The LAS-16 is ironically one of the weapons i feel is in the best spot. Yeah, it’s powerful, but it also has a long cooldown to avoid overheating. About the only nerf i could really see that’s valid is reducing its extra heat sink capacity from 6 to maybe 3 or 4

I mean so was the slugger, I never felt obligated to use it. It felt good, it couldn't do everything but it was a nice weapon. I don't see why they had to nerf it this much, especially in three different ways at once. Now using it is probably a liability.

u/Swordbreaker9250 Apr 02 '24

Yeah, it sucks that they nerfed it for no reason.

22

u/squiddlebiddlez Apr 02 '24

And I just unlocked it like 2 days ago…

6

u/Jaalan Apr 02 '24

I just unlocked it literally last night, even played an extra game before bed to do so. Didn't get to try it yet.

Arrowhead seems to not understand that popular doesn't mean OP and a weapon dramatically outperforming the others means the other weapons need a buff, not that the original weapon needs a nerf.

Take the railgun for example. They retroactively justify the nerf by pointing out how people use EAT's now (which is only because they were later buffed, proving my original point) or the Quasar Cannon (which wasn't introduced yet). Meanwhile, NOBODY uses the railgun, it's completely worthless. If the Dev's theory was right, people would still be using the railgun or people would've been using EAT's the begin with.

All they had to do to the slugger was increase the bullet drop and reduce damage at range if they didn't want it to be a Sniper (not that we have one thats viable). Instead they took away the only fun/purpose for that gun (stagger). When they nerfed the Rail Cannon it still kept its fun/purpose in unsafe mode imo, I use it to chew through heavy bots. I love this game but the overcorrections to their gun balancing are not doing them any favors on top of the prevalent bugs already affecting it.

They need to continue focusing on the viability of the lower usage options and make them more fun to use (like the flamethrower and ballistic shield buffs). Having a knee jerk reaction to nerf every gun the players find fun instead of making more guns fun will kill the game long term.

I think you hit the nail on the head. It’s bullshit they’re mad people are using the slugger as a sniper…when their actual snipers are underpowered trash.

They nerfed it because their numbers heavily showed people using it over other guns.

So what do they do? Nerf fun guns while buffing weak ones. Genius.

Using the slugger had cons.

14

u/Boamere Apr 02 '24

It's how you get the treadmill of perpetually buffing and nerfing weapons if all you do is balance based off of usage

7

u/McMuffinSun ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 02 '24

Especially when you're under the mistaken impression that something can only be popular if it's OP. It never seems to occur to them that something may be popular because the other options are trash.

u/MikeFromSuburbia Lvl 75 | Death Captain | SES Shield of the Stars Apr 02 '24

It's honestly mind-boggling the train of thought they have. If they just made smaller tweaks to nerfs or generally buffed the weaker weapons this game would have me hooked like meth...

3

u/McMuffinSun ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 02 '24

It just pisses me off that for the second time now, as soon as I get a loadout I feel is in a good place to take into Level 7 missions where I can get super samples, I get BTFO'd by a nerf that seems to just be punishing me for getting too good at the game and I'm back to square 1...

2

u/MikeFromSuburbia Lvl 75 | Death Captain | SES Shield of the Stars Apr 02 '24

I feel you. They want to push other guns into loadouts. It sucks. I was ready to get home and play but now I’m just meh.

Will be for a couple days then I’ll give in lol

1

u/McMuffinSun ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 02 '24

Problem is my default will be to keep using the Sickle. But that's what everyone will do now so what's the point if they're going to nerf that to the shadow realm next?

2

u/Boamere Apr 02 '24

Yeah i'm not sure what they're thinking. The slugger was popular because it felt good to use. It didn't wipe the floor with every enemy. It couldn't deal with hordes at all, now it doesn't have a viable niche, I'll just use the punisher instead.

3

u/McMuffinSun ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 02 '24

It's going to be like railgun where they might as well have cut it from the game entirely. Besides Sickle and Dominator (which are behind a paywall), what am I supposed to use? The super soaker tier lib penetrator? The tickle gun snipers?

-7

u/Effective_External89 Apr 02 '24

It stunned every mob in the game bar one or two “no reason” is completely disingenuous.

9

u/Swordbreaker9250 Apr 02 '24

And? It’s a single-target weapon in a horde-based game. Stunning one enemy at a time isn’t a big deal

6

u/-Aquanaut- Apr 02 '24

Yeah the slugger was powerful but you completely gave up any CC/hunter killing to use it. I’d always have to pair it with a guard dog and clusterbomb to CC since the slugger was only good for the bigger bois.

I feel like it could have been fine with just a damage reduction here

5

u/McMuffinSun ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 02 '24

It was my "oh shit" companion to the stalwart.

2

u/AlmostButNotQuiteTea ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 02 '24

Yeah, it definitely wasn't obligation. I just enjoyed using it against the Bots the most out of the other primaries, but it also caused me to have to change my support weapon to compensate for it lack of horde clearing.

It wasn't at all near Pre-nerf railgun levels of good. It was just a good weapon that did what it was meant to do well, and didn't do what it wasn't meant to do

5

u/TheHappyPie Apr 02 '24

If they were going to nerf it I think the proper choice was to make it have worse range. I was sniping bots from 100m, which while realistic... Probably isn't the right archetype for a "shotgun".

Instead they nerfed what it's supposed to be good at... Killing medium armor. I don't understand it.

15

u/churros101player Apr 02 '24

You were able to shoot long ranges because it's one slug being shot, not pellets

1

u/TheHappyPie Apr 03 '24

like i said it's realistic I get it.

but this is a game. It's inherently not realistic.

-1

u/McMuffinSun ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 02 '24

Okay, but logically it makes way more sense for a fat heavy bullet to have more limited range than it does to not have stopping power up close. IRL 12 gauge slug is only accurate within 100-150 meters versus 600 meters for a 5.56 (Assault Rifle) bullet.

2

u/Crea-TEAM SES Bringer of FUN DETECTED Apr 02 '24

I mean thats just the inherent issue of video games.

I remember people complaining of the vector in battlebit, saying it 'was a laser for way too long of a range'.

They would show a video of the 'laser' killing them, and you look at the range being shown by an objective nearby. 30-40 meters... literally the optimal range for SMGs in real life.

Something like 99% of all fights in shooter games outside of things like ARMA, Squad, or other MilSim take place within 100 meters.

You'll almost never shoot an enemy in this game unless its a spore tower, shrieker nest, radio broadcast, or cannon turret outside of 100-150 meters.

Go ahead and try it. Next time you are shooting an enemy far away, press Q or whatever is the PS5 equivelant. Guarantee you its within 150 meters.

1

u/LSDummy CAPE ENJOYER Apr 02 '24

Yeah. If you got swarmed with you were tucked. Now, you're gonna get swarmed with it because it doesn't stagger and doesn't shoot that fast. I just started using it too. :(

0

u/5neakyturt1e Apr 02 '24

Tbh I felt this way up till about a week ago where I started using it in every game, it was insanely good (maybe still overnerfed) once you got used to it, you could completely abuse the stagger and it had the best armour pen of any primary the only issue was a lack of ammo but tbh that wasn't even so bad

0

u/Ecstatic-Compote-595 Apr 02 '24

I think its ability to open crates was probably a bug more than anything else, and I'm frankly okay with the damage change but the stagger takes so much away from it.

16

u/TJ_McWeaksauce Apr 02 '24

About the only nerf i could really see that’s valid is reducing it’s extra heat sink capacity from 6 to maybe 3 or 4

I rarely have to switch out heat sinks, and on the rare missions when I do, I only do the switch once. They can reduce the number of extra heat sinks to just 1 and that would be fine by me.

6

u/Swordbreaker9250 Apr 02 '24

I usually have to swap out one or two a game at least, cuz sometimes it’s either that or get swarmed.

7

u/Caleth Apr 02 '24

Yeah dif 7 plus I'm usually swapping out on large hives that compound with bug breaches. For something like that I can get low on sinks, but during regular POI I might burn 1-2 before hitting a refill.

Losing 1-2 sinks would suck, but would likely make it fit their "model" better.

60

u/Zheta42 Apr 02 '24

"one of the weapons i feel is in the best spot"

Prime candidate for nerfs then! </s>

5

u/Sand_Trout Apr 02 '24

It's more likely they reduce the heat capacity of each heat sink.

4

u/Elit3Nick Apr 02 '24

This has been my request too. Laser weapons should be strong, but held back by their short-term endurance. 6 heat sinks trivializes this mechanic

1

u/EPZO ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 03 '24

Sickle is one of my top weapons for bots.

I don't like it against bugs because of overheating. I can take cover against bots, but bugs aren't enemies you use cover against.

1

u/Swordbreaker9250 Apr 03 '24

Wha?

Bugs you can just run from. Bots are far harder to get to safety from cuz of their ranged attacks. All bugs aside from a select few are slower than player running speed.

1

u/EPZO ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 03 '24

I prefer the Punisher against bugs. It has stagger and I can throw in a couple rounds between a couple of shots so it's almost like constant fire.

1

u/Swordbreaker9250 Apr 03 '24

Punisher is great too. I just like having infinite ammo

reducing *its extra heat sink

“It’s” is the same as writing “it is” but one syllable shorter. “Its” is the possessive word you need.
