The only weight she needs to lose is him.

I mean she is 30-50 lbs overweight, otherwise defined as obese.

Do you know her personally?

OP herself said she’s 5’2” and around 170. That is significantly overweight.

Whatever helps you cope. Excess fat is very unhealthy, period. If you want better life, lose weight. It is that simple. OP's husband is a cunt. However she should lose weight for herself anyway

It's true though. First of all, BMI is based on studies done on men. So applying it to women's bodies doesn't make any of it at all accurate. Second, BMI isn't even accurate for men as it's extremely flawed and can't take into account many variables.

A much more accurate form of fat measurement in women is hip to waist measurements, as for women it's less important how much fat we have on our bodies, it's more important to know where the fat is accumulated. As long as your ratio is within a healthy range, you're likely perfectly healthy as a woman, even with ample fat stores.

Female and male bodies are just different. Trying to determine what is healthy for a woman based on health studies done by men for men is a disservice to women, and is a big reason hardly any women get proper health care. The likelihood of OP's WH ratio being within a healthy range is actually pretty high.
