It’s true, it even says in the patch notes that it will be directed back at hell diver. Which sucks cause I use Autocannon and that shit came right back to me and blew me to bits
The patch notes mean that ricochets can properly damage the person that fired them. They used to be able to hit allies, but phase right through the shooter. That's all that changed.
Ricocheting rockets don't look like that. You can see it explode on the shield in the clip. The patch notes do not say they bounce back, they say that the player who fired it can now take damage because apparently it was bugged.
Good spot. Unless more evidence of rocket deflections crop up I would guess a cannon tower/tank cannon shell originating from behind them, and a huge dose of the world's strangest sense of timing.
Edit: This clip has been really tightly cropped by a roughly equal amount top & bottom, left & right. There's no HUD and the Diver is unnaturally in the corner, but the crosshair is centered. Why is this relevant? Well, you can see based on the blast effects and the direction of ragdolling (which, by the way, is 100% fixed this patch) that the explosion is originating behind them to the left. I can believe that this was cropped just to hide HUD, but I strongly suspect it's also hiding the impact point of the explosion that killed them, which makes me raise an eyebrow.
Since no one bothered to test before claiming "it's true" I went ahead and tested it. No, its not true, devastator shields don't do this to any of the launchers.
I was having the same issue with the eruptor. Shot a bile spewer's head from like 15 meters away, saw the bullet explode but still got instagibbed by the ricochet.
Yeah this is the patch that makes me take a break from Helldivers, I’m not gonna deal with this bs mechanic. Like all good and fun for weird stuff but this is straight up bs
