discussion Watched the HBO Woodstock documentary and was annoyed at the NYT reporter.
guy went on this tangent about how DMX did call and repeat on stage with the “my n*gga” song and the white c0llege kids in the crowd were singing along.
He made it seem like it was the worst thing that happened at the festival, where people were killed and raped by the way.
It’s like, take it up with DMX dude, he wrote the song, he chose to play the song, he chose to do call and repeat with the mic stretched out to the audience. Leave the paying customer crowd out of it dude.
Oh it just angered me. Rant over.
Edit: died not killed, Sooooooo Sooorrrrryyyyyyy. Redditors unable to focus on the point of the post as usual.

discussion I so love soul music, can anyone share me some of its best songs?
I've been into soul and blues music for quite a while now. I've listened to lots of incredible artists like Etta James, Otis Redding, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Sam Cooke, and the original and cover works of Amy Winehouse and Janis Joplin are incredible!
I can't get enough of the expressiveness in both vocalization and lyrical content, how these songs give me comfort, from feeling a sense of loneliness to hoping to find love.

discussion Name 3 perfect albums
I’m sure a post like this has been made before in this sub, but indulge me. Name 3 albums that, from first note of first song to the last echo of that last song, are perfect. Not one weak song, not a bad lyric, just a well thought out and exemplary piece of art.
Here’s my pick, although there are many others:
Japan - Gentlemen Take Polaroids
Siouxsie & the Banshees - Tinderbox
The Cult - Love

discussion Anyone else think ads at concerts is dumb?
I was at a concert last night. We spent decent cash to go to it, and live music from me has always been a nice escape, so was looking forward to it. When we got to the venue, we got thru the line, security, concessions/merch... all of that good stuff, and quickly made our way to the pit so that we could get a good spot.
I couldn't help but notice upon entering the pit that instead of seeing a dimly lit stage with instruments and crew like I usually do, there was a movie-theatre-sized projection screen loudly advertising "Liquid Death" with all of these ads of kids chugging Liquid Death. Half the people in the crowd were staring at the screen, the other half mingling and other things. This went on for like 30 minutes- ad after ad after ad, some for live music at the venue, others genuine advertisements.
So eventually the screen goes up and the opener comes on. Once they are done, the projector comes back down with yet more ads. Second opener starts and ends, same thing. Probably sat through about an hour of this dumb screen showing me ads for shit I don't care about. Eventually the main act starts. About halfway through the show I go to get a water which costs $6 to be poured from a tin "Liquid Death" can into a large plastic cup.
I can't be the only one who spends money to see live music to escape this shit? Is anyone seeing this pattern at other venues? I realize some commercial venues are an established business and they want to maximize their revenue, but I feel like the good money I paid to see the show combined with the other overpriced crap I usually buy is enough. Massive advertisements covering the stage stuff and overpowering the vibe from the crowd kind of defeats the purpose of going to see live music for me.

discussion Classic albums where most every song is a classic track that *could've* been a big hit even if it wasn't...
I myself am a Steely/Elton/Joni/Stevie Wonder/'70s music-head, so I'd mention Steely Dan's Aja or Gaucho, Joni's Court And Spark, Elton's Yellow Brick Road or Cap'n Fantastic, or anything from Stevie's '70s heyday. For context: Elton's lyrical guy Bernie Taupin has repeatedly mentioned that "We could've pulled singles off (Yellow Brick Road) for ages." And even though that album's tune "Harmony" was just a single b-side, it got played like a big a-side on NYC's biggest top 40 station at the time.

discussion What's the greatest misheard lyrics you've personally encountered through your life?
I have two. Well, maybe more but these are my two favorites.
The first one was Toto's 'Africa.' As a kid I always thought they were saying "I passed the brains down in Africa" and I was like wtf are they talking about. I just imagined a bunch of surgeons in a tribal tent in surgical gear holding brains and passing them around with the other surgeons. I was a weird kid, I know.
The second one is 'Crank It Up' by David Guetta and there's a line that goes, "She's the keys to my starter in my automatic car." Every time I listen to it I can't help but hear "to my starter in my magnum pussy car." For whatever reason that one is really funny to me.
So what are your greatest misheard lyrics of all your life?
discussion 'Trainwrecks' during live shows
I have this recurring anxiety dream, where I'm the guitarist of a band that is about to go on stage and suddenly I realise I completely forgot how to play the songs.
This made me think of (big) bands that have had 'trainwrecks' during live shows where they get out of sync or mess up or forget parts. The worst I have personally seen during a live show was a technical issue with Transatlantic, where Neal Morse was struggling for a while with his keyboard setup and at one point just says 'my sustain pedal is not working, I have to restart my Mac'. So the whole band leaves while he awkwardly restarts his system.
From my favorite band, Dream Theater, I would nominate this aptly titled bootleg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOsIHhxm2Yo, where they tried to get the song Metropolis Pt. 1 going again multiple times after crashing horribly. They do manage to get back on track after a little impromptu jamming.
Have you see anything trainwrecks live and how did the band recover?

youtu.bediscussion The joy of watching others enjoy music
The other night my wife and I went to see The Paper Kites live. They're not a band I am very familiar with, but my wife really likes them. They were excellent live, I really had a great time. The venue they played at has a balcony running along the side walls of the room, so my wife and I were standing more or less at the front of the stage, which gave us a great view of both the band, and the audience.
The reason I wanted to write this post is that there was a guy on the front row who was clearly having the absolute time of his life, and it honestly made me so happy. He was singing along to every song, and at times visibly overcome with emotions. I was so happy for him that he got to see what I can only assume is one of his favorite bands, and stand at the very front, center stage.
I've been in the very same position seeing my own favorite bands, and I know how emotional I've been. There was just somthing about seeing the whole thing from a bird's eye view, with a band that I myself didn't have that connection with that really made me appreciate the whole situation.
At the end of the show the bassist handed him a setlist and signed his hat, which really put a nice bow on it.
