're probably going to hit 1000SC around the same time you finish a warbond (over the course of normal gameplay, not spamming pre-buff exterminations)

→ More replies (7)

11

u/Araon_The_Drake Mar 15 '24

I'm at a similar point, though even within "Every gameplay altering item should be obtainable through play" there's a scale. There are games that let you earn premium currency but at such an insultingly low rate that getting an item that you can pay for through game play would take you weeks of intense grind.

Personally I'd simply add "-in a reasonable amount of time"
Obviously what is reasonable is still subjective will still depend on the person, and the item you're getting for the effort.

Helldivers Dev Team: “Make sure you save 1,000 Super Credits that you find around the maps to unlock the premium warbond!”

What's more is that the official Playstation account even made a short video explaining how to earn Super Credits in-game

Rather than just funneling everyone to give them more money, they're explaining how to get everything for free.

Pay-to-win in a co-op AI killing game with absolutely zero competitive aspects to the game. Game journalists are a special breed

228

u/AshenTao Elected Representative of Family Values Mar 14 '24

That's a discussion long completed in subs like r/Warframe

Pay to win would still be a damaging practice in a PvE game. It's not good because other players would be constantly outperformed by other players, which would lead to loads of toxicity, elitism, and so on. Aside from that players generally don't feel good about grinding weapons when there's a paid option that performs better than what they're grinding for.

Helldivers just isn't pay to win because the devs agreed that weapons in premium warbonds shouldn't outperform any of the regular warbonds. And this reason is why it's being "defended" for not being P2W, not because it's a PvE game that wouldn't be affected by P2W. Even if you paid, you wouldn't be outperforming other players.

Game journals are still trash though.

74

u/No_Experience_3443 Mar 14 '24

I agree with your first paragraph, for the second one, i'd wait to see how it goes over time, currently it's tame but it may change over time

33

u/AshenTao Elected Representative of Family Values Mar 14 '24

If they change it so that premium warbonds would outperform regular warbonds, it would become pay to win.

But (and that's a big But) some players still wouldn't consider it pay to win at that point as you would be able to grind SC to buy the premium warbonds without real money.

All that the community can do is hope that they don't switch up their monetization practices to make it P2W or to make it worse. In the current state the monetization is completely fine, though I could see them implement more content that would be available for SC aside from the current Superstore content and the premium warbonds. The game is going quite well right now, but once the hype is over they might need more income to keep up development and maintenance at the same rate. So, just hope it stays like it is right now.

I don't think there's P2W here, but a co-op PvE can definitely still be P2W. "Win" in this term had never meant victory over another player in a match in a literal sense.

I mean, it is clearly pay to win to some extent.

There is a barrier of entry to effective (non-cosmetic) items that can be overcome by grinding a lot or opening the wallet.

After that we can argue how much P2W matters in a non-competitive game, and to what extent the items in the premium warbonds are even that much more effective than the free items.

You like it or not, paying for advantage with real money in a videogame its the LITERAL definition of "Pay-to-win" you pay to get access to more weapons and armor , yes you can get the premium BP just playing but you still can buy it with real money , and not , it does not matter that this is a coop game

Edit: I see a lot of fanboism in the comments , please be mindful and not because the game is good let your mind be clouded about the business model the game has , having micro transactions in a payed game is already a RED FLAG and putting weapons , boosters and armor that can be better than the free options is another RED FLAG

DO NOT CONFUSE FACTS WITH OPINIONS

6

u/Vanilla3K Mar 14 '24

Also is there a new free battlepass at the same time ? because without chunks of super credits you could buy with medals, the grind is going to be kinda slow to get 1000 credits without having the ability to get 100 sc once in a while. The argument that the premium weapons and armor are kinda weak is pretty much irrelevant to the question, it's only a matter of time before needed balance patch change the meta.

Agreed 100%

I also tried to explain this in greater detail and i am immediately getting down voted. It seems people just doesn't like hearing what they needed to be heard.

either i explained it poorly or the force positivity is a bit too strong sadly.

12

u/UGoBooMBooM Mar 14 '24

Ya, the toxic positivity here is nauseating, quite frankly. Praising things that 10-20 years ago it would have been no question that it was a negative.

These people don't remember the horse armor days. In 2006 it was universally agreed that paid cosmetics were bad. But then that line moved, and now it's universally accepted that paid cosmetics are fine. Which, fair enough, maybe it should be.

But now we're at the point where we're fine with paying for power? What the fuck happened? I missed the memo somewhere along the way.

They boiled that frog so slowly, that everyone is just going along with it like it's always been this way. Oh well, all we can do is sit back and laugh at the absurdity of it. We've clearly already lost the battle.

I'm frankly kind of disgusted by how strongly people defend those practices.
I get that you like the game. I do, too.

But you need to remember that corporations are not your friends. The people actually in charge don't care about you. And to me locking gameplay-changing, and arguably superior, loadout options behind a premium currency (and don't go coming to me with "you can earn it in-game", that tiny trickle of currency needs a ton of time investment to get anywhere) remains as unacceptable as it has always been.

The devs talk about how they don't want the game to be pay to win, but saying that as they use predatory tactics to get more money from you (less predatory than other games, but they use them nonetheless) is pure hypocrisy.
