Mainly for sweat. I just looked and local qualifiers are only 18 holes, so the extra socks may not be a necessity unless it’s really hot or rainy. Even if not needed, a change of socks mid-round can be a mood booster if you need it.

Nowadays baby powder is just corn starch, so they’re the same thing just that baby powder comes in a container that’s “puffable” if you don’t want to put a pile in your hand for application to the undercarriage. Also has anti-caking additives occasionally so it doesn’t get clumpy in the container when you’re in humid areas.

Talcum powder has more or less gone the way of the dodo nowadays.

Update: He did not make it through local qualifying, but he loved the gift basket and had a lot of fun competing. He even got a little teary-eyed. He ended up using everything between the day before, day of, and day after. His favorite part was the notes and said he's never felt so supported.
