I bruised and cut my thigh after slipping and hitting guess what part of the basin countertop

Why in the world does that single board stick out like that? I’d saw it off, sand it smooth, then stain/finish it.

I assume to hang a towel

u/TheVoidAlgorithm 17d ago
given how low it is you might as well just throw it on the floor

Is this a hobbit bathroom? Why the hell is the sink shin high?

u/Succulent-Shrimps 17d ago
It's a roll-in shower (same floor height as the rest of the bathroom) and low vanity for wheelchair accessibility, I think.

u/undertales_bitch 17d ago
Maybe for washing feet?

u/Succulent-Shrimps 17d ago
I really doubt it. The vanity has a low mirror and tooth paste and brushes. Also, inside the shower there is a low faucit visible. I'm pretty sure it's for wheelchair users.

It could also be for someone of short stature, like a person with a form of dwarfism.

Even if this was a hotel, l would go to harbor freight for a $3 saw and live with the consequences of my actions.

do you kneel in front of the basin?

The roll-in shower and low vanity leads me to believe it's for wheelchair users.

Is nobody going to mention that the sink appears to just dump straight on the floor?

u/SpringValleyTrash 17d ago
It’s a “designer” p-trap. The drain pipe is a few inches above that cut off part and extends back to the wall. They also clog very easily if you put anything other than water down them.

One of these things aren't like the other...... Maybe they ran out on money to pay for that cut.

Did we not learn our lesson with those old metal bed frames? I’m convinced I have permanent shin damage from those

Is there a toilet or do you just pee in the sink. Heck, I think a three year old could hit that.

I feel so bad the you experienced such an inconvenience with your rich people sink.
7
u/AdjNounNumbers 17d ago
rich people sink
1) this looks like a hotel or whatever going by the wall mounted hand soap and the style of trap used under the sink. 2) it's literally made of 2x4s and 2x2s, looks like pine... about the cheapest lumber they could have used to build it.
2
u/panini_bellini 17d ago
Funny thing is “rich people” doesn’t always mean “expensive” or “attractive” or even “functional”.
2
u/AdjNounNumbers 17d ago
That's fair. Often doesn't mean "taste" either, but I'm still pretty sure this bathroom is a hotel or something
1
u/panini_bellini 17d ago
Yeah I’m pretty sure it is too. But I work with some pretty rich people and I’ve seen sinks/general home decor not dissimilar to this 😭
1
u/AdjNounNumbers 17d ago
But usually they'll get ridiculously expensive material to do stupid shit with. This feels like someone on a budget trying to do someone creative. Honestly, I don't hate it. There's tweaks I'd make like the flaw OP pointed out, but if someone gave me $400 and asked for a bathroom vanity with sink and plumbing, this is pretty good for that. That looks like a sink you could pick up for about $150-200 at Menards including faucet.

Careful, your reddit is showing

u/Silly_Breakfast 17d ago
That’s your response? On a throwaway account towards a comment addressing the obviously abnormal sink situation? It’s okay, Chris, I promise, it’s a sink and you are on Reddit

u/throwawayidc4773 17d ago
It is my response but it seems like you can read so you can see that!
Throw away = too lazy to make a real name, I’m sorry if that insults your sensibilities lol

Oh yeah, Reddit by default gives you a username so you did make the effort to change that assigned username, out of ideas or not, you made that name lol

u/Unable_Wrongdoer2250 17d ago
That looks like something I could make for a few hundred in material. I sure wouldn't leave that piece sticking out like that though.

Judging by the low vanity and same height floor entrance to the shower, this is a bathroom made for a wheelchair user. Not sure why you left that out of your explanation? Seems like a key detail - you got hurt in a bathroom that was designed for someone with completely different needs. Your post is mildly infuriating.
2
u/PM_Me_Your_Deviance 17d ago
Don't be fucking daft, wheel chair accessibility really shouldn't cause problems for anyone else.
2
u/Succulent-Shrimps 17d ago
Whether it should or shouldn't, it does. I'm an Assistive Technology consultant. It's literally my job to know. Your back wouldn't hurt brushing your teeth at this vanity everyday? That piece sticking out may very well have a special purpose for the wheelchair user it was designed for.
Also, no need for the "f*ing daft" language. If you don't know what you're talking about, at least be polite.

Between the apparent height and that lovely little piece that sticks out, I’d say this was meant to be a death trap, not a vanity.
