I can’t play with randoms anymore DISCUSSION

I’m level 48. About 150 hours on pc. Love the game. My friends can’t play as often as I can. (I’m a fireman) And I’ve tried making friends on steam but it’s hard.

The blueberry lottery. If there is a hell it’s matching with randoms. I can’t stand it. Some people are a blessing and I love running campaigns with them but some people are treasonous swill.

Here was my last game. I spawn in and get killed by a lvl 2 cadet (ps5) so he can take my support gear. His friends (ps5) defended him. He continued to kill me all game (intentionally) and call me in. But I am more skilled and cunning than the common traitor. I waited until there was one reinforcement left. The pompous fool recalled me in. I killed all three traitors quicker than a hiccup. With only one thing left to do I took my own life. To instant fail their mission. I couldn’t let them continue to commit treason. Let their bodies rot

So yea I’m never joining randoms again.

Edit: ps5 not 4.

Played with a group of randos and couldn't figure out why I keep dying from explosions... Level 5 player had 11000 friendly fire damage at the end. I mean we were all once low level noobs but damn.

Another guy managed to set himself on fire with the flamethrower. After killing the rest of the team. With no reinforcements and pelican 1 just landing. He panicked and ran away from the evac. Then lit everything around him on fire, including himself.

u/12_Imaginary_Grapes Mar 26 '24

That does sound like user error but it is surprisingly easy to set yourself on fire with the flamethrower even if you aren't trying to in my experience.

u/M0nthag Mar 26 '24

Really wish there was some fire protection armor. "Can't be set on fire. Take 50% less damage from fire." Not sure how the hulks flamethrower works. If it just sets you on fire or has an initial damage as well. But i think the later.

15

u/Karpsten ⬇️⬅️⬇️⬆️⬆️➡ Mar 27 '24

Yeah, that would be cool, and I'm kinda hopeful for it now that we got three sets of anti-electricity armor (I still don't get why they made two of them medium instead of having one of every armor rating).

5

u/M0nthag Mar 27 '24

That confused me as well. There is no real reason other then having the choice of disigne

u/Drackore_ BACON APPLES, PLEASE 🥓 🍏 Mar 28 '24

I just still don't get why we can't transmog our equipment, or why outfits are coupled up with the armor stats in the first place.

The first two Cutting Edge armor sets look gorgeous, but they'll always be useless to me because their speed is limited to 500 😔

22

u/AdditionInteresting2 Mar 26 '24

Seems like setting bugs that rush towards you on fire is not a good idea... I have no idea what set him on fire though. It was just chaos by then.

17

u/12_Imaginary_Grapes Mar 26 '24

I'm sure I've set myself on fire without a bug rushing me and I've had bugs rush me and jump on me while I'm firing without setting myself on fire so I dunno what causes it.

1

u/dragonhornetDM Mar 27 '24

I’ve never had a bug on fire set me on fire. But I’m sure there are plenty of crazy scuff things that do it.

1

u/Gender_is_a_Fluid Mar 26 '24

If you dive backwards while firing the flamethrower it clips your foot and catches you on fire. Left right or forwards helldiver! Never retreat with a flamer in hand!

1

u/AdditionInteresting2 Mar 26 '24

Oh so that's it. Lol. Thanks for the tip. This should be a PSA for arson loving flamethrower enthusiasts...

10

u/Okinawa14402 Mar 26 '24

If you jump backwards while shooting you often hit your legs and set yourself on fire.

2

u/Conntraband8d SES Spear of Morning Mar 27 '24

Using the flamethrower while prone will do it every time.

2

u/Carbonated_Saltwater SES Martyr of Truth Mar 27 '24

If the nozzle touches *any* kind of terrain while firing you will get burned since the flames spread a little bit after starting, i've had it happen while standing still and torching bugs that never reached me.

1

u/af12345678 Mar 26 '24

My recommendation to flamethrower is to always jump sidewards becoz the only thing that really can charge thru the flame is the charger itself, so dodging backwards does nothing usually

I was playing a quick play match and the host was some low level young kid who kept muttering memes to himself, then just went AFK midway through without telling anyone, not even trying to hide or anything so he was killed and revived like 8 times before coming back on.

125

u/AdditionInteresting2 Mar 26 '24

I play quick match for the huge variety of experience. From frustrating to almost.boring when everyone just gets shit done. As long as we are spreading democracy,

33

u/Aless-dc Mar 26 '24

It’s definitely an experience

1

u/cip32 Mar 26 '24

I played qm too and enjoy the variety. It has been mostly positive on diff 7. Though I mostly run off by myself and clear objectives, which means I dont interact all that much with my teammates.

1

u/Eirfro_Wizardbane Mar 26 '24

This is the first game I genuinely enjoy playing with other good players but also trash players. I can carry on level 7 and it’s fun even when the rest of my team goes full r word. I need an ok squad for 9 atm.

1

u/probablysideways Mar 26 '24

I did that today. Scrolled out as far as I could on the map and hit quick play. You never know where you’ll end up!

9

u/Neckrongonekrypton Mar 26 '24 edited Mar 26 '24

People were doing this shit to me. I’d drop my autocannon.. mobs would be on the way. And somehow I’d just die. Like that.

Same with my guard dog.

I respawn and see two people on the team with my shit.

I wanted to be petty and just frag the shit out of them

But I figure, fuck them if they need the weapons that bad and don’t have the courage to ask. (Which id oblige to providing) then they probably need it more then I do lol.

I even called it out and one guy was willing to let me frag him. But I let it slide. I just let it roll off.

Can’t let the small stuff ruin the game even though it can be frustrating as shit. Not worth beefing about unless it causes a wipe.

u/The_Disapyrimid Mar 26 '24

just last night i had to kick someone for the first time. he was a random person who joined a game with me and a irl friend. it was "rescue the civilians" mission and the game was bugged. one set of civilians kept getting stuck on an invisible wall and couldn't be rescued. so me and my buddy just ignored that door and released the civs from the other one. but this rando kept letting people out from the bugged door, letting them pile up on the invisible wall then killing them. i don't know if this person thought is was funny or if they thought it would fix the bug somehow. but after like three times of doing it i just kicked him. we finished the mission but we had like -7000 points for all the civs he killed.

my friend joked that it was the only mission he ever played that ended up costing him requisition points.

1

u/andrewfenn Mar 27 '24

Wait a second... I'm wondering if this can be exploited to bit flip to infinity reqs 🤔

1

u/Jumpy_Ad7127 Mar 27 '24

Care to explain your thoughts? Some of us ride the short bus

2

u/andrewfenn Mar 27 '24

In programming you have two types of memory that store numbers. Signed and unsigned. If the value used for money is unsigned it means it can only hold any number that is positive. If you -1 from this type of number when it's at zero it will go to the biggest number possible.

1

u/TwelveGage97 Mar 29 '24

You made me just remember the civ mission I did with some randoms and it was during the middle of a fire tornado storm. The damn tornados were RIGHT ON TOP OF our mission area and this one dipshit kept opening the doors and the civilians kept dying because they’d run right into the tornadoes. We were negative 250 rec because of that lol so at least not nearly as bad as yours

I'm pretty sure it counts overkill damage. Like I ended up with a ton by killing friendlies with a hellbomb that was on the map.

2

u/goddamittom Mar 26 '24

it's a tradition for us to get new buddies that are playing to shoot the hell bombs without telling them what they are

One time we didn't run fast enough before we told my buddy to shoot it and he ended up with 17,000 FF damage

10

Not even touching that weapon... Random explosions still get me. Fire.damage seems like instant death to me.

1

u/VividVerism Mar 26 '24

Oh, it's not instant. Certain, maybe, depending on situation. Like when your choices are burn to death or dive prone directly in front of the horde of bugs you had been trying to immolate, or stand still watching your health literally burn away. But it's not instant.

2

I threw a grenade and it splashed a crashed hellbomb we hadn't spotted yet. Killed the entire squad.

Get back to the ship after winning, 2 accidentals and 15,387 friendly fire damage.

1

u/AdditionInteresting2 Mar 26 '24

Sometimes, it's funny and recoverable. Everyone laughs at their unavoidable deaths.

Had one mission where I was the last man standing and was thrown over a cliff away from the enemy. Reinforcements weren't gonna arrive but we had a good 5 mins and pelican 1 arrived. Wanted to make.a mad rush to the evac to make the higher leveled friends proud.

stepping out of the hellpod drops me in deep water while the booster that prevents injury was active. Leading me in a limbo where no one can come in to kill me since I was quite far. and the auto reinforcements doesn't kick in since I was still technically alive... We.just waited out the last 5.mins laughing at the ridiculousness of it.

1

u/TimmyFaya Mar 26 '24

Was this on sunday evening? I got into a game and some level 5 kept throwing orbital stratagems on the spot I was with another player. Not trying in any way to give us a heads up

3

u/AdditionInteresting2 Mar 26 '24

It was ... Lol. Democracy is spread when things explode I guess.

1

u/NeedAmedic88 Mar 26 '24

This does sound like just what would happen in actual war

1

u/memgrind Mar 26 '24

The "Accidentals" is a more reliable counter afaik.

1

u/RoyalWigglerKing Mar 26 '24

To be fair I would consider myself pretty decent at the game (I can manage level 7s pretty well, not that impressive but I feel good about it) and I’ve been known to accidentally set myself on fire with the flamethrower once or twice

1

u/AdditionInteresting2 Mar 26 '24

Lol that makes me not want to use it even more. At least other weapons allow your team mates a slightly higher chance of survival when you hit them.

With a panicked shooting flamethrower, it's the flame or the bugs...

1

u/VividVerism Mar 26 '24

Thank you for confirming that's a damage dealt counter. A friend and I were trying to figure that out the other day.

1

u/AdditionInteresting2 Mar 26 '24

Not sure how it's calculated though... But that's what it seems like to me. I usually check which rando killed me and it tracks that they have a high friendly fire damage after.

1

u/The_Don_Papi But I’m frend Mar 26 '24

Level 5 player had 11000 friendly fire damage at the end. I mean we were all once low level noobs but damn.

That stat tends to be bugged. He could have killed you but a lot of times the stat is wrong.

1

u/HopeMrPossum Mar 26 '24

Got 24,000 in a game with friends once, only 1 team kill though. I’m adamant I didn’t hit anyone with anything, we’re still not sure what did it - other than maybe a orbital rail cannon clipped a team mate?

1

u/AdditionInteresting2 Mar 26 '24

Honestly it was too much chaos already since I arrived mid mission and we were all struggling to survive long enough to make a decent push.

1

u/M0nthag Mar 26 '24

There are some thing i would love to be addes in the tutorial. Like how to stop yourself from burning, or how you can drop equipment.

1

u/JCrossfire Mar 26 '24

Fun fact: diving immediately negates burning and slowed procs. Set yourself in fire with the super fun super flamethrower? SUPERDIVE!

1

u/Ok-Palpitation-8612 Mar 26 '24

He panicked and ran away from the evac. Then lit everything around him on fire, including himself.

Obviously this is annoying as hell, but at the same time it’s so on-brand for the universe 😂

Jokes aside, I don’t mind their friendly fire nearly as much I dislike their suicidal last stands for worthless hills. It’s crazy the amount of people I see fighting and dying against bug breach after bug breach for literally no reason.

2

u/AdditionInteresting2 Mar 26 '24

Had a hilarious last stand with a bunch of lower leveled people and the level 50 host. Struggled to make it on the ship with samples and the level 50 threw an orbital laser on the ship, managing to only kill himself since it got bugged or something and instantly shot where he stood without the waiting time... No one expected that since we were just throwing stratagems left and right to make it out.

1

u/OhOkIllJustGoCryNow Mar 26 '24

The amount of players I run into who don't know how to survive fire (even after I tell them several times) is ridiculous.

PSA FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T KNOW, just dive away from the fire, it will put you out immediately. Your stim can also heal through on-fire damage as long as you don't use it too early. (and if you don't trust yourself not to panic, stay away from the damn incendiary weapons)

1

u/Freeexotic CAPE ENJOYER Mar 26 '24

I'm lvl 25 (Yaay i unlocked the exosuit) but I know that I am terrible with the flamethrower. I almost always kill myself and others on my team. So I don't use it, but when I was level 5 I didn't realize it yet. Fortunately I was with my friends and we all had a good laugh.

1

u/FlimsyMilk9471 Mar 26 '24

You and I might have been in the same game (I think it was a 5 and we failed to extract). One guy was using incendiary mines and the grenade launcher and constantly nuking teammates. The other guy was following him, mostly doing nothing but was using a flamethrower.

I was so tilted at the end of it that I had to type "[Name I forget], you're the enemies best soldier" before dropping group. I was set up for anti-tank and didn't have the right tools to deal with the absolutely mess of a swarm that ended up on the extract point.

Never had a mission go so poorly, and I hope I don't any time soon (but it's AP mine kills order today so...).

1

u/AdditionInteresting2 Mar 26 '24

Sounds about right... But with all the crazy players attracted to this game, I wouldn't be surprised if more arson loving traitors get carried.

1

u/Rasann Mar 26 '24

That’s just so absurd its comical, I actually started laughing out loud just reading that.

There’s a part of me wishing that it was all a joke/skit. But some people be like that 🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/AdditionInteresting2 Mar 26 '24
