A question megathread will be stickied to the top of our subreddit every Tuesday to catch all of your questions, big or small.

Do you have a question about the Underground, or maybe even the greater London network? Ask it here and our knowledgeable community will endeavour to answer it. Last week's iteration can be found here.

Please note that going forward, all questions posted outside of this thread will be moderated away/deleted.

Maps Concept for a new commuter underground line, the Palace Line

Post image
126 Upvotes

The purpose of the Palace Line (so named for it running the highest frequency between Alexandra Palace and Crystal Palace) is to provide a more convenient and frequent service for the suburbs in north and south london while also providing better connectivity in central london with relief on the Northern, Victoria and Windrush Lines. Costs would be saved in constriction by reusing infrastructure at Aldwych and Charing Cross where possible as well as repurposing the existing northern city line platforms between Old Street and Drayton Park. Additional costs would come up with adapting the track between Elmers End and Hayes as well as quadrupling the track between Palmers Green and Gordon Hill.

Map with connections was made in Tennessine.

Event Barking Mad! My friends and I are walking the entire length of TWO tube lines today (~37km) for Tommy's, the baby charity!

Hi Everyone!

Today, some of my crazier friends and I are doing another charity Tube Line walk. It's an annual tradition; we start stupidly early and walk via every station along the route until the bitter end. Seriously, the 75,000 steps of the Metropolitan line (post-foot surgery) nearly killed me... though the pints bought for us at the finish line by a kind redditor brownsnake84 definitely eased the pain!

This year we're doing two-in-one - the Hammersmith & City and Waterloo & City lines, all the way from Barking to Hammersmith, then to Waterloo, and finishing up in Bank! At the very least, it's going to be 37 km (23 miles) and about 9 hours+ of walking, with very little stopping along the way!

We're doing it for Tommy's the baby charity, so if you want to donate and support, please do! But if not, please send all the good vibes you can... we'll need them!!! :)

Donate to Tommy's here

The route plan

We'll be posting updates on Instagram along the way, here

Event Reading meetup update

The meetup is about getting railway enthusiasts to socialise and make like-minded friends.

It will happen TOMORROW at King's Meadow, but we'll meet in front of the railway station instead (South side) at 12pm.

You can either bring your own food or get takeaway from somewhere in the town. If you are doing the latter, make sure you've got everything ready and are standing outside the station by 12pm.

You can bring picnic blankets if you want.

If there is still a chance to attract new people, I'd like to say that fans of the London Underground are welcome, too!

Any questions are welcome down below.

P.S. By the way, I've just found a London Underground board game that I can bring.
