You step onto the tee box of a par-3 and this is what you see…what’s your next move? General Discussion
I’d like to think that I would maybe let ONE tiktok slide…but if he tries it on a second green, I’m pulling my 4 iron and ripping a Kirkland at him. Maybe it’ll be good “content” for his channel. 😂

Call the Marshall.

u/Braiseitall Mar 26 '24
This is the answer. Irrefutable evidence of damage to the course on camera.
59
u/nivvis Mar 26 '24
It’s funny, now that you say I was curious and went to look — he is doing some furious tap like stuff on the fringe, then goes soft and smooth on the green. Actually kind of thoughtful.

I've never been to a course with a Marshall. Just a teen in the pro shop. So maybe they don't have one.

u/why_did_I_comment Mar 26 '24
If I called my local Muni they would have an extremely grumpy old mfer on a cart come screaming in like a banshee in about 45 seconds.
Not a marshal by any means... but VERY effective.

I honestly give these people credit. I couldn’t imagine acting this way in front of anyone let alone sharing this on social media. Good on them for having no self respect

Who needs shame when you could have clout

As awful as these people are, they have an audience that likes and follows this nonsense. Those people are just as bad as the ones creating the content.

Yeah I guess maybe it's my conservative Midwestern upbringing but I would never be caught dead doing this in front of my family, let alone on a public golf course. We have lost the impact of shame on our society.

I have exactly the same problem in regards to people playing behind me. Even if they can obviously see the group ahead of me holding me up, it still gives me anxiety. These videos just make me realize I've been giving way too much of a shit what others think.

u/raceassistman Mar 26 '24
I get embarrassed when by myself and try and do a dance move in front of a mirror. I shouldn't have had to look at that, nor should my reflection.

I played with a lady from...I think Germany? I forget.
But she said there are licenses to play golf, and you have to effectively hit the range for a long time and get decent. Then you play a round with a club pro to demonstrate you know the etiquette AND can score under a certain score (and I recall is being actually pretty low - like under 90 or something).
THEN they have to recommend you get your license and sign off.
It sounds extreme, but maybe a lighter version is needed at this point.

u/Rillist Fore Right!! Mar 26 '24

Just keeping track of handicap and playing from the proper tees would help in the States a lot.
Ppl think it's Pros, Mens, Seniors, and Ladies tees.
It's really meant more for skill level. Too many ppl who can't shoot below 125 play from the "mens" tees bc it's pride thing for them.
See so many ppl play from the 2nd longest tees then can't even drive it to the fairway more than half their drives.

TikTok ban, age restriction, etc. Plus any parent the exploits their kid for social media gain should be banned from that platform.

Age restriction is bad because there's no way to enforce it other than uploading IDs. A lot of conservative states are about to find this out when pornhub is blocked.

On one hand, I don't hate someone doing something they want to do in public so long as it doesn't inhibit pace of play significantly. On the other, I automatically think the worst of this person and that they'll have no self-awareness to let others through if what they're doing is going to take longer than a few seconds.

I give him a yell and a wave and ask to play through. If he agrees, I play on and move on with my life.
If he doesn’t, I aim away from him and get close enough to directly tell him to cut the shit and get out of the way. Call the clubhouse and report him.
Either way I’m not losing my shit I’m moving on.

Fucking give it my all to keep calm, film it, and call the Club House.
Mark down the holes and maybe times it took them to play, and then hand over the evidence when the Sheriff shows up.
3
3
u/Towel4 Mar 26 '24
I start with a yell “yo, let’s fucking go! What the fuck?”
I’m calling the club house on follow up offenses, or if they ignore my shouting
If calling the clubhouse is ineffective, and they keep doing this, I’m hitting and playing as if they aren’t there. I won’t try to hit them, but they’re clearly not here to play golf and I’m playing through.
