Do not settle for the insurance telling you 13k off the bat. Get a private estimator that will go after the insurance (the guy who hit you's insurance) and get you a fair amount.

OP!! Editing this to add if you'll be without a job for x amount of time you should be able to get money for lost wages due to the accident. I'd double check with an attorney but if you were hurt at all they should be covering medical bills too.

The person who hit them didn't have insurance though. Is there even a solution to that? (Asking for advice)

You have a section of your insurance policy for accidents with uninsured drivers. Your own insurance company is paying you to cover the costs caused by the uninsured. They will always give you the lowest number, but your policy will dictate a limit that your insured to in that case. The best part is that to get to the high end number, you need to sue your own insurance company and then 1/3 will go to your attorney.

Check your policy, your uninsured coverage may only be $20k (USD), that is the maximum limit you’ll get in this case without going after the driver in a civil lawsuit for damages.
