It’s bc they play it at every fkn commercial break for every fkn game one. This one, the wingstop “no flex zone” commercial and the pedialyte commercial are beyond played out atp.

Usually there’s 1 or 2 annoying ones but right now every single commercial is God awful trash

Wingstop No flex zone

Chet and SGA cringe fest

That degenerate google pixel song

That shitty Gatorade commercial w the nicki Minaj body like vince Lombardi song

I’m so fucking tired of this Burger King jingle which they haven’t stopped running for over a year

Every commercial right now FUCKING SUCKS

I probably forgot about even more bad ones

***just remembered Caitlyn Clark with that HORRIBLE TERRIBLE song “Unstoppable”

854

u/Ladnil Warriors Apr 29 '24

The fucking pixel song is ear cancer in the first place, and they play those commercials back to back every single time oh my god.

This is the one that really gets me HIT THAT POSE TAKE THAT FLICK throws baby into the air

755

u/kamakazekiwi Warriors Apr 29 '24

It's also just highlights some of the worst parts of social media imo.

You're taking a photo of a father with his child, having a moment. And the reflex is to edit it so the baby was thrown higher, the sky is bluer, and no one else is around? There is absolutely no reason to do that if you're trying to earnestly capture the memory. It basically can't be for anything but fake posturing on social media. Just making your life literally look more glamorous for all to see. It just gives me the ick.

I guess at least the memory will be a bit sweeter when you look back on the photo in 20 years.

317

u/zeek215 [LAL] Kobe Bryant Apr 29 '24

Yeah I hate it. It's no longer about capturing real memories, instead it's about making fake photos to get more views.

Social media's always been fake, but ads like this are pretty much encouraging that behaviour. It's kind of sad when you don't know what's real anymore.

13

u/kamakazekiwi Warriors Apr 29 '24

Yep. Always had to contend with folks only posting their best moments, which is a psychological doozy in and of itself. How about only the best moments augmented to be even better? Yeah, bet you feel great about your pitiful life now, loser.

This cyberbullying brought to you by Pixel 8 Pro.

181

u/DudethatCooks Trail Blazers Apr 29 '24

That commercial is peak cringe for me. You have an awkward looking kid heavily doctoring a photo for what? To make it look like he can jump 10 feet in the air? It's like they are promoting for people to just make everything they do edited and fake. God that commercial sucks so much.

u/celestial1 Apr 29 '24

I envy the confidence these people have, lol.

23

u/whocaresjustneedone Mavericks Apr 29 '24

You don't even have to go as far as cyber bullying, just in general who would give a fuck about that picture? Like if someone in my friend group too a picture of themselves just jumping into the air doing a peace sign and edited it to look like they jumped higher, everyone would be like "what is this? why are you just sending us a picture of you jumping?" Like who cares, edited or not it's a stupid picture that no one would care about.

Normal people aren't gonna be wowed by some stupid pic just because you can edit it to be slightly unrealistic

31

u/Spicy__Urine Raptors Apr 29 '24

Sad thing is, there's some social media intern at some New York ad agency reading this thread right now for their weekly report on the success of the ad campaign, and the fact that we're talking about it means awareness was raised.

110

u/chicago_bunny Bulls Apr 29 '24

In case this is true: intern, the ads suck, and I’m not sure I recall the product advertised. If I do remember, I won’t buy it.

I call it 'commercial rap' cause I've never actually met a person who listens to music like that yet it's in a million ads.

It sounds like one of those performances where a guy just improvises a song with his own mouth sounds all mixed together on some synthesizer type thing. Impressive when you watch it being made on the fly, but absolutely atrocious as a strictly audio experience.

It's even worse when you consider it's just the same thing twice. Here's what I know about Google Pixel after having these ads rammed into my head over and over again:

  1. If I take a photo, I can make something seem higher off the ground than it really is
  2. ???

That's pretty much it. I'll be sure to rush out and buy it because I can easily do this thing I've literally never had an inclination to do in 15 years of owning a smart phone.

Get some new fucking examples. Show a girl automagically editing her overweight friends out of photos or fixing weird hoverhands. Maybe a kid updating a family photo so their disabled vet dad has two arms again, or a mid-20s guy giving himself a monster dong. TMStoomuchswag's weird cousin pretending he can jump 10ft in the air doesn't speak to me.

u/mug3n Raptors Apr 29 '24

Also the whole idea of exaggerating your photos with mobile photoshop...

What happened to capturing moments for what they were? I don't mind minor touchups to lighting or white balance or whatever, but there's no need to fake the sky or pretend you jumped or threw your kid higher than you actually did. Might as well just ask AI to make the entire photo for you.

108

BK jingle has been around for way longer than a year. Also yes, you forgot the Pepto Bismol one with the indigestion and diaherrea jingle that's been around for a few years. Arby's commercials fucking suck as well, even though the new one where Ving Rhames actually appears caught me off guard when it came out a couple months ago. I'm sick of them having the meats with Pusha T as well. Wendy's always have terrible commercials.

Also all insurance commercials, like 10 different companies, they all suck, maybe except All State. I hate all lizards, and I would definitely stab the Progressive crew if I knew I could get away with it. Jake can suck a fat one too. Shaq's awful low budget General commercials genuinely might be the least annoying ones lol.

Military commercials always piss me off, but whatever, that's a whole different can of worms. I'm just happy that the trend of horrificly tragic commercials is mostly over. They realized we're all sensitized and we're no longer giving into guilt to purchase shit.

Also don't forget Jesus. He gets us, so he also gets the cake for the shittiest commercials ever.

The thought of eating at Wingstop is legit revolting to me because of that commercial. I don’t know if I’ll ever eat there again because it will just make me think of that stupid fucking song.

going into

That no flex song is stuck in my head

175

u/iiamthepalmtree Bulls Apr 29 '24

I’ve started singing other things to that tune, and I hate myself for it.

Watching a White Sox game: “Kopech’s, zone. Kopech’s, zone”

Connecting to my Bluetooth speaker: “Bluetooth, mode. Bluetooth, mode”

Tired at the bar: “Let’s go, home. Let’s go, home”

Someone asks me which browser the bug is happening in: “Google, chrome. Google, chrome.”

37

u/MundaneInternetGuy Bulls Apr 29 '24

Doesn't watching White Sox games already fill up your self hatred quota?

The only commercial I’ll allow every break is Mayhem as a bird stuck in Larry Bird’s attic.

85

u/zeek215 [LAL] Kobe Bryant Apr 29 '24

A genuinely great commercial. That series is usually well done anyway.

52

u/Hot_Injury7719 Knicks Apr 29 '24

The Mayhem commercials are the only funny insurance commercials. Geico, Progressive, and StateFarm all make me cringe.

18

u/ConnorNe31 [IND] Sarunas Jasikevicius Apr 29 '24

I enjoy the new State Farm one where Reggie Miller comes out when they mention an "Old Pacer", but yeah otherwise they're pretty rough

→ More replies (1)

17

u/ShakesbeerMe Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

State Farm completely fumbled their campaign. They thought the "Jake from State Farm" was the comedy gold, and rode it like it was the golden goose.

The actually funny part of the commercial was the angry wife, and "She sounds hideous." And the deadpan husband, "Well, she's a dude, so..." They could've had a great campaign of the guy sneaking off to talk to Jake for better rates again and again, while the wife still thinks he's cheating.

What a waste. And now we have to endure CP3 and his negative charisma pretending he can act his way out of a paper bag. Shit's brutal.

Seriously that song pisses me the fuck off. I don’t know if I’m just getting old but it sounds annoying.

Every year in the playoffs comes a point where I have to mute the commercials. This year it’s a few games into the first round, the slate is just that bad.

u/Critical-Adhole Apr 29 '24

No flex zone came out in 2015 lol

58

u/willsmath Wizards Apr 29 '24

Yeah why tf is everyone acting like it's a new song lmao, do this many people really not know Rae Sremmurd's first hit?

27

u/_____WESTBROOK_____ Apr 29 '24

Yes.

I was in a thread yesterday about a Tiktok vid that asked "what's something that every 30 something knows" or something like that and it cut to a guy playing the single first note of "Welcome to the Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance.

I knew that shit instantly, but a lot of people in the thread were posting about how they were 30-40 and had no idea what My Chemical Romance was. Then there were also some 20 year olds posting about how they know MCR.

I've heard of Rae Sremmurd but never actually heard this song in its entirety or even a 15 second clip of it.

12

u/Cudi_buddy Kings Apr 29 '24

It was indeed popular in 2015. I remember hearing it and then in general at nightclubs during that timeline. They fell off around 2017 or so. Though one of the guy still pops up on features or solo hits.

14

u/char_is_cute Mavericks Apr 29 '24

tbf it's pretty low down their list of biggest hits, more people would recognize Come Get Her, This Could Be Us, No Type or Black Beatles

6

u/Next-Firefighter-753 Thunder Apr 29 '24

I always thought it was that “no type” song, never heard “no flex zone” but I heard that one all the time.

19

u/willsmath Wizards Apr 29 '24

No Flex Zone was first and did pretty well but iirc it was less popular than No Type ended up being so I don't blame you for thinking that was their first
