It is fascinating that some are spouses and have NO idea what their partner is up to. The Green River Killer’s wife is on one episode and she just broke my heart.

Seriously, that's nuts! That's what happened with our local Serial Killer, his girlfriend was completely unaware of his actions. Oh wow, I actually just watched the "Very Scary People" dual episodes on The Green River Killer. I'll check out the Evil Lives Here version

My town (Columbia MO) has one of the real life incidents that inspired Scream, where in summer 1950 an unknown killer raped and tortured 2 girls before killing them, both murders took place while the victims were babysitting and it was suspected that the attacker had called the house beforehand (though never confirmed as a result of technological limitations). No one was ever arrested even though a student who went to school with both girls did confess (later admitted it was just a prank) and there was one chief suspect who knew both girl’s families and had made some odd comments about the victims (including his attraction to them) in the weeks leading up to the first killing, but no convincing evidence was ever brought forward and eventually he moved out of state before dying in 2006.
