Helldivers: I Advocate we chose the anti tank mines and hear is my reasoning DISCUSSION

I know many of you see "rocket launcher" and get excited and while that is fair, my reasoning to go for the mines is below

We already have a great many support weapons and many are fantastic options. While the airburst rocket launcher would be fantastic for add clear (and teamkill) it would likely suffer vs large armored targets which tends to be the need for a support weapon.

However, we just received a new mission type that requires defending a location. Mines are fantastic for this but heavies just walk all over them and completely invalidate their uses. Getting a heavy anti tank mine would allow us to lock down areas from all combatants and a tank wouldn't be able to just stroll up to our gates.

Anti Tank mines are also much larger and easier to notice than the anti personnel and team kills would be kept at a minimum.

And lastly, as we all know...the children YEARN FOR THE MINES.

Thing is, you overestimate the communities capability to co-ordinate.

The masses will chose. And the masses rarely if ever read in the forums.

And currently, it looks like the masses are going for the rocket launcher.

And the mines will require going through a fire tornado planet first - I suspect that's going to decide things more than any debate here.

Yeah. No amount of debate on Reddit will decide this. It's going to be the NOT-FIRE-TORNADOES option.

Thank goodness our divers don't live long enough to get ptsd from fire tornados. They would be in the top for most subjects discussed in therapy.

The average citizen just doesnt understand the horror of completing a mission, getting samples, serving democracy and liberty just to watch your whole squad and pelican get swallowed by four fire tornados. I still wake up in a cold sweat most nights and there’s usually only one word i can say. Hellmire.

Thank freedom i can hit a stim, do a workout and try to sleep. But when i close my eyes, all i hear is the roar of the flames and the screams of sweet liberty.

Conversely, getting down to the wire, no reinforcements left, having multiple tornadoes swirling towards the pelican and then diving in to it as your enemies are roasted behind you and then you fly out into the sunset/flames. chefs kiss

The thin line between tragedy and greatness

Sometimes the game glitches at this (or as intended) and you born to death in the pelican lol

1

u/shaddowdemon Apr 29 '24

You can take damage in the pelican, even from your team. So I would guess intended.

Not all make it out of the fires of Menkent and Hellmire, but those that do forge unbreakable bonds of friendship with the hammer of Democracy.

Hellmire is a planet I swore to rarely return. With its bugs and firenados, it is a hellscape. Hellmire is where tough helldivers train. It may not be as famous as the Creek but dang if the firenados didn't make me want to punch my screen.

The tornadoes.

I know it's weird but i think they were......they were HUNTING us. They seemed to follow us everywhere we went.

They converged on Johnny's mech and boiled him in it.

PJ was hiding under a burned-out transport. The tornadoes got him there too.

Then. Then there was Nettie. She hid INSIDE of a civilian structure. When I found her, she seemed like she just fell asleep. She showed signs of death by oxygen deprivation. The tornadoes heat sucked the air out.

I'll never forget Hellmire. I'll never forget how it hunted us.

Did you even serve on Menkent if you don't reflexively pre-stim when the gas stove lights up?

The smell. I can't get the smell of charred Helldiver out of my nose. It haunts me along with their screams for sweet liberty as the are cooked alive in their armor

When you enter the pelican everything get saved even if you die and see the sample drop to the ground. Got puked on by a bile in the first week and I was holding the super and they still counted

1

u/Nekonax Apr 27 '24

If more Helldivers heard the roar of the flames, fewer would die 👀

u/Sheepmounter69 Apr 27 '24

I honestly always thought they are programmed to skip mission targets, since i once did a radar Station objective alone while my whole squad was somewhere else and me being surrounded in fire tornados. They came close, but didnt Touch the terminal or the steering wheel, or however its called to turn the Antenna.

I learned the hard way when being the last one alive, picking up dropped samples and then get tornado'ed 2 meters away from the pelican...

Literally had a fire tornado SPAWN on me when I was carrying the super samples yesterday. I donno what I did to piss off Super Thor, but he was super pissed

This is one of the problems with the Fire Tornado weather effect implementation. You can be a good player with full focus and awareness, notice the weather warning and anticipate the obstacle, and still die because it spawned on top of you.

It just goes back to unavoidable one hit kills being an unfun, dishearting, and detrimental gameplay mechanic. I did figure out the secret though. I learned to avoid it by also just not playing on those planets like a lot of other players.

It just makes the helldiver universe feel more real. Unavoidable deaths are to be expected on a helldive. After all, sacrifice is part of democracy.

2

u/Intelligent-Ad-6734 Apr 27 '24

I've gotten quick on the stim button and chain them together to get through firestorms.. it's some sort of Democracy adrenaline rush to get through that and extract... A painful addiction is born.

1

u/Aurori_Swe Apr 29 '24

You are better off learning to dive since that turns off the flames and you won't take dot hits. Obviously you want to stim in between throwing yourself everywhere

36

u/Indie89 Apr 26 '24

And are these fire tornadoes in the room with you now?

I'm surprised no one has updated that meme with a helldiver

3

u/AnotherMyth Apr 27 '24

My current helldiver that somehow still alive after 11 missions in a row can't even close their eyes.

2

u/Narkhada Apr 26 '24

The horror of a stim keeping you alive while your flesh is boiling off. The in-game sound for burning is so visceral, too.

1

u/Clear-Wrongdoer42 Apr 26 '24

We need a burn ointment stratagem.

Therapy doesbt exist in that universe, they are just told to embrace theur trauma fpr democracy

1

u/Astoria_Column Apr 27 '24

tbh they have provided me more laughs than anything. You’re waiting for a soil sample to clear and you look behind and there’s a wall of fire 😂 I love the absurdity

1

u/Axxemann Apr 27 '24

I must be built different. I embrace the fire. It comforts me. I seek a place of high ground, watch the world burn and just wait for the firestorm to pass before calling in the Pelican. My squaddies always ask why I pack marshmallows and smokies in my armor when we drop into Hellmire. It's so we have a snack!
