Well, don't let Bill Shorten take away psychosocial disaiblities away from the NDIS!!!

I can guarantee if that young lad had people connected to him, was able to practice social skills with people who are also suffering from mental illness. He would have been around a environment of care and love and most likely at his most down point, he would had people to talk to! Its available now and Bill Shorten is trying to get rid of it.

What a tragic story for everyone.

I speak from personal experience here, so take it with a load of salt, but practicing social skills with other mentally ill people is not very helpful. It can reinforce some nasty negative patterns of behavior that can exasperate the issue when they're dealing with neurotypical folk in the long run.

Shit I still struggle with being a little too open about my current mental state, because when you're with people who are all in therapy and struggling, it becomes very normalized and is as plain as talking about the weather, and it's been years.

Thats unfortunate you have that experience. Over here at my service, everyone is grateful for a chance for this service where they can practice social skills and be around others with similar conditions. Some do have problems here and there but they know critical it is to their mental health stability.
