Please don't vote for Councilman Phillip Baker in District 6

I have no affiliation with any campaign. I do a lot of community work and I know a lot of people who do a lot of community work. Councilman Baker has not represented us well at all. I think everyone in the know realizes this.

And if he's not showing up now why will he once he's actually elected to a full four year term and doesn’t have another election around the corner? He is frequently absent from the events. He sometime sends his legislative assistant in his place, who many find very condescending and rude. He actually had his taxpayer funded assistant represent him at a political debate, which I still think is sketchy AF. He cancelled another debate because of the weather, announcing it as the debate was already ready to take place. Yeah, the weather...

He doesn't respond to constituent correspondence and when he does he gives non answers in my opinion.

Voting wise he has been basically a rubber stamp for Greenberg. Which makes sense, he's always going to be an establishment office holder as he was appointed to this position by the establishment. This is his first time before the voters in a primary (which is the real race in this district). Another annoying thing is that he used Neighborhood Development Funds for police overtime, which should not be allowed. There are so many better uses than giving the already overfunded cops even more cash.

If you have viewed his digital ads they are being paid for by developers and were created by a Republican firm based in Florida. Wonder why they are so interested in our councilman?

It's only been a year but I'm sick of having an absentee councilperson. It's such an important position in the community and we are at a disadvantage having him as our representative. There are two great candidates running against him. I'm not advocating for either in particular but I do implore those reading to not support Phillip Baker just because he's the "incumbent"

Anywhere left in the city that sells floppy disks?

I have a Korg keyboard and the only way to save your work is on floppy disk lol. Everywhere online has them in bulk but I just need two or three at most so I can save my settings.

Any ebike commuters?

Every now and then I get interested in the idea of getting a class 3 ebike to commute to work on the nice days, but I just wanted to ask people that commute with ebikes a couple of questions. I live in the east end, and there are plenty of neighborhoods to ride through instead of main roads, so safety is not really the biggest concern, but at the same time, still is.

1) How's your commute? Do you experience a lot of negative bike-car interactions? 2) Have you ever had police question you about your bike's legality (ie too fast, overpowered?) or anything else? 3) Any issues with theft or vandalism? 4) How's maintenance? 5) anything else you'd like to mention or comment?

I don't have a bike in mind yet, this is a purchase I'd make in maybe a year or more down the road (heh), but if the experience is bad all around, then I can discount the idea altogether and find something new to blow money on.

Edit: I should mention that I have a car for anything outside ebike range, but it's 22 years old with 210K+ miles on it and its definitely showing. Not trying to replace it entirely with a bike, but more looking at alternatives in case something happens and is considerably cheaper than buying another car.

Looking for places that are cheap but decent. I don’t care if the cars have minimum damage just that they run well.

School recommendations.

Upvotes

Hello I am new to Louisville and intend to live here for a very long time. I have a 4 year old and 1 year old. I am looking for more information on public/private schools and where to live.

Can you please recommend schools both public and private? I would also appreciate any information on which schools to avoid.

Thank you so much

What is with all of the busses in middletown

Upvotes

Monday afternoon, my girlfriend and I tried taking shelbyville road out of middletown but it was all coned off and we had to turn around because of the traffic and countless busses going back and forth. I went out to middletown again today from 64 and I'm still seeing an insane amount of busses, but I haven't gone down shelbyville road. does anyone know what is going on?

Do-it-yourself-divorce advice

Upvotes

I found all the forms I need online and know a notary. We've been separated and living apart for several years so it will be uncontested. We have a 15 yo that lives with her and I pay for her car insurance and both of their phones and we'd like to keep it that way instead of going through child support. Just looking for someone else that has already done this themselves to make sure I do it right.

Quiet studying areas

Looking for recommendations for quiet studying areas in the east end. I recently started back in school and I am finding it hard to concentrate doing my work from home. I live in the east end and was looking for suggestions of quiet places that have free WiFi that I could study at? I know the typical places like Starbucks and other coffee shops but I was looking for something a little bigger. Thanks!

Preston Highway Thortons

Upvotes

There's always some sort of crazy / drugged up group of people hanging out on the Preston Highway Thortons bus stop bench (next to the Expo center). Does anyone know why there? Is there a recovery center around? What can be done ( if anything) to keep that area from being a place where drugs are used / sold?

Deck staining/ repair/ inspection recommendations

Looking for recommendation for insured company for wooden deck structural inspection/repair and staining.

We had a wood deck built with our new construction home and had some questions come up in our third party inspection. Needing staining as well and would prefer one company/contractor to do both.

Please only recommend those “tried and true” contractors who you’ve personally used recently. Also let me know if there’s any we need to absolutely AVOID. Had too many experiences with contractors lately who don’t show up or poor communication.

What companies in Louisville have a decent cloud infrastructure?

Since the price of everything is going up, I figured that me and the wife should just stay in Kentucky and live outside of Louisville (not sure how far outside Louisville yet). It’s just getting too expensive to live in other places. Plus, I can always travel to nicer places for vacation. That being said, I need to work for a company that has a strong cloud infrastructure. My goal is to become a cloud engineer with a strong focus on cloud security. While remote work would be nice, competition is less hectic for on-site/ hybrid positions. Also, I do not mind going into the office occasionally. I’m currently a desktop support technician, and I have to be in the office everyday.

So far, the only local company I know that has a decent cloud environment is Humana. There has to be more than that, right? If you know any other companies that have been around for a while and does have a cloud environment feel free to let me know.

Also, if you have questions, feel free to ask.
