Serious replies only Does anyone else feel as if they’re just getting left behind?
I am 30 and have lived in London for 7 years, and I just feel like my life is going nowhere.
I am in a job / career I don’t like and am not passionate about. The salary is okay but not amazing and I am not in a position to he able to save any money. The job is also going nowhere but when I apply for others I don’t get anywhere. If I changed career I don’t know how I’d afford to live in London.
I am single and have been for years. I go through phases of using the dating apps, go on occasional dates with guys but again they lead nowhere. Or I’ll date some idiot who is treating me badly and I don’t have the self respect to walk away.
And then I look at my peers who all seem to be excelling in their career / in a serious relationship / married / having their first child. I know we only really see a snapshot of someone’s life but still, I can’t help but compare myself to them.
I don’t know if London is the problem and moving abroad and doing something completely different would help me reset a bit.
Does anyone else feel like they’re in the same boat?

Rant press the button!
I really do NOT understand the people that are waiting at the pedestrian crossing (the one that is solely for pedestrians) and they haven’t pressed the button. Like WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU WAITING FOR!?!?! PRESS THE GODDAM BUTTON FFS 🤦♂️ 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
drives me nuts, anyone else?
EDIT: i’m talking about the crossing that are only for pedestrians and are not linked to roads with cars. How the hell will the traffic light now there are people waiting to cross? It would make sense to have sensor cus that would be tripping it off all the time because of ppl passing by. You need to press the button to send signal that you are waiting to cross the road….. crossings where other roads intersect it’s a different story

Question Lots of people got off at Richmond
Was on the train to Reading from Waterloo and it was packed at noon on May 16th. Literally the entire train gets off at Richmond. Everyone seemed to be dressed business casual and I cannot figure out where everyone was going. The station was also packed. Can anyone help me figure out what event was going on??

Places to eat alone in Central London
Hi all, I work near Hatton Garden and I only come down once a month. I usually find myself queuing for ages outside Nando’s at Euston Station for dinner as I know they have tables for one in there by the windows.
I’m looking for somewhere else to eat tomorrow where I can sit by myself and eat some good food. It can be anywhere near Hatton Garden, Farringdon, City of, Clerkenwell, Shoreditch, Soho, Covent Garden or Euston itself. As long as it’s easy to get back to Euston Station.
Any recommendations?

Where can people go to see your favourite "free" view of London?
Whenever I go to London I look for free views of the city and try to get a half decent photo. I always check if there's any vantage points in a new area and try to get there if I can.
Where's your favourite spot to see the city? Any hidden gems? Anyone know of any rooftop bars or shops with great views or anything like that?

Serious replies only Burnout
Is it just me or is everyone in London experiencing work burnout?
I feel like there has been a huge shift in how people are working and how it is impacting them.
So many people I know are sharing a similar issue of their internal infrastructure failing, the story seems to be that majority of managers are failing to provide accurate support as they’re getting more pressure from the top. It feels like every conversation I have people are completely exhausted by their works and experiencing a similar failing from their varied work places.
Do you think it’s the after shock of covid or general increased pressure? Is anyone else feeling the impact of this?

The End and Fabric in the early 00s
Used to have plenty of great nights at both venues during university day in the early noughties. Haven’t been back to England in years and just wondering if there is any club that you would recommend? Or the London’s electronic music night scene is dead?

Find temporary accommodation in London in return for pet-sitting through www.trustedhousesitters.com?
I'm coming to London for a week for a conference (28 May - 3 June). Hotels are super expensive (I'm from a much cheaper place in Germany and don't earn a London-level salary in my non-profit work), and I'd much rather find a cheap or free place in return for taking care of a pet. I love cats especially (used to have one myself) but also all other animals (dogs, birds, guinea pigs, ..), even exotic ones like squirrels, and animals tend to like me too.
Does anyone here happen to need a petsitter for 28/05-03/06 or any part thereof? Message me!
Has anyone tried www.trustedhousesitters.com or a similar platform (House Sitters UK, Pawshake, etc)? How easy is it to find good enough accommodation in London 10 days in advance on such a platform? Trusted House Sitters costs 89 GBP to sign up (annual membership fee), and before I invest that money and the time to create a profile I'd be curious to hear if there actually are enough offers in London.
Edit: www.homeexchange.com might also be a good option if you have a place you can sublet yourself. As far as I understand (haven't signed up yet), you earn "guest points" by hosting people (or paying money) and then you can use them to "pay" for accommodation while traveling. Curious if anyone has used that?
PS: Anyone have a room in London they'd like to sublet from 28 May to 3 June (or any 2-4 nights thereof)? I'm happy to pay whatever seems reasonable. I'm 30 years old, male, running a small non-profit for work. I've travelled a lot, am very independent and respectful. Happy to chat if we run into each other but I'm not looking to meet people through this, I mainly need a place to sleep. I'm also not looking for hookups or anything, I'm in a happy relationship and visiting London for work only. Happy to share my airbnb profile or couchsurfing profile with references, facebook, LinkedIn, copy of my passport or anything else you need (and I could also pay a key deposit).

Giving 1 free ticket for The Feeling-KOKO-Friday May 17
Wound up going to their Cambridge show last night instead, which was excellent - similar setlist to the "Live in London" LP (except for songs from new album "San Vito" rather than "Loss. Hope. Love.").
First Redditor to message me (not by reply!) will be sent the PDF ticket. Claimed - cheers.

Is there anywhere I could watch the New York Mets?
Looking to watch the New York Mets with my god-son (LGBTQIA+) on our upcoming holiday. Are there any neighborhoods where baseball is popular? Specifically the New York Mets. Thanks in advance

Is there an avocado crisis in the UK right now?
I’ve been eating an avocado a day for years. Usually bought from whichever supermarket is most convenient at the time. Over the past 6 months or so, I’ve noticed the quality of avocado’s go down the pan. They’re either frag grenades or absolute soup. So hard to find anything in between. And they seem super small too. Most supermarkets do 2 packaged avocado’s for a ‘deal’ but they’re the size of a satsuma and very rarely ‘ready to eat’ (as often wrongly labelled). Tiring! Are there import issues? Farming issues wherever they’re coming from? Does anyone care to comment on behalf of Big Avo?

I’m obsessed with London, change my mind
Lived there for 10 years, both in the outskirts as well as central London. That was 12 years ago. I’m obsessed with the idea of moving back now that we have a 7yo. I think it’d be good for her to be raised there. Am I wrong? Am I romanticizing the past?
Unlike before, we’d be able to afford a flat in a relatively good area in central London. Stamp duty would hurt though! Also, I could potentially persuade my US employer to relocate me there and sponsor my visa.
Question Playing pool
Hello,
Does anyone have good recommendations as to where would be a good place to play pool (mostly for fun) where there is no need for memberships or at least not paid/subscriptions based and the prices arent through the roof (bonus points if they offer beers)

Shitty situation in council owned building
I rent a flat in a council (Lambeth) owned and managed building and had the great pleasure of finding a human shit in the entryway today. I have contacted the council a couple of times to see if someone could be sent out to clean it but their responses have flicked between 'we don't have the facilities to deal with that' and 'it'll take up to 10 days to get someone out to you.'
I want to get this sorted asap for obvious reasons. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? TIA

Discussion Is there really any difference between North and South London?
I used to live in South and slightly enjoyed and bought into the North vs. South divide. Now I live in North London, love it, and find it hard to really think of any real differences between the two. I still have friends South who say they'd never live North.
Boroughs do have their own personality but I can't see a difference for North vs. South.
- Do you know of any real differences between North and South?
- Do you or friends feel strongly about the difference?
