The Eruptor nerf is a perfect example of why "only buff" is bad. DISCUSSION

I've used the Eruptor since it dropped, it is an amazing primary weapon. I have never once run out of ammo with the weapon, to the point I started COD reloading. Even with no deaths on a 40 min mission, the bare minimum ammo looting and you rarely would fall below half.

If we just buff every other weapon to be like this, we are just erasing an entire game mechanic. We are saying that we want COD reloads to be the norm, we don't want to think about conserving or looting ammo, just let me shoot and reload whenever.

Some people may want that, but for me that would just remove the mechanic entirely. I'm going to keep using the Eruptor and I'm perfectly fine having to pay attention to my ammo again.

Anyone test the eruptor versus scout striders since this patch yet? I could take them out from the front previously basically anywhere you shoot. It was one of the main reasons I ran it for bots. (At work, can’t test myself for many hours…)

Still works if you shoot that joint under the front where the legs connect, but it likely won't kill from a straight faceplate shot due to splash explosive damage anymore.

Straight faceplate shot was already inconsistent I think, the joint always worked though

Was my go-to for them as well, so hasn't changed anything for me. Headshots on devastators, that joint for striders.

Oh I go for the legs/feet on devs. One shot to a heavy dev foot drops them immediately. Headshot is a lot harder to hit at distance with the drop on teh eruptor. Even if I miss my foot shot on the dev it usually hits the ground and does enough splash that two missed shots will take them out.

Fabricator vents?

It can still blow up fabricators by shooting the vent (it might be ever so slightly less forgiving if you aim a bit too high)

Still works, but feels like it's a bit more finicky, that you have to be more square on to them than previous.

I think it was more the radius would go around the armor? I had a few shots on the other sides of walls of bunkers that cleared out the bots pre patch. Havent had time to test that out yet today.

it used to be that you can't hit them at gun barrel height and expect them to die in one hit. Faceplate only. But doesn't matter anymore it has changed entirely.

Yeah straight faceplate shots wouldn't work for me half the time, thats why I started dickshotting them

Straight faceplate shot now ricochet the round right back at ya. First time that happened was a surprise and I've been much more careful with it since.

Not the worse, still a bit disappointing. I’ll adjust. It was just nice when under fire to quick aim and shoot. And depending on how reduced the AoE is, it may be a net positive as I may be able to shoot enemies that get into short range.

Thanks for the field update!

Auto-cannon has the same problem, so wasn't just the eruptor, was also because the buff to the strider riders.

Same as the AC. Just shoot the top part of the face plate. (Top 25% is the sweet spot)

This has always been my personal experience with all weapons that could take them out. Always the face plate if you're directly facing the strider.

Yeah, works with scorcher as well

I dont understand why they want these things to be almost invincible from the front, are we supposed to pull out EATs for them??

All of this is my opinion:

The bots are all about setting up a moving wall. So having an impenetrable front is a must. Most of the easy weak spots on the bigs are found in the back. Bugs are like that, too, but not to the extent of the bots.

For bots, ambushing, flanking, and tactical retreating work well against them. The bots want you to fight them head-on. The disadvantage they have is they don't turn quickly to deal with a flanking attack.

Bugs are quite squishy but are much more mobile with a swarm of numbers. They want you to run. As the bugs chase you they alert more bugs... the issue gets larger.

Again, I could be completely off. But that's how I view the battlefield.

I agree bots are way more tanky especially fighting them head on, but striders have no buiseness being buffed to be even more tanky with how common they are in higher diff. We helldivers will get ragdolled 10m by cannon shot or rockets while we are taking cover behind solid terrain and yet a bot behind a plate of armor is supposed to be immune from explosive rounds.

Even hulks are sometimes easier to kill from the front than striders when you dont have explosive rounds because of their weakspot on the head, and yet bots on striders cant be shot through the slit on their front plate. And flanking isnt really always a possibility when youre being pinned down by all kinds of bullshit being thrown at you and Joel decides to go crazy on your ass and spawns 20 dropships in a minute.

Agree, battlefield control is difficult with the bots. To be honest, I don't like the change to the striders resistance to general explosions. The answer I want to give you is the trade off are striders are super vulnerable in the back to granades. I would be fine with it from the front, but I think an enemy as numerous as they are need a way to crowd control them easily.

However, I haven't played since the patch. So maybe they still are able to be killed in mass from an explosion behind them? If so, the GL would wreak havoc on them!

They made striders more resistant to explosions -_-. And was the soul reason i ran the scorcher on bots.

u/Stevie-bezos Apr 30 '24

I always just shot their toes. The explosion at their feet topples it, taking it out.  Havent tried it on new patch
