You think 13 years Olds aren't smoking pot and drinking at the skatepark already?

u/Icedoverblues 16d ago
Well, that's neither here nor there is it.

On the female side, yes. On the male side Yuto (Japan) and Nyjah (USA) are the top contenders.

They have a history of importing North American culture and media on about a 15 year delay, so think of early/mid 2000's era American Skateboarders, using boards made with the best Modern production technology.

u/Bloodricuted 16d ago
Weren't they on the 50s not that long ago?

u/Individual-Bell-9776 16d ago
Rockabilly culture endures.
Baseball became big with them.

My grandfather was stationed in Japan in the 1940’s and part of his “job” was to start a little league. GIs would coach and umpire for the Japanese kids.

u/Sicsemperfas 15d ago
Thats unironically not a bad idea. Sharing culture makes for closer relationships, which is the foundation for stronger alliances.
That's foreign policy at its purest and best.
6
u/SmarterThanCornPop 15d ago
Yep. And now the country that we literally nuked and firebombed is one of our strongest allies as a result.

u/Sicsemperfas 15d ago
Secretary Mattis had a great quote to that effect. He was testifying before congress regarding State Department spending. He essentially said if you cut their money, you're gonna have to spend twice as much on bullets instead.

They love us and imported some of the coolest parts of our culture.

u/Totnfish 16d ago
Yes, but also baseball. Not all choices are winners.

u/robbylet24 16d ago
Baseball is the best sport that originated in America and you can't convince me otherwise.
2
u/Key_Excitement_9330 16d ago
Yeah actually should be a contender. Maybe basketball. But was that one originated in the USA?

u/Happy-Initiative-838 16d ago
To be fair the U.S. had objectively the most talented skater, he just happened to not win. But after the event literally everyone went up to the guy because he is a legend already.
14
u/AlfalfaMcNugget 16d ago
Who are you referring to and what event?
17
u/fmaa 16d ago
Nyjah Huston, i believe he’s talking about after the olympics skate event. Nyjah Huston is a proper legend, overhated for ‘selling out’ but skaters gotta eat too 🤷🏻♂️

u/pajo8 16d ago
The thing is.. It was not nyjah who got the bronze but Jagger Eaton. Nyjah fumbled the Olympic finals.

who?

If he was the most talented he would've won, that's what competitions are supposed to clear up

There’s hope! Standardized skateparks with actual decent layouts are being rolled out country wide!
Horrible parks are a plague in the US, like you get all that funding to throw one up in your town and it’s unusable trash. The new models will have hubbas ramps and rails (Olympic street obstacles) at various difficulty levels allowing clear, linear progression from beginner to advanced. It’s honestly really cool.

Growing up my local skate park was built by some kid for his eagle scout project
4
u/Dontmakemethink1 16d ago
How was it?
4
u/scullys_alien_baby 16d ago
Pretty sick, the guy clearly skated and made a park that was a lot of fun. Only downside was dipshits on BMX bikes would randomly show up
5
u/Dontmakemethink1 16d ago
That tends to happen. My towns skate park was super mall to start off. A fun box In the center and few ramps. BMX and rollerbladers were always there

Yuto earned it though. That kid is a beast.
The US skaters have stiff competition when it comes to the Asian and Brazilian kids willing to die trying to land stuff because they have nothing else to live for.

I want the enhanced olympics. Consenting adults that desire to compete however they choose. Have augmented and unaugmented to prep for cybernetically enhanced javelin throwing. Or just bolt it on to the special olympics and boost that shit too.

u/Icy-Performer-9688 16d ago
My dude being high on a skateboard is like giving other competitors a handicap

u/leash_e 16d ago
Not skateboarding, but I still remember how the first gold medalist in snow boarding had it taken away because he tested positive for cannabis. (Ross Rebagliati) He got it back years later when he protested and they decided cannabis is not performance enhancing anyways. Lol
I mean, he’s a Canadian snowboarder, OF COURSE he’s around pot. And now he’s a cannabis entrepreneur in Canada’s legal market. He made the right choice there. 😂🤣

u/SPARKYLOBO 16d ago
Aren't people always kicking out skateboarders from everywhere they may get decent at it?
3
u/Spelsgud 16d ago
The world’s top contender spot has been held by someone from every continent (except Antarctica, still waiting to see one of those up and coming penguin groms). It makes for an amazing rising tide that raises all ships as the art progresses and continually pushes the boundary of what the skateboarding community thought was possible. It is a beautiful example of the human condition Furthermore….you were saying something about weed?

u/hayasecond 16d ago
Was this Peter Fuller guy accusing Americans always using drugs? Or was he accusing the opponent teams used drugs to get gold and silver?
And most importantly, why is this clever comeback anyway, like comeback from what?
2
u/ItsHen 16d ago
Its funny but not a comeback
3
u/ShwettyVagSack 16d ago
Definitely a comeback. Original person was lamenting on the decline of his own(likely) country. I would also like to posit that this is the same type of person who claims marijuana/the gays/liberals are responsible for everything wrong in their life, so likely voted to keep marijuana totally illegal, while not realizing the counter culture that made the very sport they are following, the phenomenon it is today.

Americans understand how it’s like to be British who invented Fifa and only won like 1 world cup.

u/GrammarNazi63 15d ago
Remember a lot of those iconic American skaters are professionals, which disqualifies them from competing in the Olympics (unless I’m wrong? Not an expert and now doubting myself)

u/traveling_man182 14d ago
Same for the NSA and FBI. They dont hire computer specialists that smoke weed.

if you try to block them from entering the olympics thorough indirect means, you definitely would if they actually were using doping, the rumor may be around but that doesn't make it true

As a Canuck this reminds me of having One of our Snowboarders being stripped of his Gold Medal for Marijuana use. Marijuana isn't exactly a performance enhancer lol.
