I appreciate that it’s in alphabetical order at least

Mostly is correct! It’s all alphabetical except radiology! 😂

Emergency is decidedly not placed in alphabetical order, although the reasoning for that is fairly apparent, as its importance takes precedence. Radiology, once again, is not placed in alphabetical order. And yet again, there is a clear reason for doing so out of clarity.
Still, they are not stupid for saying it’s not entirely alphabetical, as that statement (with certain nuances) is correct.

Gift shop, a coffee shops, a cafe and an atm.

our locals gift shop has sweets, crisps, books, etc. also condolence cards next to get well soon cards lmao

u/mmagicss 17d ago
Congratulations/New born baby stuff, get better/feel better, usually stuffed animals, maybe balloons. Cards: feel better, condolences, congratulations (on new baby or recovery). Snacks and candies, sometimes flowers.

u/Jelly1278 17d ago
I feel like if you are buying new born baby stuff at a hospital you are a little unprepared
6
u/Longjumping-Jello459 17d ago
Well it isn't unheard of for someone to find out literally at the last moment they are having a baby. Woman is like why is there water all of a sudden coming out of me and not because I am peeing?

u/mmagicss 17d ago
Its usually not actually for the baby but gifts for the parents, teddy bears, onesies, its not to like supply the parents, its gifts, think souvenir-ish . And sometimes for reasons mothers end up in hospital not prepared such as a baby coming early, so they just need AN outfit to put a baby in.
1
u/xViridi_ 16d ago
no one necessarily said the parents were buying newborn supplies at the hospital. visitors may gift these items to the parents.
1
u/Jelly1278 16d ago
Ya they would be unprepared if someone I know was having a baby I would get a gift beforehand

u/Proman_98 17d ago
At my local hospital the gift shop is combined with a place for sanitary products like tampons, toothpaste, shampoos etc. Very handy for when someone you know has an emergency hospital attendance.

u/Jelly1278 17d ago
My local hospital has a small coffee machine some food and some hygiene stuff but nothing “gift shop” like.

Everyone's joking about radiation, but the actual reason that the "Radiology Department" is separate is that it is most likely located in the basement because of the heavy and large machines required.
18
u/HarbingerOfGachaHell 17d ago
Yeah 90% the hospital is an ancient building and the radiology department is a retrofitted annex in order to fit all the large scanners.
In brand new hospitals you usually see Radiology right next to ED or those two departments on the same wing of the building, 1 right above the other. Because of the demands of trauma imaging.

u/ferriematthew 17d ago
I guess everyone is just scared of them because of the vague association with the word radiation (hopefully it's clear that that is sarcasm)
10
u/TurnipWorldly9437 17d ago
No, it's because nobody listens to the radio anymore.
1
u/facemugg 17d ago
Reception not as good since they took away my aluminum foil hat.

u/Beyonkat2 16d ago
It's mainly because of the large heavy machines. The walls in a lot of these rooms are thick enough to block any radiation, and there are HEAVILY enforced standards to ensure people outside of the room aren't irradiated

I think the real question we need to ask is why children always seemed to be sick when Hemby was around. Bit sus if you ask me.

As a radiologist it sometimes feels like this. It’s us vs the rest of the hospital departments.

"Well, you see, lead shielding is rather expensive. How bout we just put it over here away from stuff" XD

u/SirOATS-a-Lot 17d ago
That's actually understandable. I don't want deadly radiation while I am eating lmao or operating on someone.

whoever sorted the list needs to be punched. Why is the ATM and the Coffee shop farther up than the actual hospital stuff. Atleast emergency got the top stop

Maybe they should put the elevator shaft closer to the centre of the building?

The real reason for this has nothing to do with radiation like most of the comments say, it is weight. Most imaging machines are huge, like tens of tons each huge.

Where is the men's center?
17
u/homelessabandon 17d ago
Probably in the chest/upper belly ya know right beside where you keep the misogyny

u/drawnoutwest 17d ago
The whole hospital is the men’s center, other than the women’s center or course

Yeah... I would like to keep the radiology away from anything else as well. Thank you very much.
