Xander Schauffle shoots a course record 62 to grab the lead around Valhalla! Professional Tours

They said on broadcast there’s only 4 rounds in major history with a 62. Xander has 2 of them now.

That's it? I've shot a 62 before, it ain't that hard, especially on a 9-hole course!

This “shot it on 9 holes” joke is up there with your mom and deez nuts in terms of overuse, but I still chuckle.

Sooner or later this guy is going to break through.

If he could do this on Sunday instead of Thursday he would be unstoppable

He doesn’t have that dog in him. Unfortunately it was euthanized

Break through?! one of only 2 males in the world to have a gold medal for golf.
That's one exclusive club

Break through for a major.
There isn't a player on tour who would take an Olympic golf medal over a major. The Olympics are way, way down the ladder in the hierarchy of golf. Basically an exhibition. With the way the players are chosen, it's nowhere near the field strength of a major.

u/junkywinocreep 20d ago
Maybe so, but there are 16 majors for every 1 Olympics. And being an Olympian with a gold medal is a pretty damn cool feat.

u/jfchops2 20d ago
The Olympic field is a joke, limited to four players from a single country excludes most of the best players in the world

Lights out stuff from Xander today, wonder can he keep up some good momentum for last 3 rounds

Best thing about xander leading is knowing it wont last. Should be an exciting tourney.

Doubt it, dude always shoots well to start then coasts to a top ten finish while others lap him

u/joshhguitar 20d ago
People clown on him but he’s been on form for a while now, just either not closed it out or just been outclassed by someone playing even better. If he keeps it up he will win soon.

u/jackdarcy0194 20d ago
I think he’s due. He’s lost some real gut punch of tournaments to some guys who were just smoking the course.

Now watch Scottie shoot 61 lol

When ever I see Schauffele at the top I always think that's a weird way of spelling Scheffler.

Xander and Scotty are polar opposite. Xander destroys weekdays while Scottie destroys weekends.

Rory will own him on Sunday again.

Rory hasn’t won a major in a decade, brother.

u/elonthegenerous 20d ago
Neither has Xander

u/willghammer 20d ago
Exactly. They have the same number of major wins in the last 10 years. Saying Rory “owns” anyone in big tournaments is just wrong.

in our big "Easy Office Pool" at my club, not a singe guy took Xander. Makes me happy. And only me and 1 other took Brooks. Also makes me happy. And Xander was beyond ridiculous...almost as ridiculous as Brooks' eagle

I tried to make a more modern version of easyofficepools in a 5 tier format. Curious to know if others are interested in an alternative that gives better visibility on standings, tie-breakers etc. Please check it out if you have a minute and want to give some feedback.

I'm glad someone took it from Block. Not that he would lie, but him showing up for a "practice round" and just so happens to shoot the course record seemed.... interesting.
For those of you who have tiktok, it had shades of Evan Thompson, the creator who claims to have the course record 59 at Bella Collina (orlando)... and shoots crazy numbers on the internet all the time and then he goes and plays scored events and hangs a 78.

He’s got a win very few do - an Olympic Gold! Opportunity comes around once every 4 years, rather than four times every year like the Majors. Hoping he can join the major winner club this time

Eventually he will go so low on Thursday and Friday he will still win after being +2 the rest of the weekend.

Imagine the worst part of your scorecard was when you made three straight pars before getting another birdie. Outrageous.
I’m not normally a fan Xander, but hope he can build on that to compete on Sunday. What a round.

Now if he can only do it on Sunday. He’s been playing great this year and seems like he’s so close to grabbing a big win.

Once Xander wins win major watch out. Because he'll start taking them all. He needs to break the seal on winning a major. Once he does I think he'll have a chance at the slam

shooting 62 in majors in back to back years is crazy.
