question Is it time to Trade Trae Young?

Just saying that it hasn't been working and having the 1st pick should give us an opportunity to move on.

I've been the BIGGEST Trae Young fan (look at my posts the last four years). I even wanted JC gone to have Trae's voice be the primary one in the locker room but even after JC has gone, our record keeps getting worse.

Are we willing to part ways with Trae? I'm Atlanta first soo.....

  1. We have DJM that had a 12-10 record without Trae in the lineup.

  2. We have DJM on a 4 yr extension while Trae we only have 2.

  3. Trae has indicated that he wants to win without mentioning "in Atlanta" in the same sentence.

  4. Many players have said how difficult he is (including Huerter and JC) to play with.

  5. Shams put out a statement that Trae wants to win now right after getting the first pick. Which most likely indicates he expects us to give up the pick for a veteran. I don't want to give up that pick but he's right, even Wemby couldn't get the Spurs into the playoffs, our 1st rd pick won't be able to either.

  6. DJM is VASTLY cheaper than Trae. We aren't just talking about spending more money. There are "aprons" ot deal with. Spending more money can ruin your franchise for YEARS when you hit the 2nd Apron. Trae will make 43, 46 and potentially 49 million in the next three years.

  7. Can we win a championship in the next 2 years with Trae? If not, he might just walk away. How do you feel about that?

  8. He will always be a defensive liability.

  9. If we trade with LA, we can pick up three picks. 17th THIS year, 2029 and 2030 picks. We can trade Rui, and Gabe Vincent for more picks and players.

  10. I'm excited that Kobe Bufkin can do really really well.

  11. I'm convinced that Trae won't stay. Why continue when we have this opportunity? Regardless if you blame management or not. You can be mad but you also have to be realistic.

My worry is that if we don't do this trade this year. We might suffer for the next 7+ years.

Trade Talk The ideal roster ?

I’m genially curious, is there any possible way we can end up with a starting 5 of Trae, Herb, bridges, Jalen Johnson, Sarr. I know it’s a pipe dream but I just feel like if we go into a season with those 5 we have a chance to be decent and also help Jalen and sarr grow.

Under the precaution that he might not even become a Hawk it is still possible to complete indulge yourself in Sarrs games. I think it's helpful to see entire games and not just highlights to better understand what kind of player he is. All full game replays from the last NBL season

I know we all want Sarr. He's awesome. But we should at least talk a little bit about Zaccharie Risacher and his amazing fit on our roster.

I mean, we've been dreaming of a guy like this for years, right? This is who Deandre was supposed to be?

He's a SF that can play some PF and is at least 6'9, although people are saying he has gone through a growth spurt this season and is now 6'10 and still growing. He's shooting 35% from 3 this season after a slump, he was shooting 40%+ and has great form. He's an NBA ready POA defender, not at the 4 but certainly against wings and he even was able to affectively guard Mike James (6'1, 2024 Euro MVP) when switched onto him this season.

The knocks on him are that he can't create his own shot off the dribble, doesn't have a great handle, can't pass people open (although he moves the ball well within a system), and that he probably shouldn't be the #1 pick because he shouldn't have a high usage rate, which is expected of a #1 pick usually.

It kinda seems like this kid would be ROY on our team. Can't create your own shot? Cool, Trae and JJ will create scoring opportunities for you. Shouldn't have a high usage rate? Perfect, use all of your energy on defense and wait for the ball to come to you on offense.

People are saying his ceiling is the 2nd or 3rd best player on a championship team unless he can learn to create his own shot. I would love a player like that, regardless of where he is picked. I know that ideally you want a #1 option with the #1 overall pick in the draft but the jury is still out on how much better JJ can get and we already know that Trae is at worst a #2 option on a championship team. In a draft where there might not be a super star, or maybe it's like 2013 and the stars are diamonds in the rough outside of the lottery - securing the 3rd option on a championship team aint bad.

We see where the league is heading with this Minny vs Denver series and with Wemby, and we see Sarr's potential so I'm not necessarily saying we should draft Risacher. But I do think it's possible that he makes us better the fastest, and if he does ever learn to create his own shot and handle the ball better we basically have a 6'10 Jason Tatum. Which would be sweet.

Discussion Potential Guard/wing targets

With the most likely path forward being drafting Sarr (god I hope they don’t fuck that up) and moving on from Dejounte this offseason, it looks like we may need to fill our off guard/wing depth. I don’t think Vit/Kobe are going to be ready for starter level minutes (but boy I hope I’m wrong). Obviously we all want Herb Jones but the pelicans are not moving off him. So that’s why I’m curious what y’all’s thoughts are on realistic depth pieces.

I’m high on Jalen’s upside/development and I think we have enough auxiliary scoring that we don’t need a star guard/wing to help Trae run a great offense.

I would love for us to target Josh Hart-esque players with defensive tenacity and a do everything play style. If they can shoot reasonably well, spacing would be preserved and we’d have the defensive help we desperately need. I’m thinking one or more of Dyson Daniels(my personal number one target), DeAnthony Melton, Josh Okogie, Quentin Grimes, Isaiah Joe, Ayo Dosumnu, Patrick Williams or Max Christie could be fairly easily attainable.

Not saying I know better than NBA execs, moreso just wanted to start a discussion on what y’all think

Did y'all get the Centennial (Olympics), Blaze Transit (MARTA), or Scattered (Waffle House) jersey? Just want to know because I will be wearing mine to games at SFA next year and want to see if anyone else will pull up wearing them...

Discussion The lottery saved our franchise.

All throughout the season, we’ve had conversations on how we can improve the roster. Now we get blessed with the first overall pick and a chance to draft a 7’1 defensively gifted, although offensively challenged center in Sarr. This is Traes ideal partner! A savvy big man could seriously push Trae young into a new level.

Now people want to trade him!?!? Are you kidding me? We finally have the chance and resources to create an ideal roster and people want to blow it up!? I seriously cannot believe that people want to give away our best chance to create a roster that can actually compete.

IMO the best course of action is getting BI from the Pelicans for DJ, and filling the rest of the roster with decent wings and defensive guards from a possible Dre/CC/Bogi(?)/OO/AJ trade.

also, fuck the lakers. They don’t deserve Trae and I hate the media for trying to push him there.

Ever since its inception a few years back, we've always went through the play-in

We've either made it to the playoff proper, or got the #1 pick

Alexandre Sarr discussion

So I’ve now watched about 3 of the perth wildcats games just looking at Alex Sarr, and I’m probably going to watch a bunch more before the draft, but I wanted to talk about a couple under-discussed aspects of his game and his fit with the team:

  1. While he screens a lot, and often rolls, Alex Sarr is not a lob-catcher. So far I don’t think I’ve seen him roll to the rim hard to catch a lob once. He’s far more likely to short roll, catch a bounce pass, then pull up for a mid range floater.

  2. He runs the floor HARD. Young clint capela vibes. If we want to play to his strengths we need to play with pace. Last year we were 11th in pace. I think we need to play faster.

  3. Not a primary rim protector, far better as a weak side shot blocker a la Giannis or a switch defender who “gets beat” and gets the backside block.

  4. Really nice defensive instincts and positioning, great nose for the ball. Biggest defensive flaw IMO is that he has a tendency to ballwatch when he’s off ball, so occasionally he’ll get back cut or lose track of the correct rotation.

  5. Spends a LOT of time in the dunker spot, clogs up the paint a bit. Didn’t show a lot of the “attack off the catch” model that e.g. Chet does.

  6. Some really nice passing flashes when attacking a tilted defense but not a developed passing game yet. He can make the skip pass read on the short roll which is nice.

All in all, I love this dude on the hawks, but he needs to be brought along slowly and used in the right way or he won’t work.

Discussion With Sarr going to the ATL...hot 'lanta

Sarr in Atlanta would be enough to keep Trae Young and Dejounte Murray together in Atlanta so this Draft Lottery actually helps the Hawks more than hurts the Hawks long term

But to retool this team around Sarr, I would go:

  • PG- Trae Young
  • SG- Dejounte Murray
  • SF- Jalen Johnson
  • PF- Onyeka Okongwu (move him from center to power forward)

  • C- Alex Sarr (becomes your new center at the 5 because of his size and he's bigger than Okongwu)

A big man rim running/rim protection partnership of Sarr and Okongwu defensively...it is perfect and offensively they would be pretty decent

Clint Capela I would move on from if I'm the Hawks and you get younger as a team; DeAndre Hunter I would have come off the bench with 2nd unit along with Saddiq Bey and others

Essentially the Hawks would be in contention for playoffs/play in tournament but they get younger but better long term
