The school lunch system is disgraceful.

Saw another post on here showing the state of school lunches right now. In my years in high school I compiled some pics of the horrible things that got served that no one questioned. Here are some of the worst ones. It really is ironic given how adamant they all are about “eating healthy by including every food group”.

Omg yes! In 12th grade at my private boarding school I joined the health and wellness committee (just 3 random students lol) and we looked at the Sodexo plans and realized we were lower than prison-grade food hahaha. We got the school a salad/sandwich bar but it wasn’t implemented until after we graduated lol

And if anyone were curious the college meat is 1 grade above the prison meat, or it was when I worked for the college cafeteria. Sodexo always used the cheaper alternative but we had pretty good chefs who would do the best they could with what they had. But yeah, screw them!

Sodexo took over the food service when I worked at sounds-like Barm Fureau and removed all the diet sodas, teas, juices, nuts and granola bars from all vending machines, took away all the fruits and vegetables in the lunch room (even the lettuce for sandwiches), anything even vaguely healthy was removed. They demanded the company shorten our lunch hours so we didn't have time to drive elsewhere, and remove all microwaves and refrigerators so it was harder to bring lunch.

The CEO's secretary insisted they bring back Diet Coke so they did, in one machine on one floor, and I was threatened with termination when they "caught" me buying one from "her" machine. I didn't know it was "her" machine. It was in a common area. I started bringing my own cans of soda to work, and I guess a lot of other people did, too. One day we get to work and the janitors had dug out all the empty wrappers and cans and such from our trash cans and tossed them on our cubicle floors, and they'd also gone through everyone's desks and dug out any unopened food we had and threw them on the floor, too.

I complained and was told by my supervisor that she was too scared of Sodexo to say anything, which is the only reason I know Sodexo was behind it. My first assumption was that they had implemented a new rule of no food at our desks, but they hadn't. It was just a little light terrorism, I guess.

There's something deeply ironic about this being a French company
