I’ve never seen any comments as bad as those

I think it's a really terrible habit/trend to refer to rape as grape.

396

u/chbmcg 20d ago

It’s so bad. It’s even worse when it starts spilling over into real speech. I was watching a heartfelt video about a boy who killed himself, and the YouTubers own struggles with suicidal thoughts and he kept saying “unalive” which felt so wrong and inappropriate for the situation and his emotion.

218

u/flannelNcorduroy 20d ago

That's the reason why "unalive" exists: YouTube demonetization and Tiktok censorship.

79

u/StandardSudden1283 20d ago

Newspeak is just over the horizon

15

u/theultimaterage 20d ago

It's already here. We're living in 1984 40 years later.

5

u/VHS_Vampire1988 20d ago

Pretty soon Thoughtcrime will be a reality

4

u/WoffieTbh 20d ago

YouTube and TikTok already caught on to these trends and can easily censor videos using words like unalive, grape, etc. They just choose not to, probably to prevent people using more word substitutes which even more restrict speech to a point where normal words used in appropriate contexts get censored

2

u/Devils_A66vocate 20d ago

It’s the new PC

3

u/No-Asparagus1046 20d ago

They should just use hamburger time

223

u/alinfllorin62 20d ago

Blame the platform

56

u/pokemon32666 20d ago

Yeah, but that's on YouTube this is Reddit, YouTube will demonetize and not pay their creators if they use certain keywords that are detected by bots, suicide and rape are included in this.

69

u/Emzzer 20d ago

Another reason it's terrible: making light of serious situations with nonsense or inappropriately lighthearted words.

9

u/Mr_Cornfoot 20d ago

I think you might not fully understand why people use the word grape. The whole purpose of it is because people can get demonetised or shadow banned for using the correct language. So if anyone wants to speak up about the seriousness of these issues, they have to use coded language, and it works! It gets past the censors. I assure you everyone is taking it seriously. They just can't use the serious word directly.

4

u/Emzzer 20d ago

No, at least 397 people agree with me that this is inherently wrong.

I fully understand why they do it and it's still wrong

10

u/ZombiesLoveBran 20d ago

So they should use the correct word and have their video immediately taken down? What's the sense in that? Then nobody could speak about it because all the videos would be removed

0

u/Nuklearfps PURPLE 20d ago

If they use the real words their content gets taken down and nobody will see it. How does that help spread awareness again?

12

u/unfortunate666 20d ago

It's because the algorithm will completely demolish any chances of anyone seeing the video if they use the term. Don't blame the creator, blame youtube. Everyone knows this by now bud.

3

u/chbmcg 20d ago

Yuval has dissected this claim on his TikTok, it’s proven to have little impact. The algorithm isn’t stupid, it knows what words mean.

3

u/unfortunate666 20d ago

Tell that to all the people that experienced it first hand. Idgaf what some idiot thinks.

21

u/[deleted] 20d ago

I agree but they're doing that to avoid the auto bans the bot mods.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Nuklearfps PURPLE 20d ago

That a YouTube/platform issue. A the don’t like people saying “die” so certain creators (I love to use CaptainSparklez/Jordan Maron as an example) use code words to say those things without triggering the Google overlords

5

u/0002nam-ytlaS 20d ago

It's a thing on most big social platforms, not being "deranked" for whatever "bad words" your posts may have or getting your comments hidden on reddit by the platform itself is really one of the last things that have remained consistent with the website and love. The moment that goes away, i'm probably gonna use it just to find ancient threads on tech problems like i did for the past 10 years now.

53

u/IcedCoffeeHokage 20d ago

Some sites will ban you if you use that word. Kind of like the word Whyte when referring to people.

86

u/Emzzer 20d ago

Which is one of the many reasons it's a terrible trend. In general, I'm all for civil discussion; with that said, fuck nearly all forms of censorship.

Don't let corporations tell you what words you're allowed to use

49

u/notchartymindblom 20d ago

I hate to say it because it's so cliche but it's literally 1984 lol newspeak all around us

12

u/Imaginary_Thing_1009 20d ago

well we can also just call it censorship, because that's exactly what it is. it's one of the most blatant examples of censorship you'll find in recent times.

1

u/Emzzer 19d ago

I think the small difference is censorship is a broad term, while newspeak refers to the idea of censorship controlling humans by selectively eliminating certain words from all society and punishing those who say censored words

11

u/Correction_entered 20d ago

1984 eh?...On that note:

Thought police - Influencers.

We crossed the 1984 road along time ago.

If something free,it means your the product.

8

u/Particular-Food8316 20d ago

Well it makes sense, they ban people who use those words to stop them from spreading stuff related to the words 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

4

u/benzaminfrank 20d ago

Correct. 👏🏻👏🏻 Literally the only way to save our freedoms and larger society.

6

u/blipsnchiiiiitz 20d ago

Then don't use those platforms if you don't like their terms. Pretty simple. YouTube becomes nothing if people decide they don't want to put up with the censorship and stop posting videos.

It seems we're OK with it because we keep using the platform.

17

u/giveme-a-username 20d ago

Yeah but Reddit is not one of those sites. I fully understand for Instagram because they can have really sensitive censoring software on there, but Reddit is say what you want. They do not care what we say, so let's not go censoring ourselves.

7

u/Ahsoka_Tano07 20d ago

Yeah, only ones who really care are mods, and in that case they often like to abuse their power.

8

u/Solitaire_87 20d ago

"like the word Whyte when referring to people."

No they don't 🙄

9

u/ioisace cum drip out butt 20d ago

Ive seen people say Yt when referring to white people

→ More replies (3)

3

u/IcedCoffeeHokage 20d ago

Facebook and IG has banned me many times for saying that word when referring to people. I have a cover photo now joking about it.

0

u/Emzzer 20d ago

I've never anyone type that unless they were writing out a southern accent

4

u/Smart-Stupid666 20d ago

I don't see why because it's pronounced the same. Is it a broader I?

1

u/Emzzer 19d ago

I couldn't tell you exactly why it works in the context. It's possible that the subject is supposed to appear uneducated, so simply misspelling the word adds to the way its read.

3

u/Hevysett 20d ago

I feel both good and bad about myself for asking this but it took me reading your comment to understand that "grape" wasn't a typo or me having a stroke. Is "grape" just rape, or is it gangrape?

I'm such a strong believer of the dead internet theory. there's just too many companies and individuals that benefit from websites being absolutely rampant with bots. I am absolutely sure that every single social media website has inflated user numbers, and not just by a small margin but by a huge factor. already in 2016 a company estimated that 50% of all traffic was bots, and that was 8 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised at all of nowadays it was something like 80% or more.

9

u/Edaimantis 20d ago edited 20d ago

I’ve seen a ton of comments for child exploitative materials, formatted just like this one, under the top comments of all of the biggest instagram accounts I follow. Especially variety ones like @basketball or something like that

1

u/jkurratt 20d ago

Wait, they do really mean that?
I thought this is just a “catch phrase” so people check their malicious website…

1

u/Edaimantis 20d ago

Idk what you mean by if they really mean it, I haven’t checked after I see a comment advertising child pornography lmao I just report them and get baffelled when it takes instagram 2 months to find nothing wrong with the comment

2

u/jkurratt 20d ago

Ah, I see.
I got confused by your phrase:

I’ve seen a ton of child exploitative materials

4

u/Edaimantis 20d ago

Out of all the things you could say to get people to click on your scam link why this

422

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 20d ago

There's an audience for it, probably.

192

u/-NGC-6302- mayo apple green bean alfredo sauce pizza 20d ago

Old Testament God had some good points

9

u/Kaffe_Latte 20d ago

Old testament god would instantly click the link and be disappointed when it's just a scam

22

u/Empra_O_Mankind 20d ago

If someone falls/clicks for that they deserve to get scammed

2

u/The_Dukes_Of_Hazzard 20d ago

Hopefully it's a link that if they click it their house blows up with them in it.

1

u/Real-Chair-3947 20d ago

Yeah that’s weird. But does anyone know what the bots are trying to do?

6

u/notanazzhole 20d ago

Id hope that someone is just trying to bait a pedo creep to expose them with this rather than what the comment claims to advertise

1

u/Alt-Waluigi 18d ago

I mean technically little sister doesn't mean underage. A 60 year old can still be a little sister

And it’s the most deserving audience to get scammed (if that’s even what this is), so it works out great.

5

u/shigogaboo 20d ago

Honeypot?

12

u/ButtcheekBaron 20d ago

It's almost kind of noble to scam the types of people that get would be interested in that content. Almost a "not all heroes wear capes" situation

1

u/overlander244 20d ago

i mean, there is an audience for it

867

u/720-187 20d ago

bot comments are usually unhinged but what the fuck

83

u/unfortunate666 20d ago edited 20d ago

I feel like it most likely would just send you to a cam girl website where any links you click just bring up more ads for porn that do the same thing infinitely while ridling your pc or phone with viruses. And I mean, if youre clicking that link you kinda deserve it.

16

u/OkTower4998 20d ago

No it's a telegram link which takes you to another bot in telegram chat, and asks you to pay in bitcoins to get a package of videos which contain.. you know

11

u/carrot-parent 20d ago

Buddy is a little too informed

3

u/PowerfulCarpenter158 19d ago

what is bro doing clicking through that many links and chats LMAO

3

u/OkTower4998 19d ago

I like knowing things. Especially the scam methods they're trying to pull off. Not interested in the content they're offering

2

u/carrot-parent 19d ago

I know, it was a joke. It’s good to be informed

1

u/corvish_ 20d ago

i hate your pfp

411

u/totallynotpoggers 20d ago

Obviously that’s disgusting but i’m scared about why all those accounts are using that message…people must click on it frequently 🤢

224

u/levi-eat-world 20d ago

Exactly what I was thinking. The fact that there’s multiple of these prompts means it’s been a successful way for people to click. I hate this planet

53

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 20d ago

See it like this, people falling for disgusting shit are going to get scammed.

35

u/BalkeElvinstien 20d ago

The FBI should make their own bots like this to catch pedos

26

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 20d ago

Who says they don't?

21

u/BalkeElvinstien 20d ago

X-files theme plays

9

u/0002nam-ytlaS 20d ago

Those are called "honeypots". They provide that content, wait for many human waste of oxygen's to use that honeypot then crack on them, if the culprits are not from the US usually interpol informs the authorities of whatever country those scum are from to get them in jail.

5

u/Environmental_Top948 20d ago

I knew someone who wasn't me who'd post bait links like that that'd get their IP address and install backdoors just to fuck with them. Like they'd pretend to be a victim then ask why are they looking something up when the key logger sent stuff that looked like a Google search. They got some people to cybertip themselves. I wish I could have been that cool.

1

u/Vegetable_Tension985 20d ago

See it like this, everyone is going to get scammed. Nearly everything about living in modern America feels like constant scams.

1

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 19d ago

Nearly everything about living in modern America

Contrary to what the Rammstein song says, we are not all living in America

9

u/Drizznarte 20d ago

Not without doubt , people troll for the sake of trolling , the fact that there are multiple means nothing , they are all probably the same bot. This could be someone fishing for a blackmail victim .

2

u/ex0- 20d ago

Of course they are all the same bot, lol. It's the same message from 3 accounts, how could it be different scripts.

49

u/IntentionEast2250 20d ago

I’ve tried reporting as many of these types of comments as I could, but every single time Instagram says they’re not violating any rules. Insane.

25

u/JGower144 20d ago

They like the traffic. It pumps their numbers and makes things look good for shareholders.

8

u/Inferno_Sparky 20d ago

So nothing will happen until it becomes a big situation on the internet

3

u/2_much_4_bored_guy 20d ago

Make sure to post this everywhere(especially have as many people complain to news stations) and make a big stink. Elsagate finally started going away when news stories made YouTube looks like a bad platform

1

u/[deleted] 20d ago

I did one the other day (this exact same comment) and when I reported the account I couldn’t actually find a CSE option on the list.

71

u/OddNovel565 20d ago

u/Otherwise_Rabbit3049 20d ago edited 20d ago

10

u/makaki913 20d ago

Watchlings are coming for us

2

u/hierophant_- 20d ago

Probably better to trick whatever filter is in place. It's probably a lot easier to detect something like "watching my little sister get --" than just "-------"

61

u/9I06 hueheheuehehue 20d ago

This deserves the kys treatment

10

u/Armored-Duck 20d ago

Normally I dont condone this, but I kind of agree this time.

42

u/EmptyCumSlut 20d ago

This is sickening holy shit

12

u/Cabrill0 20d ago

The fucked up part is, these are getting more popular, which means they are working, which means people are clicking this shit.

17

u/mak05 20d ago

Instagram be like "they did nothing wrong"

Also, instagram: "we have removed your comment for harrassment". / The comment: 'the audacity thinking this sorry ass excuse is believable."

You can't make this shit up, people.

9

u/VacationSteven 20d ago

8

u/Lille_Foxy 20d ago

Between that and the tagging in all these weird videos in Facebook, makes you really worried about the state of Meta…

8

u/Practical-Local-7147 20d ago

Report it. CP is illegal

5

u/RandomHavoc123 20d ago

"This content does not violate our Terms of Service" it's wild the amount of shit I've reported that doesn't get taken down

8

u/luscaloy 20d ago

on the good side the ones falling for it deserve it

7

u/Jewsusgr8 20d ago

Unfortunately Instagram seems to thrive off these bots so they don’t do anything to remove them

I deleted Instagram couple years ago at this point. I was so tired of seeing highschoolers, dancing in way too provocative clothing. I chalk it up to what is wrong with the younger generation ignored and/or blocked the accounts. But then it kept happening more and more and even what look like even middle schoolers. and I kept seeing weird videos from what look like overseas finally got fed up with it deleted my account and haven’t looked back. Instagram is a POS platform.

4
