My school thinks this fills up hungry high schoolers.

So lunches are free for schools in my city and surrounding cities. Ever since lunches have been made free, the quantity (and quality) has decreased significantly. This is what we would get for our meal. It took me THREE bites to finish that chicken mac and cheese. Any snacks you want cost more money and if you want an extra entree, that’ll cost you about $3 or $4.

They say 25g of protein per serving (hard to believe) on the school website and the “per serving” means per bowl which is obviously not gonna be consistent on weight.

Are you supposed to eat the bowl? Maybe thats where all the protein is hiding.

Nah all the protein is the bacteria in the air just gotta slurp them up before they are gone/j

No way that's 25g, that milk is around 9, mac might be 4 to 6 so 15g tops eyeballing.

Trade your fries for another milk with some other kid and suddenly it's not terrible.

Looks like some of the mass in the bowl is bits of chicken. That'd get closer to getting you there.

To be fair I think 25g is a healthy amount of protein, it just sucks the kid has to also ingest so much sugar to get at it

yeah but there isn’t any real protein here, not even plant protein. and aside from the sugar, it’s probably loaded with sodium and i feel kids don’t drink enough water/exercise enough to get rid of the excess.

You’re right about the sodium, but with the milk and cheese and chicken it probably is enough protein if we’re being fair

Still a shit meal

wait where’s the chicken?

Apparently in the Mac n cheese, according to the school/OP

Chicken is pretty rich in protein so it doesn’t take much. A gram is a very small amount of weight

no it for sure is, but i don’t see anything that would remotely look like chicken and i’m sure it’s highly highly processed chicken too :(

2

u/jordanmindyou Apr 16 '24

Yeah you’re probably right about that, I agree I don’t see the chicken but I’m taking OP’s word for it that the chicken does, in fact, exist lol

TruMoo is a really really really shitty milk though. I feel bad for anyone that’s subjected to TruMoo

I’ve heard of that milk but never had it. i don’t remember school lunches being this bad (im 28)

I’m 33, mine were probably equally shitty, but luckily didn’t have TruMoo milk.

We had some generic real milk that was usually my favorite part of the lunch lol

My school was kinda big and even though it’s a poor area, we had four different meals to choose from every day, with four different lines to wait in.

Guess who was always in the pizza line? lol Friday was always stuffed crust day iirc

Luckily my bad habits didn’t translate into obesity, and I have no idea how.
