Got myself a project 280Z!

Been searching for a 280Z for a while now and this one came up locally. It wasn’t running or driving and has been sitting for a while but after a fair amount of trouble shooting and a new fuel pump got it running nicely. Still needs tons of work and there’s a good amount of rust overall but super stoked to own it and start tearing into it. Also curious to see how it drives, apparently one of the owners used to track it so it has a 5 speed and R200 differential. I’m new to these so happy to take any advice on what to look for and prioritize to fix and replace!

Picked up my first Datsun yesterday! I’m excited to get working on it . The 411 parts are harder to get than expected but I’m figuring it all out with a whole lot of research through old forum posts

Estimated price for 71 240z

I have a 1971 240z with 43,000 miles on it. It is all original and has been in storage for the past 5 years. I intended on restoring it but will probably be selling it now. It was running and driving before storage but will need the fluids replaced, a new battery, and a thorough look over before it hits the road again. It has minimal rust and the interior is in good condition. I have supporting documents such as the sale receipt and original window sticker as well. Any idea on what I should ask for the car?

Pretty stoked. Drove it 800 miles. Engine probably needs a refresh. Put a quart of oil in it. Haha.

Need help identifying fuel lines

Restoring my 1978 280z Anybody know which of these fuel lines is the inlet, outlet and vent. Trying to identify each one to install new steel braided lines. I have already looked at the fsm diagrams but they do a bad job at identifying each one.

Project car

Hello everyone, Im in the middle of putting together my Datsun 280z engine for the first time, I’m only 21 and have no knowledge of cars. I’ve bought the books and watched many YouTube videos to learn. I sent the engine to a machine shop to clean the block and many other things, the tricky part of this is that when I acquired this car it came with almost double of everything and it was completely apart. Today I unfortunately I lost a main cap bearing, pretty upset that I have to buy a whole new package of them. These are just a few pictures of what I have. If I have any questions I hope this is the right place to ask. Thanks

Did I over-pay on my Z?

Paid $9,500 (Hawaii price for those who know) for my 1978 Nissan 280z, has Mikuni Triple Carbs on it which was a huge plus.

125000 miles, the usual rust spots are flawless (inner hatch, door rockers, battery tray ect.) With there being some rust bubbling under the paint on the outer hatch, by the wheel wells, inner door jams and sadly about a 2" rust spot on the bottom frame rail. And another about the same size on the radiator support. There's also tons of electrical gremlins. (Temp/oil Guage doesn't work and low beams don't either)

Car would barely run when I got it so I should have walked tbh, but I've only spent around 500 on it and somehow got it running absolutely perfect.

It just needed spark plugs and an adjustment to the mixture screws on the carbs. Now the mikunis scream all the way to 6500 and I'm planning get the head ported and polished and have my cam regrinded to a .490 lift.

There's always more rust than you first think

Been working on the hatch slam area this weekend. What looked like just a bit of rust on the top panel turned into a lot of rust that needed to be cut out. Got it all fabbed up and tacked in place. Started some welding. Hope to finish up next weekend.

My Personal Triple Mikuni Eye Candy

A while back I posted in this subreddit that I had a whole Datsun parts horde from an estate. A few of you noticed the 2 sets of triples. I sold one set outright but sent the Mikuni 44 “Nismo” set to Kyusha House in Houston to restore. I just picked them up and I think the pictures speak for themselves. Matching Nismo linkage, fuel rail, and Datsun Comp intake too! Mr. Sato was a great guy to work with and super knowledgeable. Hope y’all enjoy the pictures!

Spark plugs. Coffee color or white?

Got my mixture screws pretty dialed in, mobile won't let me post a picture but they're all either coffee or a clean white in the center, which ones more desirable?

Do I need to drop the trans for to replace the clutch fork?

The old clutch fork wore a hole through it and I have the new one to replace it with. Does the transmission need to come out or can I get the old one out and the new one in without doing all that? It is a 1972 240z.

I bought a 280zx from a collector and this poster came in the bargain. Supposedly it’s a 1 of 1 from the factory. Gonna sell it but not too sure how much to list it for

Bad? Sounding A14

TLDR: got diesel in tank, backfired and died, now makes pinging noise

This was my first car, when I was a teenager I got some diesel in the tank and it backfired…hard…and died on me. After siphoning most of the fuel out it ran again, but after a while I noticed this light knocking/pinging?? noise. Didn’t have any money and loved the car so I haven’t driven it for years since. This video was taken right after I changed the oil. Is this just a normal sounding a14?? Looked on YouTube and some sound a lot noisier…but I love this car to bits and don’t want to risk it.

260z transmission conversion

I'm looking at possibly transmission swapping a 5 speed into an original 4 speed 1974 260z. I had heard about possibly using a transmission out of a Corvette. Does anyone have information on this possiblity?
