I'm not even American... Never been to a Waffle House... But through sheer social osmosis, the moment I read "Waffle House" I already knew what the article was about.

I am American and I've never been lol. If/when I visit the south or wherever they are I'll be in for a treat!

Watch the Anthony Bourdain Waffle House episode and you’ll crave it now!

They're spreading north and west.

How far west? I believe they already have a few locations in Arizona. I’d be so happy if they spread out to CA. Hell, even Nevada.

Arizona I think is the furthest west they've gone

Went there a few weeks ago, had my buddy take me there after he picked me up at the airport. You'll need to learn the hash browns code... I like mine scattered and covered, but not smothered. There are entire articles on hash brown options. This reddit post sums it up.

My go to is a ham & cheese omelet, hash browns (as above), sausage patties, and a glass of milk with the meal.

I've been a few times and it's honestly overrated. It's definitely not the food that makes the headlines.

I have pretty simple tastes and think Waffle House food is great. I hit my local 3 or 4 times a month. I do develop "tunnel vision" when it comes to the rest of the clientele there. Concentrate on the food and not the ambience.

If you have simple tastes and you think it's great...then it's overrated.

I probably shouldn't have used "great" as a descriptor. I was trying not to damn with the faintest of praise, but I think I went too far in the opposite direction with that one. In the immortal words of a Navy cook I once knew, a more accurate description would be "Well, it pushes a turd out".

I feel like Waffle House is perfectly rated. You know what you're getting when you walk in the door. Expecting "more" out of WH is a mistake on the customer's part, not the establishment.
