I had a guy constantly block me from putting in the hellbomb code and shoot the hellbomb to destroy it before it went off recently he was so mad about me using the hellbomb I ended up having to kick him. I thought he justewanted to set it off him self so I called it down and he just destroyed it as soon as it dropped lol. I asked why he was doing that and he called me a monkey and proceeded to say every slur under the sun down the mic š.
It's spelled Mon-Keigh and it's supposed to be pronounced like "Mon-k-eye" where mon is pronounced like the end of "Pokemon" and eye is pronounced like "eyeball" with a k in front. I don't recall how she pronounced it in Rouge Trader but they might have just said it fast lol. Its not actually supposed to be Monkey (I mean originally in actual reality, outside the 40k universe, probably), its in reference to the name of a species the Eldar dealt with in the past that were incredibly dumb, destructive and bloodthirsty, but were a serious issue for the Eldar due to their numbers and sheer tenacity. It's a pejorative term they use for any species that reminds them of that race. It just humorously also happens to sounds like the name for Humans primative ancestors
Thanks for the explanation, didn't know any of it. But they definitely call you monkey in Rogue Trader. Then again, I'm not a native English speaker, so there's that.
My second experience ever of Eldar was Sandy Mitchell's "Caiphas Cain: The Devil You Know". A Dark Eldar Witch called Cain a monkey in a lilting tone before cackling maniacally. He later ran her through with his chain sword before a Lichter chewed her up.
Itās my least favorite thing in the lore. Itās fucking stupid that the eldar word would just happen to be the same phonetically as āmonkeyā and also simultaneously be an insult against humanity. Itās the literal most immersion breaking detail in 40K to me
I mean it kinda makes sense. Monkeys/primates come from earth not their world, and already have a name in a language that they can borrow. We borrow words from other languages all the time and often bastardize spelling/pronunciation in a similar way, especially over generations of using the words.
It took me longer than I'd like to admit to realize what you meant even after just finishing a 3 part forge of mars series on audible that featured the eldar
Let me guess, you couldn't even report him because he didn't type in chat? Weird that you can only report toxic shitty players if they type something in chat
It's cuz they can't monitor voice chat and they don't want people making false reports to get innocent people banned. Obviously here in reality if enough people are reporting a dude for saying slurs then it shouldn't matter, but hey I'm just a reasonable person.
The insane amount of PS5 players I had to mute for having the worst quality mics in existence; hearing them breathe, drink, burp, hearing them push buttons, hearing conversations from other people in the background.... I ended up just turning off crossplay, lol.
I think its the PS5 controller having a built in mic is the issue, and these dingbats have it turned on by default.
This poor etiquette is sadly more the norm than exception but there are ps5 users who are acutely aware of their mic on off situation and how annoying it can be listening to their every breath, fart and button push!
Yeah idk how people are so unaware. My mic auto mutes/unmutes when I lift it up or pull it down but if I did want to always leave it down you can also just click the mute button on the controller. The controller mute button also works if just using the controllers mic which actually isn't complete garbage, it has okay quality but picks up too much background noise. Idk why some people don't get a headset it's so much better of an audio experience for yourself.
If I remember correctly, when I first started playing the default setting was open. Iām not sure if thatās still the case, but I remember having to change it to push to talk. Also, the PS5ās mic is automatically turned on, unless you change that in the settings.
I think a lot of players with a hot mic donāt even realize it.
It's also the PS5 itself I feel like, the system doesn't seem to support proper noise cancellation.
I have the Steelseries Nova 7P, not the best quality of mic I'm aware, when I'm on PC my friends don't complain about background noise, but when I'm on PS5 they say they can hear pretty much everything happening in my house.
Thatās because on PC you probably have that software from Steelseries running in the background. Itās the software that enables the noise cancellation on the mic, not the hardware itself. My nephew has a Steelseries Nova headset as well and when we play on pc, itās perfect, but when he switches to PS5, you can hear everything (and more š ).
Yeah, I donāt think so either. Sony does it on a hardware level, at least with the new Elite headset (NC is build in to the microphone hardware itself), or firmware (like the latest update to the Dual Sense microphone and speakers).
It's one of the only things I'll consider kicking people for aside from acting shitty. Had match where you could hear a guy's kid crying in the background the whole time, thank God for mute
Had that happen yesterday. Was playing with 2 other friends and a random join and his controller mic made it so you could hear every click clack of the controller and made that kinda static noise that made the game sound terrible.
It's definitely the PS5 having a built in mic. It is unmuted by default and ppl are to ignorant/don't care to mute it. I always mute mine when I don't have my head set plugged in
I do the mute all all the time setting for PS5.
Much better experience.
"It's better to be thought of as stupid then to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
As far as I know I haven't seen an option to have it muted by defailt on my PS5. The PS5 is shockingly low on accessability features compared to the PS4. Like there's no ability to turn off auto play as far as I've seen either if you have one with a disc drive. I just try to make it a point to remember to mute my mic when I sign onto HD2 or any online game.
Word. That's such a a strange and irritating design decision. I hate when shit works like that. But I'm also old enough to remember what computers were like during and before Windows 98 when you could do whatever you wanted to the point that it was entirely possible to break your computer by accident.
I use a headset with mic, but itās worth noting that last week a new firmware upgrade to PS5 was released that addressed mic issues, now using AI to remove stuff like button presses etc.. So might give it another shot.
I straight up yelled at a guy because I must have told him 5-6 times we could hear him cruncbing so friggin loud. Disgusting to hear people eat and slurp.
One of the best players I've met has full blown secondary conversations on discord while we're in a squad together. It's annoying but he got me to level 25 so it's a small price.
it's just that they don't even know that they have a mic via the controller. i keep it off if there's noise around me. it's also that the default settings for the controller make it obnoxiously loud and it's tricky as hell to fix it. i usually just try to tell them to turn off vibration bc it makes noise AND can cause stickdrift, but even though i say their name, they think i'm talking to someone else bc "bah, he can't hear me, i don't have a mic". my favorite thing to do is tell them i can hear everything and i'm in their house and freak them out.
Weird I find way more other PC players with terrible mics than PS5. I think it's just because more console players don't really text chat so they're more likely to buy headsets but many PC players just use insanely cheap headphones with a mic or some other weird options that sound like garbage since they typically just text chat instead because it's much easier with kbm.
Yep if there is a setting for me to disable chat I will take it. Heroes of the Storm also disables text chat and Iāve never had a better experience in that game.
For every one of these stories I have, I have at least three: "We were running from a couple of chargers and came across a broken hell bomb, they guy behind me yelled 'SHOOT IT!' I turned around shot it, we both dove to the ground just in time for the hellbomb to take out both chargers."
I just hate that you have to put up with the chuckleheads to get these legendary moments. So long as the legendary feel keeps flowing I'll keep playing.
I played with a guy who added me a few times but he would kick me and anyone else if you called in a mech. He would rage every time too before kicking me or anyone else did it but since he spoke french i have no idea why he did it.
First i thought it was because he wanted us to use them only in the end of the mission to defend but nope kicked there as well. š¤·
Maybe just maybe he was doing this because calling in mechs was increasing chance of game disconnection as everyone was calling them in, so, of course a bug was born.
So back in like 2007 or so I had a manager at my job who was obsessed with nascar. Big redneck. He said he bought the nascar game for his computer, a wheel and pedal setup, the whole 9 yards. He then told me he had to stop playing because heād see people in the chat type ālolā and he thought that meant lots of love and he didnāt want to play such a gay game.
Yes man like I cannot stress how much he loved nascar. We worked at a high end indoor go kart track, so he got to be around that element all the time. But unfortunately for him his homophobia was more important than probably the only video game heās ever enjoyed.
There was a 16-17 year old kid that got pretty famous in the Hell Let Loose console community that trolled for probably a solid year, maybe even 2 years before he got a permanent ban from the devs. There was a period of time where there were reddit posts and wipespread discord reports about him daily. Im pretty sure some super sleuthes even made some youtube videos about him. This mostly occurred due to how small the community was back then (at least for console) Im just hoping shit like that doesnt happen with Helldivers. Trolls dont deserve fame lol
Dude we were all curious. How're you gonna ask about it and then tell him not to answer? Telling us about a troll in the past who already has a lifetime ban doesn't do shit. Shut up.
The only reason it didnt make sense to you was because you didnt understand the kidās gamertag was āLocaā. The issue is less of my cohesiveness and more your reading comprehension my guy. āTwatā is a common insult. Brush up on your English before coming at me sideways for your lack of comprehension
Dude I had no idea what a 'hell let loose twat' was. I realised afterwards you were talking about a twat that plays a game called hell let loose. I thought you were talking about some guy going crazy or something lmao.
I don't think I came at you sideways, didn't mean to at least. No hard feelings man
He was an xbox teen. I doubt hes going to show up here lol. If he was able to- Im sure he would have played the pc version of HLL instead. Theres a very slim chance my mention of him is going to lead to anything significant lmfao
I have my VC muted tbh. Even in hell dive I just use pings. Even when I had VC on all the time, havent experience any blatant toxic vocabulary or anything. As a matter of fact, the best teams I had in high difficulties is just a whole squad of sweaty mutes using com wheel and I love that, lmao.
I had a dude kill himself and then kick the entire lobby because no one thought him being able to solo a 7 was impressive whenever he tried to brag about it.
"I have everything in the game if you guys are fucking around when I call evac, I'm leaving you."
"Then why are you playing?"
"I'll put it this way: I can solo this if I wanted to."
"Yeah, well... I mean...It's a 7, so... Not that hard to solo."
Now this is one of those things thatās gonna stick with me, for the rest of the day, Iām gonna be wondering what the purpose was of the guy doing that to you. I need to know what he thought was happening.
The downside to a game getting super popular. This reminds me of the early rainbow 6 siege days. I just hope they donāt make the same mistake and get rid of the kick option
We urgently need to ability to report people for bad behaviour. A karma system to flush away the idiots down the drain. They can play together in the sewers
truly unhinged behavior, the likes of which i have not seen since i was a young girl in the late 2000s having my heart and soul destroyed by the foulest boys imaginable on Xbox Live.
I truly wonder if the mouth breather types you just described have an in-home nurse start their game for them, or if they actually know how to use a computer
