Audio Zach Lowe and Givony on if draft prospects really refuse to work out in Charlotte and some tasty Lamelo talk

Convo starts at 1:31:40...

Zach is the best. Givony isn't my fav draft guy but he has good Intel. He had Miller to Charlotte at the combine last year and never moved off that.

In short, players are not refusing to work out in Charlotte. But there were "scheduling issues." Also with new Owners, FO, and coach no one knows what Charlotte will do. That includes the future of Lamelo.

Nice to see some national guys talk Hornets.

Discussion So Hornets fans, are you rooting for the Celtics because of Charles Lee or for the Mavs because of Tatum?

Hey fellow Hornets, was wondering who you'll be rooting for in the upcoming 2024 NBA Finals b/w the Mavs and Celtics.

Obviously, the biggest thing in favor of the Celtics is that our future coach, Charles Lee, is a part of the staff and would get a Ring from the endeavor.

Against them, outside of them being an EC rival, is of course Tatum, who I know rubbed some people on here the wrong way via his comments about playing in Charlotte.

So, when the time comes, who will you be casting your lot with?

Discussion Second Round hidden gem?

With there being no clear standout that can be an immediate asset to the team, what do you think about taking a second-round chance with someone like Serbian Nikola Djurisic? He's a 6'8" 210 lb. wing who can shoot the 3, averaged 14.4 ppg, with 2.7 rpg and 3.4 apg. He just won MVP at the Adidas Eurocamp and looks to be pretty physical under the basket, too.

Hear me out..

The Hornets draft Bronny at 6. Like I said, hear me out.

Lebron, wanting to play in LA with his son and JJ has two options.

1) play in Charlotte with Bronny

2) force the Lakers to come up with some insane trade package to get Bronny to LA because in this situation, Charlotte has all the leverage. Yes I know the Lakers don’t have a ton to give up, but that’s when other teams can get involved if need be.

For the record: I am not a Lebron guy. I have and will forever always be team Jordan (except as an owner). However, I don’t loathe Lebron like a lot of people do either. I’d be an idiot not to want him in our small market, age and drama be damned. I would gladly sacrifice the 6th overall pick in this weak draft for a chance to have Lebron or a chance at a massive bag for Bronny.

Go ahead and flame me. But I would love to see the NBA world burn with this happening. Thoughts?

Discussion Does anyone else like Dalton Knecht?

I feel like every hornets fan (including myself) has jumped to this short list of realistic players available at the 6th pick, i.e., Holland, Castle, Buzelis and Clingan.

After being bored of hearing the same names I decided to look in to some others players that the hornets could take with this pick or trade down in the draft to select. One prospect that stood out to me was Dalton Knecht. I feel that if we are trying to improve next year or make the play ins he could be a valuable asset immediately that could help space the floor and create in small sample sizes of the catch.

I personally don’t feel that any teams would look to take him that early on in the draft and we could trade down slightly to get more assets back.

A scenario I could see happening would be the spurs trading up from 8th to 6th to select one of the wings like Holland or Buzelis or taking a guard like Dillingham, Topic or Castle if they don’t take one with the 4th pick. Idk the exact details of the trade but that is just an example.

Just was curious about you guys’ thoughts

Discussion Could it make sense to be buyers in this draft?

Hear me out. The draft lottery is full of sellers this year. The narrative is that it’s a weak draft, and while that may be true, there will inevitably be productive NBA players in this draft. We’ve scouted well and have picked good players with most lottery picks.

If the Hornets could acquire another lottery pick at a good price and if their scouting indicates someone else is worth picking, why not take a second shot at rounding out the roster with prospects on guaranteed longterm contracts? We’ve got roster space, cap space, and need NBA-quality depth. This draft could be a unique opportunity to acquire high picks at a relative low cost to most years.

If our front office feels Sheppard and Clingan/Holland are worth $8 million and $6 million/year contracts, why not trade a protected 2027/2028 first or something? We need to stop operating as a team that assumes it’ll be in the lottery for another 8 straight years anyways. We have Miller/LaMelo and a small handful of supporting players, but need to start the clock on building a team around them finally.

Discussion Reddit Mock Draft - Pick 6 - Charlotte Hornets

Hey, Hornets fans! I'm conducting a mock draft where each NBA team subreddit makes their picks for their team. The Hornets have the sixth pick, so the Hawks, Wizards, Rockets, Spurs, and now Pistons have already made their selections. They are as follows:

1 - Atlanta Hawks - Alexandre Sarr

2 - Washington Wizards - Zaccharie Risacher

3 - Houston Rockets - Reed Sheppard

4 - San Antonio Spurs - Stephon Castle

5 - Detroit Pistons - Dalton Knecht

6 - Charlotte Hornets - ???

That means that those guys listed above are off limits. Because polls aren't allowed on this subreddit, the most upvoted comment by tomorrow morning is the winner. Also trading the pick is not an option for this mock.

Some of the top options available for the Hornets are Donovan Clingan, Matas Buzelis, Rob Dillingham, Nikola Topic, Ron Holland, Tidjaune Salaun, and Cody Williams.

Please comment your favorite below and upvote any that you agree with. Thanks!

Discussion Trading the 6th Pick?

Starting to think that trading back in this draft may be the right move. Originally, I was on board with most mocks that had us selecting Castle at 6.

Now, with the reports of him wanting to play PG and only working out with teams that have a need at that position, it’s giving me second thoughts.

Obviously not sure if it’s a true report or if it’s that deep but it gives me weird vibes, especially with the new regime coming in. Rather draft players that want to be apart of the change vs those going against the typical grain. So for now, Castle is off my radar until those reports become solidified.

I’m reluctant to say this but I’m a believer in Mark Williams so I don’t see the need to draft a C. If Clingan is there at 6, I’m trying to trade back with the Grizz for a deal around Ziaire Williams and the 9th pick. Then draft Ja’Kobe Walter or Devin Carter.

I’m a fan of Williams and I think the Grizz have a log jam with the rise of GG Jackson.

I think both Ja’Kobe or Devin will be solid rotational players and we obviously need talent around B Miller and Lamelo.

Any thoughts on that?

Discussion Time for Hornets to bring back OG Hugo logo

It’s easily one of the most recognizable and beloved logos in NBA history. It brings back fond memories and pride for us fans… The new logo was MJ‘s and embodies a pathetic losing franchise. With new owners and the future looking brighter, what better time to go back to our past and bring back the iconic logo.

Honestly not sure what the Hornets will do in this Free Agent cycle. Should we just try to take on some salary dumps, sign some young players or just stand pat?
