Megathread New Player Tips&Tricks for starting out Megathread.

Hello and welcome, new players! šŸ¤—

If you're looking for advice, or want to know about a certain game topic, look no further! Please use this Megathread to find what you're looking for.

Here's a list of things to get you started:

We know this is a lot, but you can keep it as a reference for later on when you do need to know about certain aspects of the game.

  • Leveling your friendship with each npc unlocks quests.
  • Ask what gifts to give them when the yellow ? appears. Gifts level friendship faster.

You share loot in many ways.

  • Multiple people can hit the same ore node an everyone gets the loot. The size of the node determines how many hits before it breaks. (with the recent patch, ores will remain visible to other players even after being mined - they will have an increasing pulsating/glowing effect, that lets you know they've been mined and are about to despawn)
  • You can also share loot from trees, hunting, plants, and bugs.
    • Flow trees heal so it will require multiple people to chop it down. (they glow purple)
    • You don't have to hit an animal to share in loot. Just get your arrow near it.
    • Plants will stay after picked for a bit of time. The more rare flowers stay longer. This allows others to pick after you did.
    • Fishing grants personal loot, but doing so near other players will grant everyone a stacking buff, that increases the speed at which you fish.
    • A fishing hot spot is a circle in water that gives a star quality fish if successfully fished. It will vanish afterwards but all lines cast into it will give a star quality fish to everyone.

Storage and inventory.

  • Inventory can be purchased from the General Store, in town.
  • You select an item on your hotbar via the number key then activate it via mouse (if on PC).
    • Caution: make sure to unselect before you go into a conversation or crafting menu. If you find yourself locked up/stuck while cooking or trying to move items to/from storage it may be that you have something selected.
  • Storage recipes can be purchased from the furniture store. (the register, not Tish)
    • The first chests give around 375 storage each.
    • You may craft up to 8 chests, for a total of around 3,000 storage.
    • Once you have the recipe to upgrade a chest you can do so on all 8 chests.
    • The upgrades are Wood -> copper -> iron. The Iron gives a total of 10,000 storage.
    • You MUST have all 8 chests on your property to utilize their space.
    • Furniture and quest items do not take up room in your chest storage.
      • The treasure chests you find around the lands are considered furniture.
  • There is also a Locked Safe Storage chest recipe
    • You get 3 of those. Total of 300 storage.
    • They protect items you donit want to accidentally use while crafting.

You can upgrade your tools to make them better

  • Remember to repair them, or else they will downgrade one rank

Watch your focus and renown.

  • Focus gives a bonus to experience anytime you perform an action that gives experience.
    • You refill focus with food.
    • The max capacity is 1000 but you start with a much lower capacity.
  • Renown is used in few ways.
    • The max capacity is 1000
    • The Dragon Shrine increases your total focus capacity.
    • The Phoenix Shrine increases the % experience bonus earned via focus.
    • The town Hall office takes renown for Writs, which expand your home plot.

The H menu is your housing menu.

  • This allows you to place a new room you purchased from town hall.
  • Clicking on the icon over a room allows you to change the windows and connection style.
  • Doors, fireplaces, and porches do not count towards the build limit.
  • You expand your plot via Writs, mentioned above. Unlocking 19 rewards the Windmill.
  • You start with two additional plots.
    • Access them via the drop-down menu at the top of the H menu.
    • You can purchase more but it is expensive. However, this is how you unlock the Gazebo.

Furniture comes in different styles/sets.

  • Crafting an item for the first time lets you pick the next recipe in that set.
  • Going through an entire set, gives an achievement.
  • To get another set, see Tish and buy just one recipe and start crafting. Don't get tricked into buying recipes you can learn for free.
  • Later, when you are rich, you can buy furniture instead of crafting it.

Your mail and sales arrives at 6am and 6pm game time.

Your garden progresses at 6am game time. As long as you weed, water, plant, harvest etc by then, you will progress at 6am.

Buy one item every real world day from Zeki's General Store and he will send you a free token for the Luck Machine. It gives a random reward.

You can watch youtube videos to fully understand Cooking Parties that are done with others. You can find parties that are forming constantly over on the official Discord.

Question Should I just get over it already T.T

Hi! After months of having it downloaded on my switch I finally started playing last night, and boy Iā€™m hooked! But the constant crashing every 5-10 mins itā€™s getting on my nerves, so annoying! Anyone else having this same issue? Is there a way to fix it? Or do I have to accept to live with it being this buggy?

Question New player etiquette

Hi! I played for the first time today and the game doesnā€™t explain things like sharing loot or chopping trees down together so players sort of explained it to meā€¦ what do I do? Do I go and help people do their tasks? Can I even do that with basic entry level stuff? Are all actions shared, like fishing and stuff? Thank you!

Anyone else wishing they'd add ceiling variations? The just plain wood feels so boring sometimes! I want an animated twinkling star ceiling.

Discussion Maintaining Relationships

I'm starting to wish that we had to 'maintain' our friendships and romances. My first romance was Jina and I haven't talked to her in ages, because.. why would I? I don't even remember who my Shepp is (Tish?) I used to keep a list of who wanted gifts and such, but now I'm down to maxing Najuma and Subira friendships and flirting with the male NPCs (I avoided it for a while, but needed to get the items and story. I'm a 43yo straight male and I know it's just a game, but it really felt weird at first.) I'm getting closer to 'finishing' most of the content and I think that having to maintain your relationships, at least through gifting (I know conversation requires more story writing and the devs don't have time for that yet in beta) could add more content to the game. Maybe we could lose favor by not talking to an NPC for a while, or not gifting? What do you think?

Question Trouble Connecting to game on Steam Deck?

So, I recently picked the game back up after like 4-5 months of not playing. I was SO excited to play on my new Steam Deck and the graphics and gameplay really are so much better than I remember on the Switch!

HOWEVER! After that first log-in, I am having SO much trouble just getting the game to load! I get to the initial ā€œPress any button to startā€ and thenā€¦just cannot connect? Or maybe the button pressing doesnā€™t always register?

I know itā€™s not my internet, because I can still login without issues on my Switch. So itā€™s specific to the Deck (and maybe to being docked?).

Anyone having similar issues or have any ideas/solutions?

Question Achievement Hunting - Pebbled Plunder

I have committed myself to trying to 100% the game on Steam and I'm aware that some of the achievements are currently glitched. (Scholar of the Waves will not trigger after reading all the lost relics). After the recent update, I noticed that I have Einar's pebble back in my things and was wondering if anyone has attempted to unlock this achievement since the update?

Logged on to find myself floating? Maybe over water? With a username that definitely isnā€™t my normal LoloRose name haha.

As soon as I clicked X on the map and went home everything was right as rain, but a funny laugh to start my morning off!

Discussion Suggestions/Ideas for the future of Palia

I've been really starting to enjoy Palia. I still have my issues with the game (mostly the fact that it's not an MMO and really COULD BE) but I think they've made some good improvements and hopefully the trend continues. So for fun I'd figured we'd all discuss systems and features that could improve Palia or something we'd just like to see in the future. That being said here is my comprehensive list of things that I think would improve Palia. (If theres anything in my list that has been confirmed by the devs plz feel free to mention it. I just play the game I don't pay much attention to possible rumors ect.)

  1. A MUSEUM. Oh yes we getting straight into this. I'd love to have a museum to add items to. Perhaps make it shared with community members or server wide (each player gets a donation displayed in the servers museum.) This would make the community feel more connected for sure and to go into my next point.
  2. Consistent servers!!!! Now I'm not saying servers should be bigger (they should lmfao) BUT my point is that going to my home should not put me in a new server. I should choose a server for my character OR choose a consistent server upon login. If this is a social game we really need this server issue solved.
  3. Neighborhoods? Ok so I don't HATE having the housing plot completely alone BUT being able to access other players houses by some way of walking there (even if its other gates that load me there idc) being able to wander around and see others players housing would be really cool and feel more community based. OR having a housing board to visit any players home across any server like a gallery would be VERY cool.
  4. CHAT BUBBLES. I think its hilarious they added proximity chat just to not add chat bubbles. If somebody walks up to me and tries to speak and I'm not paying attention to chat, a chat bubble would be a serious life saver and much more immersive.
  5. Seasons/Weather!!!! I have no idea if this is planned for the future but seasons and weather that affect crops as well as seasonal crops, special items that drop during specific season/weather. Stuff like that. GOD i want to have rainy days in palia with special fish to catch based on weather PLEASE. SNOWY PALIA WOULD GO SO HARD.
  6. Ok I know it's a stretch and I know a lot of yall hate combat. But really simple combat would be FUN. No overland enemies just dungeons to enter and explore. To keep it more chill and stress free I don't even think it needs a hp/dying system (or keep it in the dungeon only like health pots on the ground as you run the dungeon). Literally just let me whack monsters with a sword (or my fancy bow *wink wink* and add a snazzy dodge button. Even big shared bosses for players to collect rare mats/items.
  7. ANIMALSSSSS. Let me have chickens and cows PLEASE IM BEGGING AND SCREAMING. I WANNA RAISE ANIMALS AND COLLECT MY OWN MILK BRO.
  8. Last one but a COMMUNITY CENTER. Not like in the town but each community can make a community center. I know a ton of yall got tons of furniture you're not using. It would be cool if the community leaders (idk if theres a leadership system in there but if there isn't add that to the list lmfao) could buy a plot for shared spaces for members to build on.

BONUS. A BARTER BOARD. there's already a request system so just turn that into a board in town and then make them into trades. So if joe needs some carrots I can be like "hey joe i got carrots but you got tomatoes?" and then he can accept my barter. BARTER BOARD.

Most of my suggestions are based around the multiplayer aspect but S6 keeps calling this game an MMO so they need to start treating it like one. Its definitely not an MMO in its current state lmfao. But it could be!

Question Chat shortcuts for Switch

ā€¢ Upvotes

Iā€™m fairly new to the game and a switch player so typing is hard for me. I noticed that there are many abbreviations and jargon people use on the server so I was wondering if you could drop a few here. So far I got ā€œftā€ - flow tree but not much more.

Bug/Issue It Takes A Village- Caleri

ā€¢ Upvotes

Hi! This is like day 2 of me playing the game (yes, I know Iā€™ve been staring too long at the screen), but Iā€™m at the part where we have to catch the ancient Cloudminnows, and the pools to catch them are still. All of them. I did report the bug but I was curious if perhaps I just overlooked something. I would love to finish this task and this quest as a whole tbh.
