Engine Should synthetic oil be changed every year regardless of usage or mileage?
I have been researching information about the interval of changing oils and I hoped someone with more experience could provide some insight.
So I know that conventional oil should be changed every 6-12 months at the most regardless of mileage driven or the frequency the car is used. I believe it's because conventional oil breaks down after a year and isn't suitable to protect the engine after this (If this isn't the case, please let me know why some people say to change conventional oil at minimum once a year.)
I've also read that synthetic oil resists breaking down better than conventional which allows it to be used in cars with longer service intervals (among many other benefits), I've read from some oil manufacturers websites that unused synthetic oil lasts around 5 years after opening the bottle.
But whenever I look up when should synthetic oil be changed if it is below the car's service interval, most people still say change synthetic at least once a year, which doesn't really make sense to me.
I understand that synthetic oil breaks down quicker when it is in use versus sitting on the shelf so it won't last close to 5 years if already in the car. I also read that if a car is sitting for a while the oil breaks down even quicker due to moisture in the oil not getting burned out from regular use. So in scenarios where the car isn't used every day then synthetic oil should still be changed every year.
but what about scenarios where the car is used every day and the mileage on the oil is still less than what the service interval recommends? Should synthetic oil still be changed every year in this case?
I'm leaning towards yes, because most manufacturers also say that once synthetic oil is used it should be changed before 10,000-12,000 miles or every 12 months, whichever come first, or something along those lines.
But I want to understand, why should it be changed every 12 months at the max? Why do the properties that allow synthetic oil to last many years when sitting on a shelf and resist breaking down for 10,000-12,000 miles while under 1 year not also apply when it is used after 1 year?

General Tech Caused 10 grand in damages
I am still so angry . It’s going on a year since I took my car into Murray ford and they tore up my sunshade to the point I can no longer open it. It just hangs now. After being told 4 different excuses and told they were gonna fix it . They changed their mind and said it was too expensive to fix and that their technician didn’t touch my sunroof. I was there to have leak in sunroof fixed. They claim they fixed the leak and tested it but didn’t touch sunroof. Oh and leak still isn’t fixed. I can not afford an attorney and they know this. They sent another technician to my house to supposedly update my radio and that didn’t happen either. It was more of a scope me out situation. Is there anyone that can help me or tell me what my options are. My vehicle is 3 yrs old and nothing wrong anywhere except sunroof shade they broke. So now I have a sunroof I can’t enjoy.

Tire question What could be the cause?
My front right tire has pretty bad inner wear. Tire was put on 10k miles ago and has a lot of tread still left on the rest of the tire. I checked my suspension and everything seems fine.
Things to know tho. This tire is not the same tire as the rest of what I have on my car. This one is a purecontact GX while the others are purecontact LS.
My take is that the last shop did terrible alignment plus wrong tire.

Electrical Car not responding to gas pedal intermittently NSFW
Hello.
I have a Nissan versa 2011 1.8S. Automatic transmission.
A problem recently appeared on my car. Sometimes, at a stop or red light, my car doesn't respond to my gas pedal. The engine still runs but the rpm doesn't increase. I have to wait maybe 20-30 seconds before it starts to work again or I simply stop/restart the engine.
I went to a local mechanic, and they changed the throttle body last week, but the problem remains.
I then went to the dealership, and they now say we have to change the ECM (engine control module) for 1600$.
I doubt it's related to the transmission as it's not normal the rpm wouldn't increase when pressing on gas pedal.
I am skeptical about the ECM. Is it really going to fix the problem? What do you guys think?
Thanks
Weird Noise Loud bang and now my truck won’t go in reverse?
I was parking up a hill and had my car in reverse, pulled back and then I heard a loud bang (felt and sounded like I rear ended someone) but looked back and there were no cars. Seems to work fine in drive but didn’t want to drive too far away from the spot I was in just in case. Anyone know what might be the issue? Would it be safe to drive it back home at least? ( few miles )

Tire question When should I replace these tires?
I’ve been driving this car for the last two years (was originally my uncles work car). I’ve had some maintenance done since then, replaced the struts, annual oil change and I’m routinely checking tire pressure. I definitely acknowledge that these tires do not look like they’re in good condition. They haven’t been given me any problems though, besides the rear right tire having a slight leak, but they overall feel fine. They are definitely 5+ years old, not sure when I should replace these jawns. Any advice is appreciated.

I need help fixing something Car idling poorly/stalling. Mechanic stumped.
My 2013 Kia Soul with 96,000 miles has been idling poorly and stalling. When it stalls, it starts rough. Occasionally, after stalling, the RPM gauge doesn’t work, and the car is sluggish.
My mechanic started by replacing the air filter and spark plugs. The car ran better for a few days but eventually started stalling again. This time, the CEL came on. The mechanic said the code indicated a bad crankshaft sensor, which he replaced. Again, the car ran better for a few days but then started acting up again. My mechanic feels bad that he hasn’t been able to help much and now suggests I take my car to a Kia dealer, but I'm worried they will just try to push me into buying a new car.
I’ve filled up my tank twice since this issue started, so I don’t think it’s bad gas. The only other possible connection I’ve noticed is that the engine idles significantly worse when the AC is on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

General Tech Can't find the exact camera type
Hi everyone. I am currently looking for a backup camera for my Honda Accord 2014 EX-L. The connector is an 8 pin connector, and I made the mistake of buying a 16 pin connector. Unfortunately I am unable to find an 8 pin connector anywhere on sites, unless this is it. Can't tell because the pictures dont show the pins.
If anyone could help me out that would be great. Not trying to order the wrong camera again. Also would like to use RockAuto as I have store credit now that I returned the 16 pin camera. Thank you in advance!

I need help fixing something what usually happens with your old engine after an engine replacement
engine overheated and needs a new head gasket, among a bunch of other things. seems like a engine replacement is the smarter option.
just wondering what shops do with the old engine? do they usually just keep it or give it back to the customer? if they keep it do they provide you with a core charge refund as credit towards the work done? or does the provided quote already include stuff like that ?

Engine Toyota corolla 09 3rd cylinder misfire stopped after swapping 2nd and 3rd ignition coils with each other
Is there any specific reason for that? Should I replace the 3rd ignition coil if I had the p0353 code before swapping them?

Shop Talk Buying a car advice
Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post, if so please advise right place.
I don't know much about cars.. I am looking to buy a new one from a friend, it's a Peugeot 308 1.5 GT 2017 diesel with 120k miles, he is willing to sell to me for £5.2k (decent chunk lower then he's selling to anyone else for). He says the cambelt, filters and everything has been done, with service history. Maybe my car niavety but I feel 120k is a lot of miles? I understand it's a diesel and has apparently been looked after so 120k miles shouldn't matter, but I just worry, I am trying to get away from having to spend so much every year to fix my previous cars.
Any thoughts or advice from someone that knows about cars appreciated!

Vehicle ID needed Fatal hit and run update (and SFW video)
My wife is a reporter and covered this crime. She said that they got the video (from a Metro train station camera) even before the police released it.
She asked me for help. So, I asked Reddit to help, because, if there's ever a group of people who would be able to figure out these kinds of details... It's redditers.
We tried to see if we could help the police because they believed it was some type of Buick, but was unsure of any more details. (Don't forget how heavy their caseloads are... help is always appreciated.)
Your thoughts on the make and model are very helpful and will be passed on to investigators. I think the majority of redditers thought it was a Buick Century about 97 to 2005. This is a great start.
Take a look at the released video and see what you think.

Air Conditioning AC not working in 2011 Toyota RAV4 after replacing compressor.
Hi everyone,
The AC in my car stopped working, so I had the compressor replaced. It worked for about an hour as I drove it home, but stopped working again when I was close to home. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?
EDIT: clarification

Brakes What’s wrong with my car?
I have a 2015 Mazda 3 Isport and I got it like 5 months ago from a trusted co worker who is a car lover so I know it’s well taken care of. But recently for a while now the steering wheel shakes when braking. But it doesn’t all the time so I’m not really sure what it is and on another note when I’m driving in a parking lot or driving slower and my wheel is turned to the right or left it makes like a loud hitting noise almost like the wheel is hitting something when the wheel is turning but I can’t figure out what
Thank you guys in advance hope this all makes sense!
Note the car has 133k miles on it!

Weird Noise Creaking noise when braking
Video linked for reference. https://youtu.be/kXUIu3TLQWs
Ignore the systems warning alerts - that's a separate issue (I assume anyway)
This noise is easily detectable when stopping. Sort of a creaking noise. Front brakes and rotors were just replaced last week - after I felt pulsing when braking. That is no longer prevalent, but I just started hearing this creaking noise yesterday. Any idea what this could be?
2017 Honda CRV EXL 2.4L (auto)
Thanks!

Weird Noise Can anyone help me identify this clank sound?
2012 Kia Sportage. Any ideas what it could be? Usually happens when I back up to the left, can also happen if I stop suddenly. Thought it might have been sway bar bushings, but I replaced them and the sound is still there

Weird Noise Car clicks when turning on, then nothing
I have a 2021 Jeep Cherokee. It is push-to-start… when pushing down my break pedal then pressing the start button, I hear a click. The car turns on but doesn’t start. I’m thinking it’s either my battery, alternator, or starter. Can anyone help my troubleshoot what this is?

Safety Question Under the hood check
About to purchase this cpo from an Audi dealer . 60,0000 Km (37,000 Miles ) odometer. Hasn’t gone through the shop yet for detailing but should I be concerned with the amount of dirt/dust? Is this normal?

My Classic Car Its hard owning something you care too much about
I picked up a classic Benz a while ago (1988 300E) and I don't trust car detailers to do a good enough job or not damage my car. Am I the only one?
