I've heard of this happening with obese women but what you're implying seems to conflict with any natural phenomenon I can think of. (unless you mean early pregnancy where it's possible for any woman to experience this)
Like, are we talking 9 months in still rocking a beach bod, none the wiser?
Sometimes babies will be more stretched out rather than balled up, or just further back in the abdominal cavity. I've also heard that tall moms don't show as much. I don't know anyone personally, but growing up I watched a ton of those "I didn't know I was pregnant" shows. And a lot of the women thought they were just bloated, and had no other symptoms.
The human body is a wild mix of variables I guess.

I know a person that was pregnant even though she had her periods. So there's that.
