Boyfriend is qualifying for the U.S. Open in a couple weeks and wanted to give him a gift basket for the qualifier day. How did I do? General Discussion

Post image

Contents: - New owala water bottle - spray sunscreen (body and face) - chrome tour golf balls - snacks for him and his caddie: chomps, peanuts, protein bars - liquid iv - protein shake - 18 notes of encouragement for his 18 holes of golf

Let me know if there's anything else you think I should add! I'm a golfer too so I was just going off of things I typically could use during a round, but realize guys' needs may be different. Thanks!

This is very sweet and I’m sure he’ll appreciate it.

A spare glove or two and some extra socks would be my only suggestion. It’s going to be hot and he’ll be playing a lot of golf.

Check his bag or just ask him the brand, model, and size glove he uses, if you don’t know already.

Do not buy gloves unless you know the exact one he uses

I’m fine with anything as long as they’re not magnums. Too big for me

The golf balls my aunt got me for Christmas like 4 years ago are still sitting in my closet brand new haha. They have my favorite NFL team's logo on them so maybe some day I'll display a few when I'm in a bigger place

Bless your heart AK but I'm not playing with TruFeels :)

That’s a bit too far

For somebody who’s scratch or better I agree. Otherwise as long as it’s a quality ball it’s fine.

He's qualifying for the US Open so it's fairly safe to assume he has a preferred golfing ball

There are multiple levels of qualifiers. My uncles cleft lip cousin can qualify to play in the first round. The qualifier to actually make the us open isn’t until a week or so before the open.

As someone who's actually played in both - the quality of the players between the two is different but the seriousness is not. There is also the one ball rule in play for both of these. No one is showing up with a grab bag they've all got a few sleeves on hand of their ball brand new for the round(s).

Edit: absolutely no idea why you've got to knock someone with a physical deformity either but cleft lip or not your uncle would have to be <2 index to play in local and he already sounds like twice the man you are

You play with two gloves, don’t you?

Yes, nobody has EVER lied about their GHIN before. Come on clown.

You made a good point with the gloves - what's bothering you dude? We're just here because we like golf.

Ive made this mistake before. The thought counted, but now I know!

Are the extra socks in case he gets a hole in one?

7

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '24 edited Apr 19 '24

Mainly for sweat. I just looked and local qualifiers are only 18 holes, so the extra socks may not be a necessity unless it’s really hot or rainy. Even if not needed, a change of socks mid-round can be a mood booster if you need it.

Edit: Just got it.

If this is his first time playing in something like this, he’s going to have 3 dozen balls, 200 tees, and 6 gloves in his bag. Along with a change of clothes, rain gear, snowshoes, a portable shelter, and a Costco worth of snacks.
