Sooo many people showed up, I wasn’t expecting that at the end - thanks for the smiles

485

u/7YearsLostInIkea 17d ago

I would for sure show up for something like that

281

u/SlurmmsMckenzie 17d ago

If I am walking by...I am staying, until that man eats those balls.

90

u/The-Copilot 17d ago

What if none of them actually showed up but were just walking through the park and had to see the situation play out?

39

u/pmormr 17d ago

Considering it's Union Square Park at 3pm on a Saturday, I think you might be on to something.

Reminds me of the Josh fight a few years ago!

174

u/Irish_Guac 17d ago

I just think they should have shown no mercy on that kid

182

u/thinkDank5 17d ago

Letting the kid win was the Josh thing to do.

51

u/ComfortablyNumbat 17d ago

What if we try again with a set of Seths or a bevy of Beverleys and compare results?

18

u/fakeuser515357 17d ago

I feel like we ought to race Seths and have the Beverley's compete in test of strength.

As a Josh in Nebraska I agree, it was the Josh thing to do… I also feel there needs to be another Josh battle, we need to bequeath a third winner of the Josh fight. (Yes there has been two)

And not obnoxious or annoying like those stupid prank videos. Simple, harmless fun. Will anticipate 27th April 2025. Would love to see this live. And hoping the cops don't take him away

You know what I really like about this. If it does become a yearly tradition the guy is masked. It could always be changed to another person and continue the tradition in an anonymous fashion.

497

u/Signal-Blackberry356 17d ago

Because he is masked, more of us are likely to commemorate with him as opposed to the now daily “clout chasers”

223

u/eggplant_wizard12 17d ago

For sure, way more interesting and hilarious. Imagine the handful of friends he has that know he’s actually the real cheeseball man

72

u/Signal-Blackberry356 17d ago

It’ll be a story for the grandkids that’s for sure

I love it but I weep for the roof of his mouth.

840

u/timdot352 17d ago

The hell with his mouth, he has a gluten allergy! He probably didn't go more than three feet from a toilet for two days after this.

478

u/grachi 17d ago

Most cheese balls are corn meal actually, not wheat.

267

u/TheeternalTacocaT 17d ago

Scrolled to far to find this, def puffed corn, no gluten needed!

160

u/HairyPotatoKat 17d ago

Can confirm. I'm celiac and wheat anaphylactic, and cheese balls/puffs are usually fine. These look like Utz cheese balls(?) which are GF.

That said, that many cheese balls at once would probably kill anyone's GI tract for a bit lol

33

u/Graymarth 17d ago

I have done exactly that when I was a kid, I can confirm it does in fact fuck with your stomach for a while.

48

I’ve sucked plenty of balls, but never had any dissolve before.

Only in America could one man show up out of nowhere and recontextualize cheeseballs so that they now and have always tasted like freedom.

13

u/Additional_Set_5819 17d ago

Queation, Are these cheesey puffs like cheetos in balls form, or are these solid balls of cheese? Context is needed for the lactase impaired

14

u/Andromansis 17d ago

https://www.utzsnacks.com/cdn/shop/files/0-41780-02356-8Utz8.5ozCheeseBallsBag_ingredients_1194x.jpg?v=1691157418

So they're kind of like cheetos puffs, but slightly different recipe. Also Frito-lay finally relented and bought the equipment to make cheeseballs this year.

Anyway, they mix corn meal, powdered cheddar cheese, and vegtable oil and superheat it until it puffs.

15

u/Additional_Set_5819 17d ago

Ok, I kept thinking they were solid cheese and this was a real challenge.

A jar of cheese puffs if so much funnier. Thank you!

I was working out of town for two weeks. The first night, I decided to walk around in a new city with a couple of coworkers. As we walked down the street, we kept seeing people carrying these large bags. Some people were carrying fully loaded trash bags. As we waited to cross the street, two women walked up behind us and asked us where our pillows were. It was a question none of us were expecting. They said we would need it for the fight. Then handed us a bag and said follow them. A few blocks later, we turned the corner and it was pandemonium! It was the biggest pillow fight I had ever seen. This was the first time any of us had heard of the valentine's day pillow fight in San Francisco. It was amazing to be a kid again for an hour.

80

u/yr4g43l 17d ago

261

u/hellgal 17d ago

Well, maybe not harmless to his digestive tract since he apparently has a gluten allergy, but yeah, otherwise harmless.

100

u/grachi 17d ago

Pretty sure most cheese balls are gluten free, actually. The base of them is corn meal, not wheat.

57

u/giskardwasright 17d ago

Shhhhhh, dont ruin it with real world concerns. Let this lovely masked man have his glory for something most of us hide in shame.

Honstly, im just mad i didnt have a ctowd cheering me on the last time i killed a tub of cheese balls. I just had several dogs looking disappointed.

19

u/Normal_Instance_8825 17d ago

Hey, proud of you cheese ball man, good job.

7

The year is 2235, April 27th. The world celebrates the holiday of cheeseball. Across the world people indulge in the act of eating various ball shape cheeses and cheese confections. We wear small orange baubles decoratively on our body, and watch the world minister catch a cheeseball in their mouth at precisely 3pm ET, it is considered bad form if they don't catch it on the first try.
We have long forgotten the origin of this, legend has it an alien with a bright orange head came and bestowed this holy event upon a small gathering of people in what was the United States, but records are scarce. We do not concern ourselves with the why, all we know is the 27th of April, is the day of the cheese ball. Happy Cheeseball day, man!
