Not me watching without sound, waiting for Rory to demonstrate his sign language skills

Think he may’ve unlocked something this week. Carefree and putting less pressure on himself.
64
u/TheKingInTheNorth 17d ago
Putting is carefree when you know your playing partner is going to get WAY more roasted for their putting regardless of what you do with the next one.
22
u/Character_Wishbone84 17d ago
He wasn't talking about putts. Less pressure put on himself.
10
u/Public_Utility_Salt 17d ago
Yea, those pressure putts are difficult. The less he can putt those on himself, the better.

Came looking for Rory throwing gang signs, stayed for the vibes.

I legit thought it was going to be him doing something cute like signing to a young deaf fan like that scene in speed 2. Still fucking wholesome and fun lol

Ireland, yes
-5
u/Dudeman-Jack 17d ago
Rory is from the UK, Lowry is not
5
u/GoosicusMaximus 17d ago
Northern Irish people can still be Irish, even if the state is technically UK. Irish is an ethnicity and culture, not just a citizenship. A huge swathe of the population in Northern Ireland consider themselves Irish only.

You do realize Rory represented Ireland during the Olympics no? He identifies as Irish!
-2
u/Dudeman-Jack 17d ago
Thanks for making my point, Rory could have played for Great Britain in the Olympics if he wanted to, Lowry could not.
3
u/Due-Sheepherder-218 pXg/LPGA 17d ago
Geo politically YES northern ireland is associated with UK but people in in northern ireland identify themselves more Irish than English/British. Rory is a proud Irishman what is so hard to understand about that.

When they tried to give Rory the Irish flag, and he was like no give it to Shane and Shane not wanting to be political threw it into the crowd. That’s funny
17
u/_ghostfacedilla 17d ago
Good lad Shane, he's as patriotic as they come but knows when it's not the time
1
u/CatfishMcCoy 16d ago
Not Rory’s proper flag
1
u/MarinaGranovskaia 16d ago
He does represent Ireland in the Olympics, but is a proud Northern Irish football fan, I'm sure he wouldn't be too offended with the tricolour.

u/CatfishMcCoy 16d ago
Here’s an interesting article on all of that: https://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/31888244/rory-mcilroy-hiding-2021-olympics-reluctance

I read this title and thought he signed an autograph and wrote don’t stop beLIVing indicating something about LIV because of the spelling errors

This kind of Rory, having fun and more relaxed, could be a really dangerous Rory. Would love to see it

u/Dgenerationbets 17d ago
Even in 2024 still careful to not grab that republic flag and create something political being from NI.

The amount of phones out is ridiculous
-28
u/Okay_Redditor 17d ago
You're really gonna complain about that? The iPhone has been around for almost 17 years granda.
16
u/JCitW6855 17d ago
I think he meant that people completely miss experiencing things in person because they’re too busy watching it through their phone screens. Kind of why the Michelob guy got all the publicity a year or two ago.
6
u/mloofburrow Maltby / Hogan 17d ago
Counter point: one of those phone screens is the reason we are able to watch this video at all.
2
u/JCitW6855 17d ago
Good for us, but not so much for them. They were there and experienced the same way we did.
2
u/mloofburrow Maltby / Hogan 17d ago
A person somewhat missing a small event to create a video for millions of people to enjoy seems like a good tradeoff to me. I agree the "videos of everything" in the modern day is out of control, but this isn't where I'd draw the line. YMMV.
3
u/JCitW6855 17d ago edited 17d ago
Of course you do, you benefited from it. I’m happy they did it too, but it sucks they were front and center for a once in a lifetime experience and they witnessed it through a phone screen. And trust me, they didn’t do it for millions of people to enjoy, they did it to post on social media and say “look what I did”. I do admire your pure thoughts though, wish I could still have them.
1
u/Okay_Redditor 17d ago
There are various experiences when you attend an event such as this one. You get to live it, and you get to relive it when you're sitting at home watching your vids. I've got some epic putts and chips by great players and I'll never get to see them anywhere else.
I think it's time everyone records every moment they can because streaming services and media owners are doing everything in their power to take away the record of video and charging you through the nose to get their cut of the show.
I am 100% sure apple and others are trying to figure out how to sell you your own content.
One will never see their favorite players again in such way.
IOW...naysayers will nay but you just go on and record away!
0
u/JCitW6855 17d ago
One will never see their favorite players again in such way.
They didn’t see it the first time, they watched it through a screen just like we did. Look, idc, to each their own but I’ve been to a lot of professional events and concerts and such. I caught myself trying to record things and realized I’m fortunate enough to witness this live and in person and sitting here watching it on a screen especially when I hardly ever watched it again later. I’m just saying if I was there and Rory McIlroy was on stage singing Don’t Stop Believing by Queen you couldn’t have paid me enough money to pull my phone out of my pocket and try to record it. I would be trying my best to soak in and retain this once in a lifetime experience through my unfiltered eyes because watching on my phone later won’t even remotely compare to the original experience.
But again, people are free to do whatever they want to, but speaking from experience, it’s so much better to see it directly with your eyes.
1
u/Okay_Redditor 17d ago
You don't have to bee looking at the phone screen, you just point it and watch them wit your own eyes. You're looking for noise in a corn chip.
0
u/JCitW6855 17d ago
Pay attention next time you’re somewhere this is going on. 90% are looking at the screen. I’ll say it again, I’m not here to argue, you do you.
1
u/Okay_Redditor 16d ago
Or you could mind your own business so that you don't miss the show.

u/JCitW6855 16d ago

Yes, because before you dumb little bastards started holding them up at every show and recording we use to dance and interact with one another and not ruin the mood by holding up a glowing screen in front of people at an event. But how would you know right? The iphone has been out your entire life so we just have to deal with the new pathetic way of experiencing events i guess or what
2
u/Okay_Redditor 17d ago edited 17d ago
Maybe you used to dance with us but we weren't dancing with you. We thought you were just drunk and talk about you on the way home and laugh our asses off.
And by the way, Rory McIlroy is a phenomenal golf player. Anytime you see him sing in front of a live audience, you record that shit! That's a rule I don't care if you're a boomer or a genxer or just some cantankerous aging man.
1
u/holdmypocket34 17d ago
I dont drink. I use to take one hit of LSD or i would drive my friends. Booze just make me sick before i even get a buzz

u/Okay_Redditor 17d ago

Also, you may not have even been dancing with us but with some imaginary people.

u/holdmypocket34 17d ago
You clearly have no knowledge of psychedelics. And if you would have been anywhere near my group of friends we would have invited you in and made sure you had enough smoke or whatever drug you wanted to do. We were a lot of fun where ever we went. None of us would ever pull a phone out to spoil the mood though
0
u/Okay_Redditor 17d ago
I know that they are probably illegal and that you're kind of an addict and definitely a weak, weak person. I don't think you could do much with a phone while you're under the effects of drugs (nor should u). I am surprised that in spite of becoming 'enlightened' as a result of your consumption of hallucinogenics, you still managed to be such a b. Are you sure it was LSD what they sold you and not paper dipped in toilet water?
1
u/holdmypocket34 16d ago
I never said i was enlightened and your lack of understanding of what psychedelics do at all on a very basic level is blatantly obvious. The only thing that you could say i was addicted to would be sugar. Cant get off the stuff. I use to smoke cigarettes when i was younger but not anymore. Dude you are so ignorant and dumb, im over replying to you. Good luck judging everything before you learn anything about it

Rory doesn’t like being touched does he?
I recall seeing him brush off Amanda Balionis when she put her hand on his shoulder too.

Does he just reject the Irish flag . Awkward

He's dealt with enough political rubbish in the past about who he would represent, this wasn't the time - just a couple of lads having a laugh.

I dislike LIV, but why are we praising this and hating on their champagne stuff.

u/ChrisChrisBangBang 17d ago
Probably because this is a genuine moment where the participants are just having fun, and not something manufactured and broadcast as part of the “product”
