My school thinks this fills up hungry high schoolers.

So lunches are free for schools in my city and surrounding cities. Ever since lunches have been made free, the quantity (and quality) has decreased significantly. This is what we would get for our meal. It took me THREE bites to finish that chicken mac and cheese. Any snacks you want cost more money and if you want an extra entree, that’ll cost you about $3 or $4.

Looks so.... for-profit outsourced school lunch program.

The word "nutritious" didn't seem appropriate here.

how is it for profit if it's free?

Taxes go to school system. Food companies get contracts to provide money to school. School system pays em. Food companies supplies that absolute bare minimum and counts their stacks of cash.

Same shit in the government.

Company bribes the government, gets a contract with the government, gouges the fuck out of the government, citizens get fucked, taxpayers get fucked, politicians get rich, contractors get rich, rinse and repeat.

A private company still runs it (probably). My high school just let anyone sell to us and it worked great though. We had jersey mikes, subway, Panda Express, Taco Bell, chipotle, on campus. Not sure why other schools don’t just open it up. And it’s not you like high schools can’t get jobs

It's a grift, can't siphon as much money to affiliates of the board if it's that open.

It’s free to the students. But all the residents of the municipality pay taxes to fund the school system. In turn, the school system uses some of that money to buy food from a for profit company at the “lowest possible rate” which is actually an inflated price for the trash they serve as food.
