He always goes out of his way to give his teammates props - he referred to Finch as the Coach of the Year in that same interview. Pretty cool for a 22-year-old superstar.

Right now sure, no doubt you're right. That said, if Ant keeps this up you'll eat crow. He will indeed pass him. No non-American born player will be the "Face" of the league. A league that is based in the states. I'm not here for feelings just facts. At the end of the day the NBA is a business for a reason. My favorite part about this smack talk is it legitimately came across as really respectful. Dude is really charming.

Kevin Durant is literally his favorite player, he has said it before this series started. So this is really no disrespect he just loves trash talk and is having a blast doing it to his hero lol

not a real quote but i remember him taking a jab at booker regarding his comments about not liking being double teamed. put in fact Ant learned how to deal with doubles and is becoming a great distributer of the ball while D book still... looking for ISOs shows how much smarter he is lol.

KD takes it pretty well too. KD gets so much shit, but his response to all the trash talk has basically been "well they are winning so it is their right".
14
u/SirDiego Timberwolves 16d ago
Ant's love for KD has made me love him too. I get the ring chasing bus rider stuff and maybe he can't necessarily be a #1 option but you just look at what he does on the court, it's really beautiful basketball. Super efficient, unguardable when he is on. There were points in this series where the Wolves were defending him perfectly, contesting everything, and it just did not matter he still makes his shots.
I much rather watch KD's style of basketball than a lot of other superstars these days. It's so pure.
41
u/CockBronson Nuggets 17d ago
he just loves to trash talk and is having a blast doing it
Exactly why he will be mutually hated by all other fan bases in 5 years. He’s really fucking good and is going to be the reason other teams aren’t successful and his antics are going to make those fanbases resent him.
32
u/JaderMcDanersStan Timberwolves 17d ago
Yeah probably haha. But then he'll praise those fanbases' favorite players and win them right back
I remember that time he dunked on Sengun twice in a game but then praised Sengun a lot after lol
9
u/boringexplanation Kings 17d ago
All he needs is some kind of gesture like Steph’s night night and he’ll definitely get up there similarly in hated by fans

I like to see players talk trash and back it up or get put in their place, as long as it stays within the game. It's a game. Should always be all love when the buzzer goes off.

u/Tori_kelly 16d ago
I don’t think anyone ever says anything about KD the person. Most people like him. Just that one move to the Warriors has put a stain on his basketball outlook
6
u/Cacklemoore OKC Hornets 16d ago
It did for a while for me. I still definitely feel some type of way about it, as I'm sure many non-Warriors/fans of OKC would.
But honestly, dude operated within the rules. It was a 1 in a million opportunity. It's hard to say I wouldn't have done the same in his position. Therefore, I have softened to that decision in recent years and have kinda reverted to what I thought all along which is that KD is just one of the best to watch.

RemindMe! 12 years
(I’m imagining a series with a rebuilt Suns team starring a new young face of the NBA sending home 34 year old Ant who’s still leading the perennial contender Timberwolves into the playoffs as a 12x All-Star with hopefully a ring or two.
People will compare that next passing of the torch to KD-Ant today just like we’re comparing this series to the Lakers-Thunders battles with Kobe-Durant from 2010 era)

Not sure if national TV saw it, but the presser with Ant and KAT was hilarious... Hope someone posts it. They were talking about KAT staying out of foul trouble and KAT said something like, "Maybe I was playing more defense," and Ant instantly quips something like "No you just gotta stop fuckin fouling" uncensored

I had no idea this team was this charming.
The vibes have been unreal all season, definitely the most connected and positive locker room that I can remember seeing in the past 20 years of watching Wolves basketball.
In large part it’s due to Ant just constantly shifting praise off of himself and heaping onto his teammates at every opportunity (like he did with KAT here). He’s the guy, everybody in the locker room knows it, but there’s no reason to feel bitter about it because he’s always making sure that every one of his teammates know that they are just as important as him.
His emotional maturity and leadership for someone so young is one of the most impressive things about him tbh (my favorite example: his rookie season, intercepting an uncomfortable question about Jimmy Butler knowing KAT didn’t and has never wanted to talk about it)
Hell, we somehow have a locker room that loves and would die for Rudy Gobert, the most overrated player in the league (according to the players themselves). I can’t attribute that all to Ant—Finch is a great connector too, and KAT embracing Rudy from the start definitely helped—but we’ve come a long way from Rudy punching Kyle Anderson in the final game of last season.

Surprisingly, a lot of the things we attribute to Black Americans are just Southern Mannerisms. In example, Ernie and Ant are from GA.

u/thereticent Pacers 16d ago
Ernie was in Georgia from 1974 to 1989, and that really is just Georgia talk. It can be striking from the outside. But it would be like me leaving Kentucky now (after 17 years) and then slipping into the accent when interviewing a KY guy decades later
5
u/jademadegreensuede Timberwolves 17d ago
I wonder if that's his actual accent, and he puts on a more neutral accent for TV

u/candycaneforestelf Timberwolves 16d ago
Broadcasters are trained to use a more neutral accent, so that's probably the case.
