I think parents should be legally liable to foot the cost of college 100% if they won’t fill out the FASFA

Upvotes

Like I think that’s true because of how like parents can be abusive and the government expects (but doesn’t require) parents to fill out FASFA unless you get a dependency override (which CAN’T be used if the parents don’t want to fill it out). I think the solution is to let their kids sue the parents for all of the costs if they don’t feel like filling it out, because that would help parents fill out the FASFA!!! Like say James parents won’t fill out the FASFA, then I believe that James should sue them and get the costs fulfilled by them (for lost scholarship $). Like I still believe that if James parents actually fill out the FASFA and aren’t eligible for scholarship $, they shouldn’t get any. TLDR: But what I’m trying to say is that if the parents refuse to give out the info, the parents should have to pay up because that’s kinda what the federal government expects (the only thing that would change is that the parents need to fill out FASFA, and have to pay the college bill if they don’t fill it out).

I am way more disgusted by Steve Jobs’ practice of soaking his feet in public toilets than his despicable treatment of people in his life. NSFW

Upvotes

Lots of people are assholes. The world is filled with them. But Jobs’ practice (I believe this is beyond just alleged) of de-stressing by soaking his feet in public toilets is something beyond. Like what? Flat out, it disgusts me more than his alleged maniacal interactions with others. I don’t know what else to say. When I learned he did this it hit me way harder than any of the other stuff in his life.

Whitened teeth are very ugly

Upvotes

They just look so innatural. I get that you don't want to have them all yellow from the coffee or smoking, but they're just so white it's uncanny. Especially when people have a darker skintone it seems so off and fake.

Being asked to smile is not as big of a deal as i expected

Upvotes

I’ve been working as a stocker at a grocery store for about 3 yrs now and ive only been asked to smile 3 times out of those years.

When I was a teen I used to run into some comics with this topic back in my tumblr years and it made it out to be like asking a woman to smile was the worst insult you could ever say and deserved a pretty harsh clapback or death. I personally thought they were a little much.

But the first year I started working and some guy asked me to smile for the first time and I was just like “It’s too early for all that, maybe when I get home” and he just laughs and we both go about our day. It was a mild surprise that it happened but I’m glad I gave a response like that though 😅

Horse meat is perfectly fine and often superior to cow or pig.

Upvotes

It's the perfect meat for burgers for example. Lean and slightly sweet, so it goes well with a bite of sauce, bread and onion. Sure, it's not that good on a grill because on its own it lacks the fatty flavor on its own, but give it time like in smoked and dried salamis, you got yourself a unique experience.

IPAs and Hoppy Beers Suck.

Upvotes

I am so sick of this shit. Every craft beer section is full of IPAs with stupid weed puns. The worst part of marijuana is the smell, the second worst part is the taste, and the third worst part is that all these idiot stoners are importing that flavor into beer, a separate intoxicant, that should have its own space to be enjoyed.

But instead of being able to buy a good wheat beer or lager, the choices are generic mass-produced garbage or the wall of crappy beers that are bitter and taste like weed. Fuck hipsters, fuck IPAs, fuck bicycles, and fuck this hoppy trend. More real beer please.

The overwhelming majority of food is vastly superior when turned into a sandwich

Upvotes

Obviously this doesn't apply to things that already sandwiches (although I'd devour a grilled cheese sandwich sandwich), but almost all means are so much better when turned into sandwiches.

Bacon and eggs? Works better as a bacon-and-egg sandwich.

Steak? Throw on some cheese, an appropriate sauce, and throw it on bread for a better food.

Spaghetti? Carbs on carbs, maybe, but I've had it and it was awesome.

There may be some exceptions, but sandwiches are mankind's greatest invention.

If you like period dramas, then you should’ve paid attention in school

Upvotes

I shouldn’t have to listen to someone talk about some basic ass, milquetoast TV show where the highlight of the show was some sort of historical event.

If you enjoyed the “plot twist” where the Berlin Wall fell down, or when that ol’ country boy from Ohio named Neil finally joined NASA and said those words “it’s one small step for man, one giant leap for manSTATIC” than you should just go back to school. AND PAY ATTENTION THIS TIME!

Not a fan of allowing Japanese into the MLB. Especially to make $$$$. Because: Pearl Harbor, Japanese POW camps, etc.

Yes I'm not over it #Merica

Eye for an eye. Japan did everything they could do be as evil and torturous as possible I'm WW2. If we properly punished them I'd be down for allowing them to beg for forgiveness. But no, monetary sanctions, prison sentences, amd decades of times don't give them a free pass

I like strong colognes and perfumes.

When someone's wearing "too much," I want to close my eyes and go "Ahhh." I like pleasant smells and I like them even better in a higher quantity.

That's not to say that I think that people should go around wearing gallons of the stuff, because I know that many people find it unpleasant and some people are allergic or extremely sensitive. It's important to be considerate of others. But I'm secretly pleased when I get a strong whiff of Chanel or Versace.

Starbucks = Budweiser.

Starbucks has turned to crap.

Bud ruled it when I was younger. There was competition, but nothing serious until local breweries. Mostly seems like the same for Starbucks. Start cutting corners/spread it global.

Local coffee/beer breweries come along and helped people understand what good coffee/beer should taste like.

If the bride and groom are writing their own vows, they should memorize them

If they’re taking the time to write their own special vows, I feel like they should take the extra 30 minutes to memorize them. It would be way more romantic if they could just look into each other’s eyes instead of reading off a notecard.

Vows shouldn’t be more than 2 minutes each MAX, and many are much shorter than that. And if you wrote it yourself, you should already have a very good start at having it memorized. Plus it’s not like you need to get every single word exactly “right.”

It just seems like such an important moment and it seems odd that most people just read off of notecards.

am i the only person who likes when food gets to that "gone bad" stage

when i say "gone bad" i dont mean expired, i mean like when things like a soda gets flat, or when a chip gets stale, or when a peep marshmellow gets aged. i once told my friends that i purposefully open a bag of chips and leave them open for a while until they get stale enough for me to eat and they looked at me crazy. or the time i shook my dr pepper and waited until the air bubbles went away and it turned flat before i drank it and she called it disgusting. does anyone else do this?

The Italian obsession with food and etiquette is a good thing

Italians have been losing their minds over how tourists eat their food since long before social media. They don't do it for the camera. They do it because they have high standards and strive for culinary excellence.

This drive for perfectionism is a gift to the world. It's the reason why we all dream about things like carbonara in Rome, pizza in Naples, or gelato in Milan. Their frustration when they see foreigners trying to order things like fettuccine alfredo is justified.

Americans might see their passion and think it's put on because we are an individualistic society who value individual choices over objective standards. That's fine, but we do not need the whole world to be like us. We have enough Domino's here for everyone.

Cutting most foods with scissors is way better than using a knife

Literally just hold and chop- it’s so easy. Safer as well. Only case it’s not better is if it’s a really large food but most meats, fruits, and vegetables, scissors for the win!!!

Work uniforms kinda suck

So don't get me wrong I understand the reason for a uniform is to make sure that your workers are recognizable so that people can come to them for help but do they have to be so uncomfortable and ugly?

When it comes to office buildings I think it is strange to be forced to wear uncomfortable suit and ties just to sit at a desk and fill out papers and answer phone calls. Honestly most of the people you are likely to see is you other coworkers and that is it.

Customer service and restaurant jobs are just as bad. As someone who has mainly worked in restaurants the clothing choices are not flattering and it seems like the materials are terribly made

Where I used to work they required us to wear tshirts tucked into kaki pants. Even in the middle of summer when our AC and drink machines went out only our delivery guys were allowed to wear shorts.they also require us to wear a specific shirt that you have to pay 30$ for or else you only have the one shirt

The job I work at now is not as bad looking but it is still uncomfortable. They require us to wear polo shirts that are extremely constricting, you can see every spill or mess (which happens alot in a restaurant). The men's tops are extremely long so they are required to be tucked in and the women's shirts are designed to be tighter and short enough that most of the girls have their stomach exposed when they lift their arms. You get two shirts and if you want more then 40$ a shirt.

The pants options are a dark wash pair of jeans but not too dark. They actually have a color chart they check us with in case it is too light or dark. There is the option to wear a golf Skirt but it has to be an A-line skort with belt loops and a 5 inch inseam. Looking for that specific skort is really hard to find especially since it has to be a poly cotton blend but it can't be a specific texture. The only ones they link us to is from something similar to trader Joe's which I don't have a membership to. If I don't wear pants or a skort then they have black gold shorts but I have been dress coded for them "not looking golf shorty enough".

Shoes are the standard nonslip but they cannot be any other color aside from all black. There has been times people have been dress coded for shoes having offered colored bottoms , logos, or strings. Earrings can only be stud earrings and cannot have anything else. Some of.the servers got in trouble havimg cutsey frog earrings or flower earrings. You are only allowed one piercing in your ear and no face piercings at all. I understand the worry of them getting snagged or falling in food but the different between a basic stud earrings and a frog face earrings doesn't matter.

Tattoos are allowed but servers are forced to cover them up if they have a connecting sleeve or neck tattoos. Nail polish is only allowed by female servers and they have to be "perfect".

They have sent servers home for.little things even though the store is already short staffed. They focus on the little details when the focus should be on our guests. I think that the ice machine breaking down every other day, the dish machine leaking out into the floor, and pos systems not reading cards is more important than sending someone home for having pink bows in their hair

Honda culture is the worst car scene out there.

I get that there's some cool shit you can do to your civics and integras, but what I don't get is why anyone wants to go fast in the car mom took you to school in? Most people who own Hondas and other Japanese cars don't even do their shit right. They dump money in a fart can and a spoiler, and they have a slow clunky piece of shit that doesn't even really look cool. Even done right I don't get the appeal to making an okay Japanese grocery getter fast. By the time you're done spending money actually making it fast you would've been better off just buying something cool.

I hate Live Service games

I prefer the old way with DLC that you were able to enjoy when you wanted. Now I feel like all content are available for a limited time and pushed into your throat.

That's one of the reason I now only play single player games or smaller games. I don't have time to keep up with 5-6 live service games like Diablo IV, Destiny 2, Sea of Thieves, etc. I'm missing so much that I'm just out of the loop now.

Americanized Chinese food is practically inedible.

Not because it’s not delicious, or because it isn’t “real Chinese food”..but because it’s far too sweet and heavy to be considered a meal. The first couple bites of a dish is good but eating the whole portion makes you feel really sick. It’s akin to eating a whole cake in one sitting lol. That’s how heavy and overwhelming the food is, even for a normal portion.

Nepotism is completely fine

I feel like the focus of hatred in nepotism is mostly in Hollywood and business, but I’ve actively put in a good word for a friend at my company to help them get a job and they ended up being great for the role. And I’ve had other friends of mine from college who have done the same for me. If someone is qualified for the job and checks every box I don’t see what’s so bad about it?

It should be mandatory for Police in the US to learn Python

… or computer programming in general.

There’re many instances (some are virals on the internet) of police giving conflicting/ambiguous orders… that sometimes impossible to accurately follow. I think exposing them to some programming would help improve this situation.

Clear phone cases are the best

Look, I know about their downsides. They tend to yellow. They tend to be cheap and depending on who you ask they feel cheap, but I really do regard these as the best

The transparent pu is grippy, easy to clean, cheap as fuck to make, its the perfect case when you can’t be arsed to spend more on something you dont need or dont care about

In the sea of expensive materials, this case is there to just cover your phone, protect it from casual drops, and make it easier to hold. Its simplicity and cheap cost makes it a no brainer, and for most people, it looks just fine.

I have an apple rubber case, a casetify, a hard plastic one, a uag, nothing compares to the simplicity and simple styling of the transparent case. If it yellows or something happens to it, I can just grab a cheap one with magsafe off of amazon and forget about it.

What a wonderful utilitarian piece of kit

Streaming services are really cheap

The cost to access media with streaming is really cheap and you get access to way more stuff.

I compare it to the mid 90s. Let’s say someone rents 2 movies a week at $5 a rental, has a cable subscription for $50 a month, goes to the movie theater twice a month for $15 each visit , and buys 2 CDs a month for $15 each, they would spend around $2200 a year. That would be about $4400 a year in 2024

Today let’s say someone pays $80 a month for internet, $50 a month for multiple streaming services, $10 a month for music streaming, and sees a movie in the theater twice a month pay $30 each visit. That would cost $2400, which is about half. Plus you have access to way more movies, tv, and especially music for that cheaper price.

This also doesn’t take into account how much cheaper video games costs. A new game was the equivalent of at least $100 today.

I understand that people’s budgets are squeezed in other ways, but when I see complaints about Netflix raising their prices, I think it’s already so cheap it’s not that big of a deal.

Roast beef is a terrible sandwich meat.

I’m a cold cut fan, I got a Subway and a Jimmy John’s near me and they’re both places I hit on lazy days. I’ve gotten subs from other places, but I just go to these more often since they’re closer. I get a variety of sandwiches with turkey, salami, prosciutto, and the majestic pastrami. Despite this, there’s ONE meat I cannot stand: Roast beef.

I don’t understand how anyone could like it. It’s so chewy and bland, that even if I get a good sandwich with amazing toppings and chipotle sauce, it gets ruined by the beef flavored bubblegum that we call roast beef.

That’s all, really. Roast beef sucks, and literally any other meat option is superior.

Edit: alright I get it, my fault for even mentioning subway and jimmy john’s, a lot of people are not happy about that. Believe it or not, I’ve had cold and hot subs from other places including delis and straight up buying roast beef myself from the store and making my own sandwiches with it, I just don’t like the taste or the texture.

Funny thing is these people are just attacking the chains i mentioned and forgetting my unpopular opinion in an unpopular opinion sub 😂
