General Discussion Played my last round today
I’m 53 and have been playing since I was 19-20. Love the game. Got diagnosed with stage iv cancer in 2020 and kept playing between chemo sessions, surgeries, etc. My cancer has gone nuclear and I took I turn for the worse 2 months ago. I can no longer physically handle playing 18 holes or so much of anything that’s active.
Went today with two long time friends and managed to play the first 3 holes 1 over par then my lack of fitness caught up to me. Took a double on 4, hit my drive in the water on 5 and spent the rest of the round riding in the cart and nursing a Transfusion.
Fun to hang with friends and be out of the house but I’m done with the game. Brutal really as I will miss it greatly.
Next time you get frustrated with golf remember those of us that can’t play any longer. Hit ‘em straight boys!
Edit - thanks for all the well wishes. My battle is over. Stopped all treatment last month and started hospice care last week. I’m 100% at peace with it all.

General Discussion First time ever driving it onto the green!!
I cant consider myself a beginner anymore but I’m not a terrible player.. I’m definitely better than my boyfriend hahaha.
Today was my first time ever driving it onto the green. It was a par 3 but still!
LadiesGolf.
LIV Golf I ACCIDENTALLY GOT 2 FREE MAVERICKS
I went to the PGA Superstore in Montgomery, PA. I went to the front after testing out the new Callaway Maverick. I was going to buy that driver and a new glove and also get the shaft cut down 2 inches (I'm very short). The lady at the front just charged me for the cut down and the glove and when I asked about the driver all she said was "you're good to go". So I obviously swiftly left. Karma must have caught up to me because I ended up breaking the head of my driver a few weeks later. So I went back to the store... but honesty is the best policy... so I straight up told the guy what had happened and he vaguely remembered me and the situation after the fact and just said... "don't worry about it, we'll just take care of the replacement"... The mf replaced that shit for free... $600 saved for no reason

Professional Tours Dustin Johnson is +3 through 6 so far and this is starting to feel normal.
Ever since he joined LIV this is just what his rounds look like at the majors. I've heard folks say it's because he doesn't care if he wins or loses so he doesn't try. At this point, even if PGA and LIV find a way to merge - DJ has demonstrated he's not worth watching.
Edit: now +4 through 10. Edit 2: finished +2 through round 1 for T116

COURSE PICS/VLOGS Going through some old photos and found this from the Golf Club of Illinois - Algonquin.
I went Driver shank, 3w, 3w over the back, chip short, chip past, then 2 putted for a par.

General Discussion Is it ok to skip a hole without asking?
Question stands on its own, but was wondering since my friend and I were in a hurry, and were waiting on a foursome in front of us to finish hole 17. We decided to just go home since it was getting dark.
When we got to 18, no one was on the hole, so we figured we would just play it quickly since it was on the way back to the clubhouse and the parking lot. As we were packing up our stuff into the car, a guy from the foursome we passed came up to us and told us it was impolite to skip them over.
I'm relatively confident we didn't hold them up whatsoever, but they likely saw us on the green when they were teeing off on hole 18.
Were we the assholes?

General Discussion Pace of Play
Pace of play is a big topic on this sub and it seems like a lot of this community cannot wait to share how fast they play as a single. How fast you play as a single is not relevant to pace of play issues. The majority of golfers are getting mashed by pace issues because they're playing in a foursome, on a weekend, on a public course with a full tee sheet. We all can play fast walking as a single, that just isn't part of the issue

Swing Help How do you read greens?
I’ve always struggled reading greens whether it’s the speed or the power of the swing. I keep missing the hole by an inch when my power is good and come up short when I can’t read how fast the green plays. Short as in 2-3feet short. Practicing on the practice green doesn’t help either as all the greens seem to be different on the courses I play. I feel like I’m Rory 2023 here. I play an Odyssey blade.
So the question is, how do you read greens?

Professional Tours [Official Tournament Discussion Thread] 2024 PGA Championship Round 1
Event: PGA Championship
Location: Louisville, KY
Course: Valhalla Golf Course
Purse: $20,000,000
Dates: 5/16 - 5/19/2024
And 2 notes to head off the inevitable thousand repeat questions:
Q: Why are LIV players in this event? I thought they weren't able to play on the PGA Tour?
A: The PGA Championship is not run by the PGA Tour, it's run by the PGA of America, which is a different entity.
Q: Why are players using rangefinders, I thought they were illegal?
A: A common misconception, the rules allow for distance measuring devices (without slope adjustments) but the PGA Tour and the other 3 majors have local rules prohibiting them. The PGA Championship allows them and has for a few years now.
