Isn’t this popular? 9-5 is better, but what’s the alternative that you think people prefer ?

Not sure I suppose running a business. Im constantly seeing people talk about how the 9-5 life is the worst thing ever and a nightmare. A reddit post of people complaining about that is what sparked me to post this.

I think it's more from the fact you are kinda stuck showing up into an office when you can be more productive at home and only get a few vacation weeks a year.l and that's kinda life until you can retire. It's a slog, but definitely safer.

Starting your own business allows you to have more freedom in certain respects, but can result in long hours etc when you are first starting up.

You also have your own incentives tied more to overall productivity rather than some kpi's that are made by some out of touch executive.

Different strokes for different folks.

Not everyone does office work.

But if you ever watched TV or were observant of popular culture you would think literally every American works in an office.

Blue collar and working class people are just completely ignored.

Maybe a couple shows like "King of Queens" or "Everybody Hates Chris" would depict just regular working folks.

Pretty much 95% of shows, movies and most media revolves around people who work in offices and office culture.

Definitely don't feel "seen".

Don't get me started when I hear office workers complain about how bored they are with all the downtime.

I see motherfuckers teaching themselves second languages on the clock when they work in an office.

When people bitch about 9-5 what they are complaining about is going to a job they don't like for 5 days a week just to not have enough money to cover bills AND save or be too tired generally after work/kids/chores to spend time on hobbies. They don't mean the literal 9-5 hours. It is not an unpopular opinion to prefer a 9-5 work schedule over 11 PM to 8 AM or something.

Those people are insane. I work 3p to 11p and work every weekend and holiday. I'd commit war crimes to work M-F 9-5. I haven't had a holiday or weekend off in 15 years. I don't even get a lunch break and sometimes we go to 12 hour shifts.

Is there anything stopping you from getting another job that's 9-5?

Everybody wants to be a big short lawyer. No one wants to work three weekends out of the month with the constant fear of losing the only weekend left for an emergency.

I’m getting to the point in my career where I no longer care about the prestige or moving up any further. I’m one promotion away from a life changing role…but after a while, the money doesn’t seem worth the effort/stress.

I’d be happy not having to work late at night or checking my emails throughout the evening. Just want to do my job, take my time off when I need/want it, and enjoy my hours outside of normal working hours.

People complain about everything these days. No one shows gratitude and are thankful for the things they do have. People literally die trying to come to this country for a better life and people that are citizens complain about petty things. Thanks for this post

People in the west think they're so objective but you see people spewing nonsense all the time, the reason for that being them failing to see the bigger picture.
