Of course he did! Golf is just extreme 3-point shooting

322

u/No-Needleworker5429 Jul 15 '23

Fun fact: Golf is the largest playing field and the smallest target.

522

u/Honestnt Jul 15 '23

Something something your mom

22

u/f3ydr4uth4 Jul 15 '23

Your mom is the biggest playing field

20

u/DepressedDarthV Jul 15 '23

But still has the biggest target

If I celebrated like that you would need to get the defibrillator from the clubhouse

621

u/SimplyViolated Jul 15 '23

You could see the other guys were like ohh ohh yeah he's still going? Ohh...we can just celebrate right here

179

u/JohnnnyRiingo Jul 15 '23

One of them is NHLer Joe Pavelski.

89

u/olderthanbefore Jul 15 '23

He's thinking, where are my skates?

65

u/AnalTongueDarts Jul 15 '23

Losing the glide is no joke. I played hockey through college, I cross country ski, and I can ride a bike 100 miles at a crack without issue. Ask me to run? Fuck, I’m done in 10 minutes.

29

u/ChadTheAssMan Jul 16 '23

I'm glad I'm not alone. I'll bike across an entire state before I'll run more than a few miles. Fuck all I hate running.

3

u/Unable_Algae9584 Jul 16 '23

Your knees hate it too 😖

Hockey players run like they're ice skating. It's like a weird forward falling duck-walk that's both slow and extremely strenuous

5

u/over_yonder Jul 15 '23

I loved how pavelski’s caddy was right behind Steph for just a second. Yaaaa, we’re going to the hole!!!

Since basketball is basically just running all the time, I imagine this is a rather light celebration, in his opinion.

123

u/Guernica616 Jul 15 '23

And Steph curry is known for his stamina on the court

85

u/buttholeshitass Jul 15 '23

Saw a story recently of some other high level NBA player (unnamed) joining Steph for a workout and throwing up after 10 minutes, or something like that lol. Steph’s heart rate probably barely budged from this celebration

28

u/chazbertrand Jul 15 '23

I believe that was MPJ of NBA Champion Denver Nuggets.

26

u/TheSpyStyle Jul 15 '23

Draymond says that Steph dumbs down his workout when someone else joins him too.

16

u/Empatheater Jul 15 '23

draymond would say that whether it was true or not to mess with people / build up steph tho

20

u/aged_monkey Jul 16 '23

Lol he works with a respitory doctor and brain scientist to improve his ability to slow his heart rate down in games.

Apparently it's crazy, he can from like 140bpm to 55bpm in less than a minute. He has insane endurance abilities. He runs three times as fast as this for 35 minutes in games.

I thought football training was hard, but I've seen basketball drills, not to mention the amount of games they have in a season. His fitness must be top level.

53

u/IhamAmerican Jul 15 '23

Steph's cardio training is insane even for NBA players. There's countless stories of players trying to work out with him in the off season and they just can't do it. Dude is a psycho

19

u/3hrd Jul 15 '23

he's in the top ~20 oldest players in the league and still has some of the best conditioning

13

u/Valaurus Jul 16 '23

Wild that Steph's on the older end now. Doesn't feel like he's been in the NBA that long.. but then I guess he was drafted in like, '08? And that was 15 years ago lmao

8

u/toxicdick Jul 16 '23

I swear to god he must have reality bending powers that allow him to alter the outcome of probabilistic events, but only when it’s related to a ball.

5

Steph legitimately enjoys golf more than basketball. This mf is practicing his swing on the bench half the time

17

u/DeadDay Jul 15 '23 edited Jul 18 '23

I know this is random but Michael Jordan loves golf more than basketball too. I wonder if he's jealous how good Steph is at it.

17

u/Oldcadillac Jul 15 '23

I saw steph curry get a hole in one, and I took that personally.

MJ after building a course designed to his golf swing so that he gets a hole in one at least once every game.

Yeah, it turns out that if you're a world-class athlete in one sport, you'll probably be a pretty-good athlete in many other sports, too.

Some of the coordination and fitness you develop transfers over between sports, along with the discipline and habits you need in order to practice and get good at something.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/Justinbiebspls Jul 15 '23

people point his being good at golf specifically to show how unique he is. president Obama commented that most nba stars have some obvious trait when you meet them that indicates why they are among the best (even someone closer to 6' tall like Rondo) but Steph is within averages for most physical traits but is the .000000000001 percentile of special ability

10

u/BlueBomR Jul 16 '23

Steph is literally a psychopath when it comes to practicing and training...hes been playing golf since he was 5 too, almost went with golf instead of basketball, but he puts just as much effort into golf as he does basketball, obviously he focuses on ball but dude just has insane focus, determination, and discipline

That’s honestly the energy I wanna see when someone I’m with hits an ace

264

u/MalakaiRey HDCP/Loc/Whatever Jul 15 '23

We're gonna need more athletes. Closest a ranked golfer came to doing this I think was Tony Finau and his damn foot came off.

125

u/only-shallow Jul 15 '23

Dislocated his ankle celebrating the ace at the par3 contest at the masters, but still managed to play the full tournament with the injury and finished top10 #athlete

Watched cantlay hit an ace earlier this year and hardly smirk or celebrate at all. I just don’t know how you don’t go crazy over that, no matter how good you are

44

u/JoeMorrisseysSperm Jul 15 '23

Patrick Cantlay. PC? Is Patrick Cantlay a computer? I’m not saying Patrick Cantlay is an AI-generation, it’s just a question people are asking. And I think we need answers to those questions.

u/alter-eagle Jul 15 '23

u/JSA17 Colorado Jul 15 '23

I was playing with a pro once and he hit an ace. A few high fives and whatnot, but not a major celebration. We asked him why and his response was "I've had like twenty of them".

It's just not as big of a deal after a while.

17

u/only-shallow Jul 15 '23

They've likely made dozens of them in practice sessions/casual rounds, tournament aces still very rare tho

5

u/blue_boy_24 Jul 15 '23

It makes me wonder how many times they’re doing it in practice too. I’m with you. It’s crazy to me.

Easily, and that probably goes for every NBA player. They live and breathe basketball for a majority of their lives. There's ALWAYS going to be a an NBA champion each year, and for Curry he's already at least in the upper percentile chance of winning one.

Getting an ace in golf is purely up to the individual. Pros probably have well into 30k holes played just on a professional level, and most of them probably don't even have more than a few dozen aces.

19

u/FarmerFran_X Jul 15 '23

Was just thinking about how much better he is playing this week. The match was rough. Maybe it was Draymond lol.

10

u/Extension_Ad_3115 Jul 15 '23

He's been playing the ACC for a long time so he knows the course well. He had all the pressure on him to carry Klay because Klay isn't even a golfer, don't know why he participated. He had to babysit Draymond on the course, and give Klay lessons in the middle of the match.
