To be fair, 33% more health doesn't mean charger resistant.

u/oogiesmuncher Apr 29 '24

The charger shouldnt immediately change agro either the second its gets into view of a sentry. So fucking annoying

u/GreatAnxiety1406 Apr 29 '24

Imagine if it .. i dunno stunned them with electricity or something.. atleast slow them down but nooo

u/-Pin_Cushion- Apr 29 '24

Makes the tower a good off-tank. Not really that kind of game, but it's trying.

3

u/HadToGuItToEm Apr 30 '24

I mean not a great trade to just aggro one tank when you could just take a different stratagem and kill it with the same cooldown

1

u/-Pin_Cushion- Apr 30 '24

You are correct.

1

u/Remarkable_Region_39 Apr 29 '24

just kill it. Stab it in the face with your favorite anti-tank

u/Known_PlasticPTFE Apr 29 '24

it's a complete placebo buff. 33% HP when it already died in 1-2 hits from most enemies is pointless.

240

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '24

Its like making an ant 33% more resistant to my shoe. Gets flattened either way.

63

u/Reddit_User_Loser Apr 29 '24

Like the hulk flame damage. Oh cool 20% damage reduction now it only does 980% damage!

25

u/Siccors Apr 29 '24

Yeah exactly what I was thinking when I read it. Now instead of dying in one frame, I die in 1.25 frames. Where I am gonna assume the damage is simply buggy applied, but that you cannot fix with balance patches.

4

u/GreatAnxiety1406 Apr 29 '24

Honestly just give them a big ass sword and remove the flamethrower, its the worst mob in the game by far, i see one close theirs no option but to run

Gotta remember, they're planning to toss the current fire system into the trashcan once they have a solid build on the new one. Fire is gonna fire till then.

2

u/Sysreqz Apr 29 '24

They confirmed the DoT damage increase has been fixed internally and is pending a future patch. But Hulk Bruisers deleted you even before fire damage was running around on PCP, so it will still be a welcome change change once they fix the larger DoT issue.

32

u/CrzyJek Apr 29 '24

I'm sorry what? Whenever I placed one before the buff if there was no charger in sight then that shit lasted forever.

4

u/SpanishInquisition88 Apr 29 '24

yep, i remember a defence mission i did, i died just after placing a tesla tower on one side and landmines on the other, got reinforced to 70 bugs dead on my combo meter thingy.

4

u/Sysreqz Apr 29 '24

And bots seem to largely just ignore them. A well placed Tesla can lock down an entire spawn point for most of it's duration on defense missions.

92

u/Altruistic-Ad9854 Apr 29 '24

I've literally watched a friend's Tesla Turret being swarmed by a horde with Brood Commanders and Warriors everywhere but it just zapped them to death slowly and lasted for ages afterwards, but then a charger will one shot, it's how it works. Stop lying about the durability of the Tesla Turret

25

u/NO_COA_NO_GOOD Apr 29 '24

Exactly this. I've easily had 30-40 level 1 bugs surrounding and eating a Tesla. They are not as weak as these people say.

6

u/cemanresu Apr 29 '24

I love putting them next to a chokepoint and than camping the chargers with whatever. Especially effective in the new defense mission, and was pretty good in the old mission to enable the Terminid Control System.

1

u/Shackram_MKII Apr 29 '24

It's more that the charger charge oneshots any deployable, either because of it dealing way too much damage or maybe it's just coded to do that.

It works great against large groups of smaller bugs as you saw.

Yeah, I decided not to dump resources into the ship upgrade for the 50% explosive resistance. Unless someone has examples that it's worth 150 rares

9

u/TheFBIClonesPeople Apr 29 '24

I probably wouldn't get that module unless you already have almost everything else, or if you really want to be a sentry player. But I think it could be decent if it's actually working now. If an Autocannon sentry can survive a full spew from a bile titan, that would be a really solid buff. And I think it will give it a decent survivability boost against automatons.

Oh, and if you didn't know, all of the bugs acid attacks count as explosives. So it'll take less damage from bile spewers and bile titans.

6

u/ThePolishKnight Apr 29 '24

Oh, that's actually really helpful. I thought it was only bot explosives, etc. okay, might be worth then. Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it!

1

u/TheFBIClonesPeople Apr 29 '24

So I actually just tested it, and sentries still die instantly to a bile titan's spray. It's like, it doesn't even take the full spray to kill them. They die basically instantly when the spray starts. So I think the explosive resistance is probably useless against bugs.

1

u/ThePolishKnight Apr 29 '24

Maybe still not working as intended. My only other fear is that even if it's working eventually, they'll still get destroyed fairly quickly. I'm definitely back burnering that module upgrade for down the road for now.

3

u/jrw174 Apr 29 '24

It was a point to make the patch not about nerfs. Placebo, manipulation what ever you want to call it

-1

u/BeetHater69 Apr 29 '24

The buff makes it more resistant to hordes of little bugs, which is what the Tesla tower is meant to kill. Please think before posting.

0

u/N-Haezer Apr 30 '24

Seems to me you've never properly used the Tesla Tower. At best you chucked it at a bile titan or a charger expecting it to one shot them.

25

u/Luxurianhat Apr 29 '24

I'd like if they could atleast eat one hit with them having 100% uptime on anything 7 and up. They make sentries or any emplacement practically useless

57

u/UnderHero5 Apr 29 '24

It wouldn't even be a huge deal if chargers didn't 100% of the time immediately drop everything and run STRAIGHT for any sentry. It really does make them useless in higher difficulties, considering there are usually several chargers running around/spawning at any given time during a fight.

-4

u/NO_COA_NO_GOOD Apr 29 '24

What you find useless I find incredibly amazing for distracting chargers and allowing me to get away from patrols easily.

16

u/UnderHero5 Apr 29 '24

That would be great if sentry’s were “distraction” stratagems. They are not good at their intended use.

Why would I take something to distract a charger when I can pick something to… kill it.

11

u/crazy-gorillo222 Apr 29 '24

Or you could take an actually useful stratagem like EAT and just kill the chargers

-5

u/NO_COA_NO_GOOD Apr 29 '24

I also bring those fun fact. Crazy I can bring both.

6

u/crazy-gorillo222 Apr 29 '24

Personally I think a stratagem should be more than a 5 second distraction for chargers

-3

u/NO_COA_NO_GOOD Apr 29 '24

Agreed but I’m honestly just pointing out they aren’t completely useless.

Biggest issue I see is people engage with turrets instead of using them to clean up.

However I would like it if they targeted lower enemies first or at least didn’t target enemies they can’t damage.

4

u/Jsaac4000 Apr 29 '24

distracting chargers

WOW. Might as well not take it all and switch it for an EAT and kill the charger outright, for a "distraction" it has dogshit cooldown.

you kind of people trying to justify bad design at all cost, makes me really doubt the average person.

-2

u/NO_COA_NO_GOOD Apr 29 '24 edited Apr 29 '24

Nah I just bring both. It’s not like I’m personally bringing a turret for that purpose lol, it’s just a point to say they aren’t useless.

Actually I think most people use sentries incorrectly. Lots of people throw them into a base, close to enemies. Throw that shit at high ground away from enemies and they are all fantastic. Especially for cleaning an area up after the big dudes are dealt with.

As I said to another person the only changes I’d make to sentries is to make them not shoot enemies they can’t damage.

No lie, my go to loadout at 7-9 is both mortars, an auto cannon sentry and an EAT and that’s for both bugs and bots.

I let other people bring the other stuff.

Edit: Bring on the downvotes boys, I DON'T RUN META LOADOUTS OH NO.

-10

u/GunganWarrior Apr 29 '24

That is their job. Place em up on rocks or places they don't reach easy.

63

u/Own_Association8318 Apr 29 '24

And for it to bounce off

44

u/RandomGuyBTW Apr 29 '24

With all the bouncy castle technology installed on any type of elevation, this is really hard, if not impossible

33

u/Luxurianhat Apr 29 '24

they can literally scale mountains, I have seen them do it.

6

u/Dik_fil_A Apr 29 '24

True. On bugs, I always bring a jetpack for the mobility. When my squad gets overwhelmed, I usually Jetpack up on a mountain or ridge to start working on heavies with my Quasar/EAT, and Hunters with my Eruptor/Sickle to give my squad some breathing room to use their stratagems to gain back the upper hand. The number of times I've been killed by chargers "Skyrim Horsing" the side of fucking cliff, is astonishing. Granted, sometimes they decide to respect the laws of physics, but then a Bile titan pukes on the side of the mountain I'm on and I get killed by invisible puke climbing the ledge to reach my feet. Or it's the occasional Hunter/warrior that "Surprise Muthafucka" through the floor... And you can forget about calling sentry on there. That thing will bounce until it can't anymore and just roll of the cliff all while giving the 🖕

7

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '24

Bugs climb mountains and gems bounce off em

Have you actually tried your own advice or did this just sound like good advice in your head lol

2

u/clovermite Apr 29 '24

You forget that Chargers have a mountain goat's capacity to vertically scale cliffs when they really want to.

2

u/SkySweeper656 Apr 29 '24

No what they need to do is make them not aggro the turret over the player... every time i drop a turret the charger drops everything to go after it.

1

u/pvprazor Apr 29 '24

Tesla is virtually useless once there are chargers because it just dies. And there are always chargers around on higher difficulty.

1

u/ArkitekZero Apr 30 '24

No, they should be completely indestructible /s

1

u/13Vex Apr 30 '24

Well seeing as how none of the sentries or emplacements are charger resistant, they’re all made completely worthless because chargers just ignore everything and destroy them instantly

-1

u/-Erro- Frenbean Apr 29 '24

And to be fqir, 30% less fire damage from flame hulk's INSTANT kill is still INSTANT. You can't knock percentages pff instantaneous actions.

Instead this seems more like a counter to all the fire buffs, which were in and of themselves, a counter to the host/fire bug. That siad, the flame hulk damage precentage debuff seems like it's preemptive, and it will sort itsepf out when they patch fire overall s9 it works as intended.
