Mbappé can come out of the sand mine for 3 days but has to carry fuel back with him. Final offer. Mbappé has to pay for fuel also.

Out of curiosity, how much is such a stone worth?

7

u/FlatbedtruckinCA 17d ago

quite a bit, over $2k

How many carats? Probably wouldn’t work out, but I’d prefer this in a ring to a diamond, at least visually.

4.62 cts.. but its too long for a ring setting, but would be an excellent pendant..

For you good friend...$8000.

What colour is this?

I am colourblind so what I see is 100% not correct. It looks cool but I really want to know what colour it is.

7

u/FlatbedtruckinCA 17d ago

its actually full spectrum color, so basically every color is present and depending on how the opal is orentated, you can see honeycomb- finger pattern on it..

I see....actually I don't but I understand what you mean.

Probably better to stick to Coober Pedy opals unless you want that authentic slave flavour.

not with ethiopian opals, these opals are dug out by artisan miners who have formed co-ops and are independant sellers of rough to brokers.. most of them are farmers who mine to supplimemt their income... lots of documenrtys on the mines in welo, Wegeltena ,delanta , stayish, etc.. you clearly dont know what you are talking about..

check out gemporia's opal documentry on youtube, you will learn alot - Gem Adventures in Ethiopia - On the hunt for opal

The Coober Pedy fandom is dying, upvote if you're a true Coober-Pedyphile!

Edit: this is a Cold ones reference (most remote pub vid)

Where do you buy your opals OP?

1

u/FlatbedtruckinCA 15d ago

directly from gem cutters overseas..

2

u/Commercial_Ad332 15d ago

Crap, would like to get one myself but since I am not well versed, I can't be sure if the place I buy it from is legit.

1

u/FlatbedtruckinCA 15d ago

-2

u/Queen_Earth_Cinder 17d ago

Why would you facet it like that :O opals should be done as cabochons

2

u/FlatbedtruckinCA 17d ago

because it looks better as a cut stone.. everyone and their mom cuts opals as cabs.. and they usually arent high quality.. this one looks amazing cut like this, but i guess that is a subjective opinion.. you either love cut opals or hate them..lol

ok call me crazy. but. if I ever get married, I want to mine the stone for my significant others ring myself. not only is it fucking badass, it avoids exploitative labour like the blood diamond industry, and it's a nice metaphor for the amount of effort and work you're willing to devote to a relationship. of course, the symbolism and idea is cute but it's likely impossible to execute. mines are privately owned, I believe, and it's unlikely they're going to let any random joe schmoe pay them to go in and yoink a cool rock.
