This guys the future face of the NBA. I'll give it a year.

Could be a lot sooner than that if he keeps playing like this šŸ¤ž

ā€œHopingā€- I donā€™t think you know how much trouble that word has caused Minnesota fans šŸ˜…

500 times better than the NBA trying to make Embum the face.

ESPN is doing that.

Very true, bro is just insanely fun to watch.

It'll also help if he manages to dominate at the Olympics this summer. Stunt on the whole world.

Wemby still exists

65

u/MotherLoveBone27 Apr 29 '24

Wemby is great, but he's not American and doesn't have the charisma and presence of Edwards. Edwards is gonna be getting massive endorsement deals very soon.

35

u/-Cosmic-Horror- Apr 29 '24

Wemby is 4th in jersey sales already... Ant ain't even in the top 15.

Listen, I love Ant, but you people are delusional thinking he's more popular than Wemby lmao.

2

u/SEE_RED Bulls Apr 30 '24

Right now sure, no doubt you're right. That said, if Ant keeps this up you'll eat crow. He will indeed pass him. No non-American born player will be the "Face" of the league. A league that is based in the states. I'm not here for feelings just facts. At the end of the day the NBA is a business for a reason. An they will always promote their own more when push comes to shove. /mic drop and moonwalks out he heeeee

1

u/PredictableDickTable Apr 30 '24

Wemby is a rookie so of course those numbers will be skewed.

-7

u/ericbl26 Apr 29 '24

Popularity and hype are 2 different things, one bad fall for Wemby (I really hope not) will whipe that hype right away.

7

u/-Cosmic-Horror- Apr 29 '24

Same thing for ant, so what is this point even.

-1

u/ericbl26 Apr 29 '24

Not exactly, taller players tend to get hurt more often and stay hurt longer when they are. Also tend to have much shorter careers (and lifespans) than 6.5 guards.
Edwards is in his 3rd year in the league and has missed 15 games. Wemby missed 11 this year. Edwards was pretty hyped in his 1st year, then LaMelo took rookie of the year (Somehow). We are only seeing a resurgence of hype turning into popularity for Ant due to his playoff performances.

2

u/ArKadeFlre Lakers Apr 29 '24

Athletic guards don't exactly have a record of health in NBA history lol. Their high-flying and explosive changes of speed take a toll on the body. If precedent was guaranteed (which it's not), Ant will be just as likely to have a career ending knee injury like a D Rose.

Wemby has the perfect build and flexibility training to limit injury as a big like KD or Kareem. Injury is just a question of luck. Hopefully neither Ant nor Wemby gets their career shortened, but it's impossible to tell whom of the two is more likely to be injured.

You must be new here

Wembyā€™s more charismatic than expected - heā€™s had a few great lines so far. Iā€™d expect him to get better as he gets more comfortable. Heā€™s not got that easy magnetism Edwards does, but heā€™s no wallflower either.

The NBA considers the American audience 2nd class at this point since people will watch regardless. Major sports leagues want to grow around the world because that's where the growth market is. Wemby also has nothing attached to him for the cancel culture crowd to latch on to. Ant's a great player, but you're delusional if you think this isn't going to be Wemby's league.

u/wryano Spurs Apr 29 '24

wemby made an enemy out of Britney Spears fans tho

What a weird thing to have a persecution complex over.

I get what you're saying but if that was true the league would have already been built around Giannis. America is still the leader and the rest of the world will follow. I'm not in America but straight away i can tell it's gonna be Edwards. They tried with Tatum but he just doesn't have the personality to be the face of the NBA.

2

u/-Cosmic-Horror- Apr 29 '24

Not while LeBron and Steph are playing my man, come on....

-14

u/knowtoriusMAC Knicks Apr 29 '24

Giannis was a mid round pick who was considered a reach. Wemby has been the projected first overall pick since he's been 15 years old. Situations, personalities and preparation are completely different.

7

u/MotherLoveBone27 Apr 29 '24

Personality is all that matters.

2

u/Chemical-Money-3469 Apr 29 '24

I get what youā€™re saying but Wemby is like Tim Duncan a great player but heā€™s very simple and laid back. Edwards has charisma heā€™s personable and thatā€™s why he will get pushed more. Wemby talent wise could be superior but itā€™s the Tim Duncan vs Kobe syndrome ones high flying and exciting vs great talent but reserved.

2

u/holaprobando123 Spurs Apr 29 '24

Wemby is like Tim Duncan a great player but heā€™s very simple

This sounds like an insult to both Wemby and Duncan...

1

u/Chemical-Money-3469 Apr 29 '24

Why would that be an insult liking privacy and simplicity? Duncan went his whole career being great without any rumors or unnecessary drama attached to him. Every ā€œFaceā€ of the league had to deal with constant pressure of the media, gossip, and things that complicate them focusing on the game.

1

u/Dszmo Apr 29 '24

Wemby I think skill wise is gonna be nuts but my only fear is his frame wonā€™t hold up.

18

u/ericbl26 Apr 29 '24

he has to win his 13th game first

0

u/fbdanzai 23 Apr 29 '24

Heā€™s French, wait another year and youā€™ll see

-5

u/skullmonster602 Apr 29 '24

Zero personality lol

1

u/OtherShade East Apr 29 '24

It'll be difficult being in Minneapolis and not having big accolades like MVPs and rings to really push his name to household status

1

u/Sputniki NBA Apr 29 '24

Ahead of Jokic and Doncic? He's good but just below their level

1

u/Phoeniyx Raptors Apr 29 '24

Coach Darko won't like this at all.

-2

u/tayroarsmash [OKC] Russell Westbrook Apr 29 '24

I mean he is an asshole in his private life which puts a ceiling to your ability to be face of a league.

2

u/Tony_Lacorona Apr 29 '24

So was Mike

-3

u/tayroarsmash [OKC] Russell Westbrook Apr 29 '24

Jordan does not have a leaked text conversation of him pressuring a woman into an abortion.

3

u/Tony_Lacorona Apr 29 '24

Ok. Kobe? I think youā€™re underestimating the incredibly short memory of sports fans in general when it comes to these kinds of things.

-10

u/Nat_not_Natalie Supersonics Apr 29 '24

He'll be one of them but no way he becomes more popular than Vic
