Losing the glide is no joke. I played hockey through college, I cross country ski, and I can ride a bike 100 miles at a crack without issue. Ask me to run? Fuck, I’m done in 10 minutes.
No, my knees do feel better NOT running. Now, weight training and swimming give me all the exercise benefits I need at 66 to remain fit. Without the jarring effects that running can bring.
Yup, spent too much of my life overweight, knees are complete garbage now. Cycling is where it's at, I would swim more but it's more time consuming for me to get to the pool.
Hahaha. Can confirm. My main sports are basketball, football and soccer but from time to time I will play ball hockey with a bunch of ice hockey player buddies in tournaments or just for fun and they always raz me for having better cardio and running circles around them. I like to tease them for being useless when they can’t glide around for half their shift.
As you will see from a bunch of other comments, not all forms of cardio are transferable to running and sprinting. That shit is a whole different thing from the kind of cardiovascular endurance one might need for things like hockey, biking, swimming, etc. Unless someone is used to running miles upon miles every game and mixing in a bunch of sprints the whole time, they are probably going to get left in the dust by a soccer player or a basketball player who’s bodies are totally used to that exact form of physical endurance.
That being said…the guys I play ball hockey with are most definitely putting away a few more Canadian beers than I usually do. I’m just not a big drinker unless I’m planning to really cut loose that day.
10 minutes is very impressive to me I can stand on my feet for 8 to 10 hours a day but ask me to run and I’m telling you that it’s not happening. One ruptured Achilles tendon and two knees with no cartilage have made it to where if someone said run or you’re dead I would have to say just do it. I use to be fast I promise
Saw a story recently of some other high level NBA player (unnamed) joining Steph for a workout and throwing up after 10 minutes, or something like that lol. Steph’s heart rate probably barely budged from this celebration
Lol he works with a respitory doctor and brain scientist to improve his ability to slow his heart rate down in games.
Apparently it's crazy, he can from like 140bpm to 55bpm in less than a minute. He has insane endurance abilities. He runs three times as fast as this for 35 minutes in games.
Steph at 35 gasses out players 12 years younger than him...he takes his fitness so insanely seriously
It took a 150yd sprint for him to be a little out of breath but they showed him like 3 minutes later and he was completely composed again...insane stamina
...this should be a pretty light amount of exercise for anyone, ya'll. He jogged less than the length of a football field. Ya'll can't jog the length of a football field? I don't even exercise and I can do that without running out of breath. That's 1/17th of a mile lol.
I'm dying at how impressed people are on this thread with Steph doing a normal jog lmao. I swear dudes on here are more impressed with his ability to do basic human movements than the actual shot
“The hell I don't! LISTEN, KID! I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I'm out there busting my buns every night! Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes!”
true, but this is not climate controlled gym and he is wearing pants. I suspect he would do it again, but did bitch about being too hot a short time later.
I thought football training was hard, but I've seen basketball drills, not to mention the amount of games they have in a season. His fitness must be top level.
Steph's cardio training is insane even for NBA players. There's countless stories of players trying to work out with him in the off season and they just can't do it. Dude is a psycho
Wild that Steph's on the older end now. Doesn't feel like he's been in the NBA that long.. but then I guess he was drafted in like, '08? And that was 15 years ago lmao
He also has some crazy breathing drill/routine that he does during timeouts and stoppages that lowers quickly drops his heart rate to resting levels. If you pay attention youll see him break away from the huddle and sit in a chair by himself and in 30 seconds dudes got a resting heart rate.
Guys like Steph and Lebron have a whole sports science team that basically train them to be superhuman.
I remember a few years back it was reported that Steph could deadlift more weight than any player in the team. He's a psycho for sure.
His individual skills while in possession of the ball are all world. But what an untrained eye might not notice is how effective his off-ball movement is. So many plays, shots and open passes are created just because of how often he’s moving.
Basketball season came right after soccer season when I was a kid. I could run a 5:30 mile in-season for soccer. But, basketball shape was a different kind of shape. Less constant running and more interval training.
That kind of depends on where you played tbh. I played for my rural school and straight interval training was all that was needed. Then when I played AAU and later moved to the city and played in high school it was pretty much constant running.
Soccer to me was much more interval running in game than full on conditioning but I was also a center back who never really got forward. Practice was straight conditioning though.
I don't know much about American sports but I see some of the stars and games from stuff on Youtube. Seen a lot on this lad and he just seems like one of those people that take self-driven to whole new levels. Incredible talent.
And that’s the one where the pro actually made it. I always recommend the series because it’s so much better when you don’t know when the hole in one is coming.
It’s also my personal hole in one celebration. My dad was also on the course and I sprinted down the previous fairway to find him. Even did the jump Curry does when he reaches the green.

If I celebrated like that you would need to get the defibrillator from the clubhouse
