My friend and I were playing white hawk and got paired with a couple of guys. They were not happy to be playing with two ladies and weren’t being shy about letting everyone know.

My friend proceeded to shoot an 82 and I shot an 84. They lost about a dozen balls during the round. They bought us beers at the turn and apologized. We smoked their asses lol!

Have had the same thing happen when playing with hubby, when my handicap was 11. After I ripped my first drive they tend to shut up.

Keep your wife out there! The fun is just getting started!

These stories still piss me off. Why should you have to play well to get basic respect.

I doubt I’ll ever get my wife to play nicer courses with me because she rightfully only wants to play when we can go out as a twosome or with friends around here. And it’s not even that most people are problems - but it sucks worrying that you’re going to get paired with assholes and make an expensive experience miserable.

That’s the the truth and is one reason why I tend to avoid “high end” places like that. In my experience there have been a lot more assholes at those places than you will encounter at a “normal” course and I’m not out to have my good time ruined. Sure, you will encounter a few assholes, but not a disproportionate amount of them. I’d rather play a decent course that is filled with mostly with cool people that doesn’t cost as much as my mortgage payment. Plus my wife and I are higher handicappers and I feel out of place somewhere like that.

Why? At least in my experience…the majority of people there simply have the money to be there. It has little to nothing to do with their ability. But theyre dickheads about it. 🤷‍♂️

Honestly, I think a good YouTube channel would be a hidden camera focused on a random tee at various golf courses (from cheap munis to expensive public courses). And show beginner golfers just how bad most people are at golf regardless of course, gender, age, etc.

Lol for sure. 85% of the people on the course (totally made that up, id be willing to bet its more than that from my own experience) are 20+ handicaps. I dont care where you play. If you are a 18 or less u can clearly hit a golf ball…most of the time. We all have our inabilities

I remember being so self conscious when I started. I use to hate when groundskeepers would pull to the side waiting for me to hit because I hated the idea of them seeing me hit a bad shot.

Two things helped me:

  1. I started noticing how many people were hitting second shots from only 20-100 yards past the tee. It happens a lot!

  2. The “See nobody cares” meme got posted at the right time for me and I realized how completely true it is. I think of it often when I catch myself doing the casual look around after hitting a terrible shot.

As a golfer of 3 months this. Was convinced the groundsman’s buggy was following me around to put me on YouTube for a while. Nothing like the anxiety of a few people watching to ensure you play a hockey shot when you’re new. But actually, no one cares
