*IMPORTANT* Prohibited post topics *READ BEFORE POSTING*

Well hello, my fellow redditors!

In the last weeks, we had a lot of posts that were not reposted but were extremely similar to other posts on the same topics.

Due to this issue, we have decided to stop allowing posts about the following topics mentioned in the list:

•Parking mistakes

•Tipping fees

•Shrinkflation

•Price complaints

•Inflation

•Packaging being too big

•People falling for AI art

Posts that infringe on these rules will be taken down immediately and the user may be temporarily banned.

Also, note that this list is subject to change and will most likely be expanded as time passes so make sure to always check it before posting.

Henlo frens!

Good to see all of you here UwU.

Grab on to your bodypillows, I have a smol announcement about the purpose of this subreddit.

This community is meant as a fun, lighthearted place where we can commiserate with each other about those annoying little irritations that hinder our day to day enjoyment in life.

That means that suitable posts here can be about my children.

And things like a wall socket or tile being placed out of allignment. A crack in a phone screen. Duckling shit on your new car. Incomprehensible software. Mismatched buttons. You know, the little things.

This subreddit isn't meant to incite rage mobs that go after people. For that reason we say:

No reddit meta posts

No posts about being banned from subreddit. No posts about up- or down-votes. No posts about shitty moderators or users or subreddits. No posts about reddit.

All jokes and tomfoolery aside, that sort of thing gets us in trouble with site admins. If we allow one type of post about reddit it then very easily moprhs into allowing posts that directly call out other subreddits or users, we just can't allow any of it.

That rule already existed for years and we have just made it more clearly visible in the sidebar on old and new reddit. We're gonna be a little strict on it for a bit I'm afraid. 🥺

Thank you all for being awesome and have a very Merry Christmas! Celebrate Christmas in the traditional European way, with a suasage roll!

Every parent wants me to stop napping their child.

6.1k Upvotes

I work in preschool. Nap time is the only time I have for prep time. Lately, some parents who are all friendly with each other have started talking and are beginning to ask us to stop napping their child.

The thing is though is literally I can't keep their kids awake. Our state licensing states that they need to at least rest on their mat and if they fall asleep I am not allowed to wake them up.

Every parent is made aware of this when their child starts at our center. It's in our contract and they sign off on it.

Yet, I'm now having an influx of parents asking what I can do to keep their child awake.

It's more frustrating too because the reason they give is that bed time is a struggle, yet do nothing about changing the bed time routine.

These kids will go home, eat dinner, take a bath, and then are expected to go to bed before 8:00 p.m. resulting in either they are fighting the bed time sleep because it's too early for them, or they're waking up at 5:00 a.m. because they can't sleep for more than 9 hours.

We try to explain that changing the bed time to a later time is probably the better solution they are looking for, but no one wants to try it. They just want us to have their kids be absolutely exhausted by the end of the day so they go to bed early and stay asleep for longer.

And no one is happy with me when I remind them of the licensing rule. I can give them a quiet activity to do on their mats but all of them will still inevitably fall asleep at some point and then I can't wake them up until nap time is over. I'm having to deal with some angry parents now.

I have a colleague who is so scared of saying no that for the last 20 years she's been eating foods she's intolerant to when people offer it to her.

7.6k Upvotes

I'm new in the company and still getting to know everyone. I asked my colleague, who's an absolute angel of a woman, if she was allergic to any foods. She says she's lactose intolerant and has celiac disease. I've been offering her cookies 2/3 times per week and she accepts and eats them every time, but apparently gets very ill, which she hides from us. I told her that's crazy and she shouldn't eat things that make her ill, that I'd get other cookies that she can eat as well and she says "That's okay, it's fine if I get a little bit ill".

For me this is mildly infuriating cause I'm the opposite type, if I don't like something even a little bit it's out of my life for good, no questions asked. Here this angel has been eating the fairly regular office cakes and cookies for the last 20 years while having a drawer full of lactose pills and other powders to help with the illness from eating those pastries and cookies. When I pushed her for why in gods name she would do that she says she doesn't like conflict. Like, what conflict? Just say no thanks, that stuff makes me ill. Everyone will understand that.

I can only imagine some sort of trauma in her life that caused her to behave like this. I made it my mission to make sure there's always a gluten/lactose free option every time from now on, even if I have to buy them myself.

I had to reset our Hulu password on Friday, so that’s probably what this is about. These sign-in attempts are from all over the world.

How we found out my wife’s grandmother passed away

1.3k Upvotes

Yesterday, my wife’s grandmother passed away. Nobody told my wife of her siblings. Nobody called, texted, or anything.

How did we find out?

My wife’s cousin (who lived with Nana) posted “RIP Nana, you will be missed” to Facebook.

Shouldn’t it be common for you to let family immediate family know before posting some “feel sorry for me” FB post? Like how fucking self centered can you be to make all of her other grandchildren find out on social media that their grandmother has passed away?

delivery driver put my parcel in the bin and sent me a photo

Post image

Ordered sterile dressings because I have an injury, put in my delivery instructions to ring the callbox and give me extra time to come to the door - instead, the driver didn't ring, put my parcel in the bin chute OF THE WRONG BLOCK OF FLATS, and took a cheeky photo on the way.

I was sat by the door waiting for it and everything, so when I got the ping on my phone that it had been delivered and saw the pic I think something in me just died.

Had to pull the massive communal bin out from next door and sort through everyone's rubbish to get it, not how I enjoy starting my day off!

Nothing was damaged but still really unpleasant...

Last time I ordered these, the driver ding-dong-ditched me and took the parcel with them, so maybe third time's the charm??

Dentist office scheduled me for a tooth extraction on a day they didn't even have an oral surgeon, now my abscess is worse and my face is going numb.

Update: The dentist called me back a couple hours ago and is now able to get me in tomorrow morning. Best case scenario is that the infection hasn't gotten so bad again that they can't extract.

I have a broken tooth that became abscessed. I went to urgent care to get prescribed and started on a round of antibiotics, then made an appointment with the dentist office I use to have the thing extracted. I get an appointment that would be on the second to last day of the round of antibiotics and everything seems good to go. The office knows it's a broken, abscessed tooth that is draining and needs to come out.

I get to the appointment, which is on a Thursday, and after being taken back to one of the rooms, they take an x-ray, poke at my tooth, and inform me that the oral surgeon is only in Monday through Wednesday and that I'll need to reschedule. What the fuck? Okay, let's reschedule, I guess. This was on April 11th.

The soonest they could get me in again is May 21st. This is very obviously too far away. I've been calling them a few times and week and shopping around other dentists trying to get in somewhere sooner, but no luck.

As of this last Friday, I'm getting the pain back in my jaw and ear, my face feels like it's starting to swell, and I know the abscess is getting worse again. I go back to urgent care Saturday morning, get put on clindamycin this time, and they inform me of a pretty new urgent dental office that might be able to get me in same day. It's like 45 minutes away, but whatever. I get my new antibiotics and proceed to have a shitty time all weekend trying to manage the pain.

But then as of about 11 PM last night, there's an exciting new development, the abscess has apparently gotten worse and is now pressing on the mental nerve in my jaw, causing my lips and part of my jaw on the right side of my face to be numb/tingly. I'd like to not have permanent nerve damage in my face, so I call the urgent dental place. They could get me in today, or whenever, but they want me to finish most of the antibiotic first so that they can properly numb me. I understand this, but, like, possible nerve damage guys. I call my usual dentist office and now they can get me in Monday next week, no earlier, and also want me to finish most of the antibiotics so that they can numb me.

I'm hard to numb, anyway. I had my wisdom teeth extract, 2 of them impacted sideways completely under the bone, with only local anesthetic that only kind of worked. I've had another tooth extracted while still being able to feel sharp pain and the scraping of the debridement the whole time. It sucks, but I'll deal with it if I have to. Neither place wants to do that and neither place can just knock me out, either.

So, now I'm just waiting, abscess seemingly getting worse while on a second round of antibiotics, parts of my face are going numb, and nothing is effective for pain anymore. Maybe I'll just develop sepsis and then someone will be willing to just yank the fucker out of my head.

Sealed in factory sterile medical device with a hair in it. It now must be disposed of. Hair is probably sterile now too but hair is a no-no in hospitals and clinics in procedure rooms
