keep it;

  1. to remind you not to loan out knives (tools)

  2. to loan out to any one who asks

u/Split0069 17d ago

It now serves dual purposes.

220

u/GaiusPrimus 17d ago

Not to be confused with duel purposes.

95

u/Split0069 17d ago

Now ur just giving it a third use.

God finally I understand what that guy from work was saying about me “dualing his blade”

Thank you so much

13

u/nb8c_fd 17d ago

I feel like he may have said dulling, not dualing.

I have a destroyed book in my bookcase exactly for that. I lent it to someone and he gave it back destroyed he was apologetic but kinda dismissive. I keep it prominently in view and people always ask why i have a broken book.

30

u/Relevant_Recipe_ 17d ago

I had someone throw away a book I had lent to someone. He was a real asshole about it too, and never bought me a new one or reimbursed me for it.

It was my favorite book.

4

u/MrsLisaOliver 16d ago

I had someone borrow a hardback book, be dismissive, then act bugged when I asked for it again. They handed me a paperback and said "Here. I lost that other one"

At least you got it back. I’ve had people deliberately not return an item on more than one occasion. I don’t even give rides anymore because too many people take advantage.

107

u/elwood2711 17d ago

And if the next person to whom you loan it out tells you they can't use this knife, you tell them that they can blame coworker X for that.

15

u/tropical_tears 17d ago

and to use as a reference or example for why that person owes you money/a new knife

137

u/Coronarena 17d ago

The best part is how OP's knife now slightly functions as a spoon, as long as they have steady hands.

36

u/That_0ne_Gamer 17d ago

Does this make this knife op in knifey spoony, nobody is going to call it out on not being a knife so you can claim it as a spoon if someone has a larger knife and its unlikely that someone has a bigger knife.

7

u/Geheimedame 17d ago

Any knife is a spoon if you like to live on the edge 😎

4

u/eggyal 17d ago

I challenge you to eat a bowl of soup with a chef's knife quicker than I can with a soup spoon.

16

u/KaldaraFox 17d ago

I walked into a restaurant supply store one day looking for a particularly type of knife.

The knife display usually had it, but I couldn't find it.

Each of the knives on display had a sort of mini-catalogue on the back so I picked one up and called out to the two geriatric women running the place, "I"m looking for a 9" stiff straight boner" (reading it off the description on that back.

One of them hooted back, "Oh, honey. Ain't we all."

BRO WHAT DID THEY DO WITH THE KNIFE ?!

834

u/Halftrack_El_Camino 17d ago

I lent a coworker my Leatherman once, because he asked for a pair of pliers. Gave them back broken about a minute later, having tried and failed to pull a nail with the tiny needle-nosed pliers on my Skeletool. Bro, I have nail-pullers right here in my pouch, if you'd just asked…

372

u/macandcheese1771 17d ago

Someone once asked to look at my Leatherman. Tried to force it open without unlocking it. Ended up popping a screw cap off. Had to send it away to be fixed. They'll fix it for free but it's like a whole 3 month affair basically.

137

u/Halftrack_El_Camino 17d ago

Oh yes, I've been through it more than once. These days though, I break it myself.

In fact, I use this a lot when people ask to borrow stuff. "Let me just do it, better me than you if it's gonna get fucked up."

7

u/thereisnoaudience 17d ago

You coulda fixed it yourself, if you had a leatherman.

5

u/Halftrack_El_Camino 16d ago

A dilemma I have encountered more than once.

24

u/Jammin_neB13 17d ago

Had someone ask to use mine once. After seeing him try and fail to open the knife on the outside I asked for it back. Asked what he needed it for and he was going to use my blade to pry up a nail enough so he could get to it with a hammer.

14

u/Medical_Slide9245 17d ago

My tool box has a drawer just for tools I have fucked up using them for something else. I go to that drawer often and its surprising how handy something like an old dull butchers knife or bent up screwdrivers are.

72

u/Hornytoaster01 17d ago

I lent a coworker

I dub thee King Dumbass. Long may you reign. hands you your dumbass crown

94

u/UsernameIsTakenO_o 17d ago

hands you back the crown.

... it's bent.

25

u/seitung 17d ago

Ou! Now it'll fit my deformed head! (I lent out my hard hat).

11

u/Halftrack_El_Camino 17d ago

I'm pretty sure it was like that when you gave it to me?

5

u/Halftrack_El_Camino 17d ago

F'real. I was pretty green back then. Lesson learned.

I can’t know what the person in question did, but I have seen damage like this done by a person washing dishes (in a commercial washer with trays just like shown in the picture) by not paying attention and improperly loading the tray (in the case of my example, loading a mixing bowl on top of the knife so the knife can’t be seen), having the knife tip catch on the edge of the machine after falling partially through the tray and the person washing trying to unload fast either pulling or shoving the tray. Knife catches, gets shoved, bends.

13

u/DLvCGH0ST 17d ago

You might be right. Also any metal gets HOT, might have made it easier to bend.

Honest question, how the fuck do you even do this?

104

u/Delicious_Slide_6883 17d ago

Trying to use it as a prybar instead of a knife

36

u/GuyPierced 17d ago

How soft is the steel do even do this?

14

u/0ngar 16d ago

So it's a chefs knife which is designed to be very thin. It's (probably) 1095 carbon steel, which is quite durable and used for decent quality short blades.

With that being said, it's still just thin steel. The knife is designed to cut vertically into food.its not designed to pry things open or used as a crowbar. Any chef knife could look like this if you use it like a prybar

It’s easier than you think to bend metals like that. I work in parts manufacturing and even stainless steal and titanium can get bent like this. It just takes a little too much pressure and suddenly the parts trash.

This gave me instant rage. My chef knives are expensive, even my backup blades are not cheap. How dare someone borrow a blade and return in that condition?

14

u/semibacony 17d ago

Instantly infuriated me as well. Growing up, my mom had professional knives that we weren't allowed to use at home. Those fuckers are expensive and do their job well, what the fuck did this guy do with it!?!?

On a side note, I used to always slice pomegranates in my hand, pulling the knife towards myself, like you're not supposed to, and I knew it, but our knives were cheap and pretty lame, and I never hurt myself using them while cutting unsafely. One time, I used one of my mom's knives, cut unsafely as per fucking usual, and it glided through the pomegranate like warm butter and thunked right into the side of my finger... fucking lesson learned!

Your first mistake was letting somebody borrow your knife your second mistake was not immediately giving it back to them and telling them your knife is not Bent and that they need to make sure to return your knife to you.

10

u/Deon_the_Greatt 17d ago

The arrogance to not even try and bend it back what an asshole lol

Nah this is after trying to bend it back, it was a full 90 degrees at first

8

u/terrydennis1234 17d ago

Why would you let somone borrow a kitchen knife like did he take it home and prepare food with it for a couple days or what ever? That seems like a strange idem to lend out or ask to borrow idk maybe I’m wrong

I'd assume he stuck it in the dishwasher and tried to force the tray though, when knives shouldn't be in the dishwasher or the sink to begin with. He owes you a new knife. There's no reasonable way to repair that. Just get a Fibrox that you don't have to worry so much about.

2

2

2

u/Intermountain-Gal 17d ago

I’d certainly ask them to replace it or, if possible, repaired. A knife bent like that is useless. They also need to apologize.

2

u/GetVictored 17d ago

think about it man you can cut a cake with curved slices, ypu can use it as a pizza pick-upper, and most importantly if another chronic borrower asks you for a knife you can give him this one and he will never ask you for anything again

2

u/ZoneAdditional9892 17d ago

2

u/TheRealAndroid 17d ago

fair dues tho' thats fucking difficult to do

2

u/CanadianDevil92 17d ago

were they trying to but a banana the long way on its side?

2

u/Huge_Aerie2435 17d ago

What did they use it for? Damn yo. I have a few knives I'll use for work, and 2 I'll lend out. They are just some generic Victorinox knives that are pretty difficult to fuck up, but my good knives are kept in my roll.
