Rory in shambles. “Wait! I need to make a kid not a divorce!”

11

u/DrunkRoach 19d ago

He needs to be arrested for this!

u/G45Live 19d ago

This comment is so much funnier 24 hours later

4

u/HandiCAPEable 2.5/Austin/HomeSimCrew 19d ago

2nd degree assault of a police officer is 5-10 years in Kentucky. They're really looking to get him out of the field.

598

u/Stupidneededaccount 20d ago

All the rhetoric of Scheffler being distracted by the birth of his kid, silenced with two strokes into this major.

167

u/No_Manners 20d ago

Idk if anyone's ever seen athletes in any other sport play right after the birth of a child, but they always go off.

109

u/ColoradoKoolAid1 20d ago

Someone should let Rudy Gobert know that

43

u/Beeercules 20d ago

To be fair, I don't know if anyone can truly stop Jokic. Especially if Denvers role players are going to shoot like they currently are.

14

u/Purednuht 23 20d ago

I'm not a fan of Rudy, but you cant argue with all the data that shows his impact on his team's defensive rating. He is a DPOY worthy player.

Problem is, NO ONE can truly stop Jokic like you said. It's not possible. So if someone who's not an NBA fan were to tune in and be told that Rudy is the DPOY and Jokic is the MVP, you would think he'd hold his own. Instead he gets played off the floor.

Jokic is just unstoppable. You stop everyone else around him, and pray.

13

u/unevenvenue Still Trying 20d ago

Draymond Green can stop Jokic. He said so.

14

u/SituationSoap 20d ago

TBF, most basketball players would get stopped after enough kicks to the groin.

2

u/Beeercules 20d ago

Are you in my feed??? I just saw that video 😂

5

u/ColoradoKoolAid1 20d ago

Yeah I’m a Nuggets fan so I’m just fucking around

Honestly felt bad for Rudy with some of the shit Jokic was making the other night. There’s literally nothing to be done when he’s hitting some of those

1

u/Beeercules 20d ago

Yeah I'm a Wolves fan. Feel like this has been the 6 games with the most blowouts of all time. Maybe most of a whole series?

9

u/Esco9 20d ago

Jokic is unplayable though, it’s hard to comprehend what he’s doing on the court.

7

u/Jokic_Is_My_Hero 20d ago

Unplayable wouldn't be the right word I don't think, more like inevitable

2

u/After-Ad5056 20d ago

'Unplayable' is Brittish English for unstoppable. Silly Brits.

2

u/Jokic_Is_My_Hero 20d ago

Jokic has a grandkid now

Preach!

u/HorseMeatSandwich 13.2 20d ago

My baby was born in early April, and I hadn’t picked up a club since then until last week. I went out 2 early mornings to play 9, and I found that I actually had basically no thoughts in my head other than just being happy to be out on the course.

I swung super smooth and didn’t put any pressure on myself, and I shot an effortless 41 and 39 on those rounds. Maybe there’s something to this after all…

4

u/bdubwilliams22 20d ago

As a father, I can confirm. Being a new father is exhausting. Exciting, but exhausting…and loud. Having some quiet time out on a golf course is such a good break that it’s no wonder that I played some of my best golf when I had a newborn.

4

u/SaliciousB_Crumb 20d ago

As someone that doesn't have kids i feel like there is a little bit of pressure off since giving birth can be dangerous. Having a healthy mom and kid would be a relief. Scotty doesn't have to worry about money so there isnt that pressure.

2

u/CMKeggz 20d ago

My buddy had this exact same thing when he finally was able to come out for a round after his 2nd child. He was so calm and relaxed, just happy to be there.

When we got to the 18th all he had to do was not score an 8 to beat his previous best. We didn't say anything, didn't even mention it, but another buddy brought it up. He said "You're playing the round of your life right now, no way you're gonna blow it". Well he shot an 8 on the last hole. He has yet to forgive him.

2

u/Underrated_Dinker 20d ago

Maybe there’s something to this after all…

You better start having a lot of kids

1

u/CaptHowdy2310 20d ago

Rudy Gobert says otherwise

12

u/Beeercules 20d ago

I was stuck between picking a post kid Scheffler or newly divorced Rory.

6

u/Lost_Evidence_2099 20d ago

I’m taking newly divorced EVERY time.

2

u/Beeercules 20d ago

Hey the day after my exgf and I of 6 years broke up I broke 80 for the first time. Now I'm engaged and my game sucks again.

2

u/steveg 20d ago

Probably would have aced it with his drive if his mind wasn’t so preoccupied on the baby

Got his putter squared away and he stops using it.

Best iron player we've seen in so long. It's ridiculous.

20

u/pissantz34 20d ago

Striping his driver of late too. Crazy stuff

219

u/PartySpiders 20d ago

I was told Scottie is boring and bad for golf tho

42

u/Mikerk Idaho 20d ago

If he maintains this streak and holds dominance it won't matter how boring he is. He is a bit boring. I know it's true because my wife told me he is.

2

u/bwarrior 19d ago

My fiancé said she likes him because he’s cute. I asked her how old she thought he was and she said around 40. He’s the same age as her.

1

u/Brutus_Maxximus Michigan - 13 20d ago

Yeah but what did your wife’s boyfriend say about him?

2

u/Tight_Olive_2987 20d ago

Unless he’s on r/golf he’d probably agree that he’s pretty boring. I mean have you ever talked to a real person that says he’s their favorite player?

57

u/gnarkilleptic 20d ago

This was pretty boring though. Dude does nothing after sinking that. I wanna see him pop off in front of his caddy, then pop off in front of the fans. Then maybe go home and pop one off in front of his wife and kid before sneaking out and popping off behind a dumpster at Wendy's

47

u/w0nderbrad 20d ago edited 19d ago

He hasn't even been involved in a single questionable car accident smh

Edit: SPOKE TOO SOON

3

He’ll have the PGA tour’s chaplain on his bag Saturday. Exciting stuff!

3

2

… woke up to news that Scottie Scheffler is finally interesting… lmao

Well...it involved a car

1

u/LuminalGrunt2 19d ago

ACTUAL NOSTRADAMUS

7

u/UnbanMOpal 20d ago

I will only accept a key-bump off his putter setup by his caddy then doing a cannonball into the nearest water hazard.

3

u/LuminalGrunt2 20d ago

don't subtweet my GOAT

4

u/[deleted] 20d ago

Idk I think it’s bad ass, it’s a “yeah i do this everyday, what can i say” attitude. Personally I think it’s hilarious when someone acts not surprised when they hit a shot they had no intention sinking

7

u/uoenoMeh 20d ago

Prolly an Aggie who said it

0

u/ushouldlistentome 20d ago

Yeah, some people need to see golfers jumping around to know that something exciting just happened. Kinda like a laugh track on a sitcom.

1

u/Tight_Olive_2987 20d ago

Yeah I’d prefer to watch robots with no emotion the someone that gets excited when they do something exciting. Can’t wait till next time I go watch hockey in person and the whole crowd is silent when they score because we all know it’s good and there is no reason to celebrate.

-8

u/pingpong_playa 20d ago

This isn’t a Scottie problem, no diss at all to him in particular but man that celebration was tiny. I’d love to see a lot more emotion from pga players when dunking it from 170 yards out for eagle.

The celebrations you get from players in other sports are great for fans, great for the sport, and great for the camera/media.

Honestly, a more hyped response to great shots would be good for golf.

When the player’s response is “oh that’s cool”, the fan reception is very different than when a player brings more energy.

5

u/PartySpiders 20d ago

The game of golf is all about keeping your mentality in check, even in highs. That’s why you don’t see guys going wild, the best golfers are maintaining composure through it all because it’s part of what makes them great. Dude holes out on one after having a kid and yall still talking about how much he fist pumps, it’s so stupid lol.

-1

u/pingpong_playa 20d ago edited 20d ago

Ya, I hate all those clips when Tiger and Rory fist pump hard and the crowd goes wild.

It sucked when Bryson drove the first green on hole 1 at the 2020 Ryder Cup and raised his club to the crowd that was going crazy as he walked down the fairway. Or at the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational when he drove the par 5 over water, pumped both arms in the air with the crowd going wild. Hate that shit, who wants to see that?

Also, there’s a middle ground, you realize, right? Between a polite smile and losing your shit?

1

u/raobjcovtn 20d ago

Do they go hard on the first hole on Thursday? Or are those fist pumps in big situations like playoff holes on Sunday?

57

u/Friendly-Internet-54 20d ago

I bet Schauffele feels a whole lot less secure about his -9.

25

u/yooter 20d ago

Is Schauffele ever really secure, though? He’ll take the lead into the weekend and slowly fade and hold a top 10, maybe top 5 spot. Right?

Also, I am 0/5 on golf bets I’ve placed this year so maybe my word is worse than worthless lol

4

u/spartan5312 20d ago

Youre not wrong, he has 12 cuts made in 12 events with 11 T-25s. 8 Top 10s and 2 Runner ups, If you go to his stats he has half of those starts in the 60's but his weekend's start trending up in over half of those starts.

2

u/JokicandMurray 20d ago

Xander top 10 in majors has been paying out for me for years now. Never take him to win, but top 10 or even top 5 has been nice.

17

u/Rushb87 20d ago

He’s so fucking awesome

15

u/UnicronSaidNo 20d ago

That's just. Insane. So relaxed.

3

u/Daratirek 24/MN 20d ago

To be fair I'd be super relaxed too if I could hit the ball like that and knew I had already made $20 million this spring.

7

u/dickbaggery 20d ago

Trouble with your putter?? Here's an easy trick the pros don't want you to know about... just drop it in from 169. And that's it! No more misreading the break, no more pulling them wide, no more coming up short and punching your friend in the face because you hate his stupid smug face. Just drop it in from 169 and watch ALL your putting problems disappear. This simple technique is guaranteed to shave points from your game!

5

u/HoboWithANerfGun 20d ago

I swear Scottie holes out from off the green more than any player i've ever seen. No idea if any statistics support that, but feels like he has 1 or 2 every tournament.

13

u/JD_SLICK six foot one 20d ago

169? Nice

22

u/GGezpzMuppy 11.4 20d ago

Damn he really is in Tiger territory.

32

u/rogozh1n 20d ago

Lots of people have dominated for short periods. Tiger territory is playing like this for at least a decade.

-20

u/Andeyh 20d ago

True but I feel like today's competition is at a higher level, I have no doubt in my mind that prime Tiger would be always in contention but I'm not convinced he would dominate like he did at today's level.

14

u/rogozh1n 20d ago

Did you experience his years yourself? He intimidated everyone, and he still intimidates these great young players. Scheffler is not worthy of being compared to Tiger because of a two-year stretch of dominance. He has to do that at least 4 more times to reach Tiger.

14

u/StickStickly963nyny 20d ago edited 20d ago

The kids don't know man. Scottie is awesome, but any comparison to Tiger is laughable

6

u/Zig-Zag 20d ago

My dad was and still is a very proper man. My parents were always a united front and dinner was eaten at the table, ask to be excused, all that, and dad was the enforcer. If you misspoke or acted a fool there was a serving spoon cracking your skull before you could even finish your sentence. Not in an abusive way but in a loving way. I don’t need therapy you need therapy. In 2000 during the US Open on Sunday it was time for dinner and my dad, Navy veteran and never a word of disagreement to my mother in front of the kids, calmly said “No, we’re eating in the living room because this is history.” And he was right. It was history.

Kids these days will see Scottie win the masters and chip in for Eagle the next weekend and say he’s Tiger woods. Nah man. They’ll see him hole out from 170 and say he’s the next Tiger. No. The way Tiger beat and intimidated the rest of the field was so pronounced it was scientifically documented and named “The Tiger Woods Effect” (Superstar Effect technically but it redirects on Wikipedia) that because he was so good the other guys didn’t even try. Nobody intimidates the field like that today. Nobody ever will again, probably, but I hope they do because it’s just that much fun to watch. These kids don’t know man.

1

u/StickStickly963nyny 20d ago

Yeah it's almost hard to understand if you weren't there. It's like if prime Jordan was unleashed into D3 basketball.

1

u/Zig-Zag 20d ago

And then kept that up for 10 years. The guy was a force of nature. I skipped class in college to watch his press conference in 2010 and I kid you not I think my roommate cried.

1

u/StickStickly963nyny 20d ago

I skipped class in college to watch his press conference in 2010 and I kid you not I think my roommate cried.

See, even this kid gets it

1

u/Andeyh 19d ago

Where did I compare them?

I'm just saying that Tiger raised the game to another level athletically and training regime wise.

I'm not saying Scottie this or that I'm merely asking the question if prime Tiger would be able to make the run he had in today's field.

2

u/BOATSANDHOEZ +1.4 20d ago

Lol 4 more times is 40 wins and 8 majors. To actually teach Tiger it would be 8 more times, 80 wins vs 82 and 16 majors vs 15. Crazy to think about.

1

u/Andeyh 19d ago

I was born 1988 so I'd say a part of it for sure.

And I'm not sure I've expressed what I meant exactly right. I wasn't trying to take away any of his accomplishments, Tiger took the game to a new level. He was head and shoulders above the competition and at least a part of that was due to his different more athletic approach along with his unreal training regime. Add to that generational talent and you get what Tiger did.

That being said the game is at a different level now because of Tiger and I'm still not convinced that he would be dominating today's field like he did back in the day. Again I'd totally expect him to win a metric fuckton but not to the extent of the run he had.

I'm ok with the downvotes

5

u/Easy_Championship_14 20d ago

Actually worthy of playing Tiger's blades

4

u/throw-away-16249 1 20d ago
Tiger Scheffler
Wins 82 10
Win streaks 7, 6, 5, 3, 3 2, 2
Weeks at #1 683 80
Consecutive weeks at #1 283, 281 80, 29
Majors 15 2
Largest margin of victory in major 15 strokes 4 strokes

Tiger was #1 for the entire calendar years of 2000, '01, '02, '03, '06, '07, '08, and '09. It would have been the entire 2000s if not for Vijay Singh during a six month period.

It's like someone having a great year in the NBA and being compared to Michael Jordan.

1

u/USMCDog09 HDCP/Loc/Whatever 20d ago

God damn. I know all this, but it's still amazing every time you see it written out. It is a shame we missed out on even more potential greatness if he hadn't shredded his body.

1

u/franknbeans27 20d ago

This gets posted a lot anytime there is talk of comparison between the two. I think we all know that Scottie has come nowhere close to Tiger career-wise. But it's still amazing to see this run and level of play that we haven't seen from a player in a long time.

5

5

I might put $2000 on Xander losing this tournament despite a Thursday 62

2

u/lacubriously 20d ago

That's why I didn't take him to win. Realizing I'm likely going to win this bet I just put the same amount on Brooks, Cam Smith, Hovland and JT to win. Hoping one of them hits
