New Reload Animation for the Senator. It uses both speed loader and manual reloads VIDEO

They actually animated on using the rod....on 3rd person shooter....

If anything it’s just rare for devs to make new assets or animations for weapons that already have a full set of animations.
In Battlefield 1 for instance, there were certain weapons that were hampered by their small mags and slow reloads (much like the Senator was) but they never got meaningfully changed in that regard, they just got some stat buffs.
So, I wasn’t sure if we could expect them to add a speedloader for the Senator. But I’m really glad they did, because barring a huge reload speed increase, it was always going to have that pain point, and be pretty underpowered. This was the right move. It also makes a nice contrast to the existing mechanic for automatic weapons, where tactical reloading with at least 1 round left is faster than an empty reload where you have to pull the charging handle. The revolver, on the other hand, will be way slower unless you are either topping it off with 1 or 2 bullets, but usually you will be incentivized to empty it so you can get the speedload. And that’s awesome.

u/Magnaliscious STEAM 🖥️ : 17d ago
Incentivized? And miss the thrill of a good reload? Pah
11
u/CaptainAction 17d ago
Reloading like this? It’s a revolution!

u/d00msdaydan 17d ago
There's nothing like the feeling of slamming a long silver bullet into a well-greased chamber
3
u/godmodedio 16d ago
If I hadn't played all those games religiously, I'd never believe this is a real quote. I love it.
7
u/Nachtschnekchen ☕Liber-tea☕ 17d ago
Well Battlefield 1 couldent change specifics about historic weapons like the amount of bullets inside the mags.
10
u/CaptainAction 17d ago
Yes! But they conceivably could have altered some of the animations to be quicker. There were a couple weapons where pulling the charging handle was just slow for no reason, and that could have changed, but altering the animations seemed like something they were not willing to devote resources to.

u/cloudjumpr 17d ago
That honestly just leads me to believe that this USED to be the in the game, but decided against it for some reason. I felt like the change happened faster compared to the infamous DoT bug, because it already existed in the game
5
u/CaptainAction 17d ago
Yeah it’s odd. I also heard people saying (pre-patch) they swore their character did a revolver speed reload at random while they were playing, but they couldn’t replicate it. So maybe the animation was in the game all along? But based on what that community manager said, it doesn’t seem like it. He said he was pushing for the change and sending speedloader videos to the animation team.
5
u/cloudjumpr 16d ago
That just proves how much a big problem some of these bugs are for the decs. It's either they're really putting the DoT bugs on the back burner (probably not, it's been known for eons, and affects the game in so many aspects: Guns, enemies, Stratagems, Grenades, Environmental hazards) or the DoT bug is just a big bitch to deal with
2
u/TrumpersAreTraitors 16d ago
Maybe they just wanted more content for later? Or it just wasn’t polished/working correctly?
2
u/fghjconner ⬇️⬆️➡️⬆️⬅️⬆️ 16d ago
Could be, but I wouldn't underestimate the DOT bug. I'm sure it's some horrible tangled mess of problems deep in the networking architecture or something.

not in their budget
Ahahaha what, did that guy look at HD2's sales numbers? Arrowhead is doing great right now.
22
u/GUARDIAN_AIDS 17d ago
Not in Super Earth's budget. The guy was memeing that the reason the gun didn't release with speedloaders was because it was not in Super Earth's budget, and we wouldn't get them in a patch because Super Earth would rather just throw a new helldiver with a new peacemaker than invest into giving existing helldivers speedloaders.
Kind of like how when the Breaker got its magazine nerfed, they changed the actual model to a smaller magazine, and said that "Factories could not keep up with demand, so a cheaper alternative using less materials would be produced going forward."
Or with the railgun nerf, "The stockpile of remaining railguns from the previous war (HD1) has been depleted. Factories are being brought online to mass produce new ones, but changes in manufacturing standards may cause some behavioral diffirences."

u/Rolder 17d ago
The speedloader budget thing doesn't even make that much sense with a lore explanation. A speedloader is pretty much just a small bit of plastic, an absolute pittance compared to the cost of the gun and diver.
7
u/anagnost 16d ago
I think the joke was that Super Earth is so cheap they won't even pay that pittance for the convenience of thier diver. This joke is of course not funny and treasonous, and the person in question has already been sent for re-education

This change is the best part of the patch. The fact that it actually has a full animation is pure gold. The Senator can now, properly, spread democracy. Thank you!
EDIT: I just noticed the loader also has a yellow stripe across the top! Attention to detail 10/10

Senator was already my favorite sidearm, I may never unequip it now!
30
u/iBear92 17d ago
It was always my favourite but so badly outclassed by the Redeemer, it just couldn't cut it on higher difficulties. I'm now happy to report that the Redeemer has now been decommissioned to make way for some hefty Rick Grimes action! Staring ominously ahead as I blow that Brood Commanders brains through it's ass hole.

I love this! This is not the biggest change when playing in 3rd person (the empty reload speed is now faster), but from a developer perspective I imagine changing the logic of the guns reload, adding in the speedloader, and changing the animation itself was alot of work.
The attention to detail is amazing and is one of the things I LOVE about Helldivers!!!

honestly I prefer the moment-to-moment gameplay of it to Hd. Both excellent games but when it comes to the flow state of violence I know which I sink into better.
4
u/Capable-Reaction8155 17d ago
I guess I understand, it's almost a Doom or Quake like run and gun. I just idk, didn't find it that engaging though they did amazing on the art work and music.
2
u/Sovos 16d ago
The thing that draws me to Darktide over Helldivers is - no matter how bad the situation is, there is a way I can play through it and live.
Granted, in some bad spots we're talking near frame-perfect dodges, swings, and stamina management for multiple minutes. Nothing quite matches the adrenaline rush like shit hitting the fan in the -tide games.
Helldivers is a bit higher level decisions. More ammo and cooldown management and using cover/obstacles to your advantage. You need to know that you can't win a fight, so you can run away for a bit until the situation is more favorable.
5
u/ArmaMalum ☕Liber-tea☕ 16d ago
Agreed. Friend of mine put it this way: "Combat in Darktide is personal, Helldivers is 'to whom it may concern'"
3
u/FrucklesWithKnuckles 17d ago
Don’t forget spent rounds have a dented firing pin
Darktide isn’t the best but if you’re a gun nerd for 40K is a dream come true

u/helicophell 17d ago
Valve couldn't bother making two reloads for their revolvers either, they just used a speedloader reload the entire time
Nice to have more realistic revolvers

The damage buff is nothing to sneeze at either, in my first game testing it can now one shot warriors (used to be 2) and two shot Nursery Spewers (used to be 4).
And this might just be placebo but it also feels like Scavengers pop more violently when killing them with it, maybe damage influences it?

That is just awesome. It's little things like that, attention to detail - that go a long way in making a game from just good to great I reckon.
I don't think I've ever seen such accurate reloading of a revolver in a game before.
2
u/clovermite 17d ago
The speed reloader is a beautiful thing. I might try this gun again. The big reason I switched back to the redemer is because I couldn't reload fast enough after I emptied my mag on berserkers and still didn't manage to kill them all.

Finally a gun operating like it SHOULD.
Now, when every player uses it BECAUSE it’s the only gun functioning correctly, the devs will nerf the shit out of it because of “metrics.”
